Community Tasting Notes (average 94.4 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 18 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Burgundy Al on 12/3/2022 & rated 94 points: Seventeenth Annual White Truffle Dinner (Hughes House - Chicago IL): In 2011-2013 vertical, alongside the Ramonet 2013 Bâtard-Montrachet. Rich, layered and complex with something sweet and lots savory. This kept getting better in glass, and is likely to still have upside. (1881 views)
Tasted by clayfu on 11/3/2021: is an absolute powerhouse of a wine and a top notch wine for not just 2013 but in general. The wine is OOOOOOOOOOOOZING with ripe and concentrated baskets of peach and pear. It's sweet but well spiced. The wine just stretches and fills every angle. It's matched with Pikachu levels of electric acidity that just makes the wine so vibrant. So good. I might say right now it's better than the 2013 Chevalier Montrachet (1621 views)
Tasted by mye on 8/16/2021: Initially quite a bit of reduction but that subsides with air. Wow crazy fruit density with notes of peach, pear. Hint of honey on the palate balanced with brilliant and bright acidity. What a wine. wow. (1311 views)
Tasted by Satoshi Nakamoto on 8/15/2021 & rated 97 points: Big Burg Energy: Waxy, unctuous, rich, persistent. Lovely balance, never cloying or too over the top. Only improved with more air. This wine is insane. Such a wide difference than any Moreau I've ever had. Coat my tongue with this lovely elixir again, baby. (1541 views)
Tasted by rlove on 7/31/2021 & rated 93 points: Bernard Moreau's 2013 Bâtard-Montrachet is even richer and more concentrated than the Chevy, which is saying something, with ripe apple, pear, and significant spice. Big boned. Spiced apple on the palate, gaining a slight tropical bent with air. Drink now through 2030.

I find the Chevalier a more complete wine but I can see someone who likes blockbuster wines preferring the Bâtard. (1378 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 10/10/2020 & rated 95 points: The Last Dance Magnum Dinner (The Krengels - Bannockburn IL): Magnum. An intense old vine concentration with lots of apple and pear that finish with some poached pear notes that provide both sweet and savory character. Rich and dense throughout, yet simultaneously so well balanced. Best white wine of the night. (2403 views)
Tasted by Jammy Wine on 5/14/2020 & rated 91 points: The 2013 Bernard Moreau is drinking really well today. Tasted blind - Mild reduction with fresh profile of intense white fruits and waxy texture. Bright white flowers and buttery toast on the palate. Broad shouldered with Grand Cru intensity. Pretty delicious and full bodied with more to develop. Meursault Perrieres? PYCM? 2011? (91/100) (1339 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/9/2019 & rated 94 points: La Paulée de New York Gala Dinner (Pier Sixty - New York NY): Complex and rich orchard fruit with so much concentration (clearly old vine) and balance. Certainly better than the Chevalier-Montrachet served alongside, and Alex agreed. (1850 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 2/3/2019 & rated 96 points: Super Bowl 2019 (Alpharetta, GA): My wine; deeper golden hued yellow; yogurt, oak, luxurious, nutty, sugar cookies, egg yolk, lemon curd, mineral in back, herbs, super complex nose; rich and unctuous on the palate, driven, apple, pineapple, lemon, lemongrass, beeswax, intense, palpable mineral, honey and vanilla, lemons, juicy pineapple; awesome stuff! agree that this could use a couple more years but don't feel it needs 10, already showing so much complexity and character. (1365 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 8/13/2018 & rated 94 points: Dinner and Then Lunch with Friends; 8/13/2018-8/14/2018 (Marino - Hollywood CA): Incredibly rich orchard fruit everywhere, ripe and fleshy with so much forward fruit without the baby fat too commonly associated with youngish Batard. Mineral character to start seemed at least as much like Chevalier-Montrachet as Batard. I liked this best after open 30-45 minutes, finding it slightly too fleshy and less minerally an hour+ later. (1682 views)
Tasted by ESTEELE90 on 8/13/2018: At dinner. Brief note. Pours a medium straw yellow in the glass. Nose and palate show more cut and mineral than I was expecting for this with meyer lemon, citron, golden apples, vanilla creme, baking spice and a generous amount of fine creamy minerals. Midpalate had good texture and on point acid to give this good focus and drive. Medium finish is moderately complex but this still needs a small amount of time to really shine.

After having the Le Clos from this producer and now this I am not convinced this domaine is making great wines or wines that have good typicity. That is not to say the wines aren't good, they are, but they just don't have that extra something that puts them up there with other great producers. Your mileage may vary. (1309 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 7/14/2018 & rated 95 points: Chicago Bastille Day Dinner with Lots of Wagyu (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): Intensely rich start with rich orchard fruit on nose and palate, more sweet vs savory spice, plus some peach hints as well. Very good+ density with so much spice at every level. Very long finish. Possibly some upside, but so great now. First time re-tasting since 2015 at Moreau. (1774 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 7/14/2018 & rated 96 points: The nose is profoundly aromatic with an incredible sweet pear and mineral perfume with mineral. So much richness and crystalline depth on the palate. For all the richness this lively, bright and long. A wow wine. (1092 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 6/15/2018: Paul & Keith’s Old World v New World Chardonnay Challenge (La Trompette, London): Blind. Guessed NW. very tropical, floral nose. Very ripe and rounded. Some weight on the finish. ***1/2 (1226 views)
Tasted by chatters on 1/14/2017: 2013 Grand Cru Horizontal tasting (Prince Wine Store, Bank Street, Melbourne): Wild ferment over floral notes, cool wet stone, toast, spice, cream and vanilla. More fruity and spicy on the palate. Difficult to spit. Generous, long, still a bit disjointed; needs time but very good. Some front of mouth grip. Quite tangy. Long. Lovely. (1933 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 7/3/2015: Domaine Bernard Moreau Cellar Visit and Tasting (Chassagne-Montrachet): Tasted at the domaine. Gets off to a rollicking, voluptuous start with huge fruit and spice. More structure and energy coming through middle to finish. A classic Batard. (2206 views)
Tasted by vespasian on 11/3/2014 & rated 93 points: As you'd expect very tightly wound on the nose; already quite complex, rich and powerful though accessible. Great material here. Dense, compact, weighty. Very fine potential. 92-95+ (1658 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 5/12/2014: Tasting (Mostly) 2012 and 2013 at Domaine Bernard Moreau (Chassagne-Montrachet): Barrel tasting at domaine. ML complete. Large scaled fruit with very good concentration, followed with good structure and lots of tension and uncoiled energy. My limited experience tasting Grand Cru from barrel makes it tough to fairly assess, but this comes across less like "typical" Batard, which I associate with lush wines. But absolutely beautiful wine and I think terroir has its way to evolve in wines made this well. Even better news...more wine this year...three barrels, which is a miracle (not of nature) in 2013. Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
