Not a typical barbera, over-ripe, almost pungent. (799 views) | | Tasted by Hortonbill on 9/11/2016 & rated 80 points: Overly fruity, lacking complexity. (756 views) | | Tasted by quaffnov on 6/20/2015 & rated 87 points: Short decant time, the nose has a strong cherry element as does the palate with acidity that is on the tart side. This is food fare, as a stand alone it does not have enough character. (1088 views) | | Tasted by CieloVista on 1/4/2015 & rated 85 points: Interesting....red fruit aromas and flavors in between a Gamay and Pinot Noir. (1140 views) | | Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 10/8/2014: Dark fruited and some raisins, and then some wild Italianess on the palate. (1414 views) | | Tasted by CieloVista on 7/24/2014 & rated 85 points: ....similar tasting as last but paired it with lighter fare. (751 views) | | Tasted by CieloVista on 5/31/2014 & rated 83 points: Ruby red with red fruit aromas. Light bodied and had red fruit flavors. Short Medium dry finish. (734 views) |
| Vigneti Massa Producer WebsiteVigneti Massa Barbera Colli Tortonesi Fuso Importer tech sheetBarbera Varietal character (Appellation America) Varietal character (Wikipedia German) Varietal character (Wikipedia English) Barbera is a red wine variety, originally from Italy, which is best known as the second-most important Piedmontese variety after Nebbiolo. The wines made of this grape are mainly the everyday drinking wines of the region. The main appellations producing Barbera are Asti and Alba.
Barbera - The most widely grown red wine grape of Piedmont and Southern Lombardy, most famously around the towns of Asti and Alba, and Pavia. The wines of Barbera were once simply "what you drank while waiting for the Barolo to be ready." With a new generation of wine makers, this is no longer the case. The wines are now meticulously vinified, aged Barbera gets the name "Barbera Superiore" (Superior Barbera), sometimes aged in French barrique becoming "Barbera Barricato", and intended for the international market. The wine has bright cherry fruit, a very dark color, and a food-friendly acidity.Italy Italian Wines (ItalianMade.com, The Italian Trade Commission) | Italian Wine Guide on the WineDoctorPiedmont Vignaioli Piemontesi (Italian only) On weinlagen-info |
