| Community Tasting Notes (average 92.2 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 51 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by buckeye76 on 10/29/2022 & rated 92 points: Citrus and nuts, with hints of mint and floral in the nose. Tropical fruits, apple, and hints of spice in the flavor. Medium bodied, nice acidity, well balanced and a medium to long finish (686 views) | | Tasted by stoneb on 4/30/2022 flawed bottle: Color looked good on opening, but it darkened quickly. Oxidized. Kistler's 2012 chardonnays were wonderful for 7-8 years, but they are fading fast now. (932 views) | | Tasted by stoneb on 10/30/2021 & rated 89 points: Golden straw color. Opened with an oxidative note that diminished but was present throughout the evening. Pear and vanilla with a bit of pineapple; starting to fade in this bottle. Not a great example of a consistently excellent producer and vineyard. Hopefully just this bottle, but probably time to drink up. (1227 views) | | Tasted by RJWallis on 7/8/2021 & rated 93 points: Was a bit worried we may have waited too long to open but were very pleasantly surprised. Rich and lingering, balanced and elegant, in a great place. Paired perfectly with seafood paella. (1358 views) | | Tasted by mclanew on 5/28/2021 & rated 94 points: Terrific rendition of this wine. Again a more restrained style of Kistler chards then years past. Peach, apple, minerals and cream. Very elegant, caressing, reasonably light of its feet, with excellent concentration and no sign of going over the hill. (1405 views) | | Tasted by hsacks on 5/23/2021 & rated 92 points: This bottle was darker in color and more advanced than the 3/3/20 bottle but almost fully intact and delicious. (981 views) | | Tasted by jsebiri on 6/13/2020: This wine was a bit uneasy for my crowd, was overly sour, lacked discernable fruit tastes, the nose was nice enough, that said it was easily picked out as a high-end bottle of wine, just in a weird place or maybe just flawed. No real secondary things going on, just not a typical Kistler chardonnay experience. (1245 views) | | Tasted by Kansas1955 on 6/9/2020 & rated 91 points: Great color, very soft aroma, some mineral after taste. Just very enjoyable. Better as it sits in the glass for awhile. (981 views) | | Tasted by bonedoc on 5/16/2020: Signs of Premature oxidation, but drInkable ...butterscotch, apple, honey. (1013 views) | | Tasted by hsacks on 3/3/2020 & rated 93 points: Light yellow color. Aromas of white peaches, minerals, honeysuckle and wood spices. Ripe but well-balanced fruit in the mouth with excellent depth and length. Nicely structured and integrated on the palate. A classy, delicious Chardonnay in the middle of its drinking sweet spot. (1041 views) | | Tasted by Winiac on 9/25/2019 & rated 91 points: Weighty, round and spicy with noticeable oak. Slightly hot. High delicious factor. (1241 views) | | Tasted by mike l. on 3/11/2018 & rated 83 points: way too sweet fake buttered oak for me especially on pop and pour. this faded a bit and acid popped a bit more after half hour or so but still just candied and fake tasting to my palate. used to love this stuff! (2106 views) | | Tasted by Pquaker on 12/25/2017 & rated 92 points: Drinking well now. Nice foggy yellow low acidity high malolactic, traditional Kistler playbook. Long lasting taste. (1840 views) | | Tasted by RJWallis on 12/16/2017 & rated 92 points: Liked this a lot. On PnP, not much there, everything was muted. But after 30 minutes or so, richness, nice subtle fruit and acid. A wine that makes you stop and notice the subtly. (1877 views) | | Tasted by winelover1808 on 11/26/2017 & rated 92 points: excellent. the hyde kistlers are always a treat (1858 views) | | Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 11/7/2017 & rated 90 points: I would have certainly liked this more 2-3 years ago, this was medium golden in color, had clearly advance and was a bit round / caramel for my tastes... of course it was the first bottle drained by our party goers, so liked by them for sure (1851 views) | | Tasted by Pquaker on 10/22/2017 & rated 93 points: Cloudy, subdued aroma, pale straw color, long follow through. (1220 views) | | Tasted by tomherer on 10/5/2017 & rated 93 points: Wow this is classy. Has a tropical personality, with a friendly thrust of pineapple and banana, rounded out with a chorus of Meyer lemon, tangerine, river stone, chive, and nutmeg-flecked oak. The finish is long, airy, and delicious. 93+. (1183 views) | | Tasted by winelover1808 on 9/30/2017 & rated 94 points: loved this. 5 years old but drinking so well right now. meusault like to me - lush fruit, some minerality, solid acidity, salinity. great finish and color. this is delicious! (1168 views) | | Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 9/20/2017 & rated 90 points: this was too tropical in nature for me, but my wife liked it a lot, could the darker color and richer palate meant some premox? I don't think so but I am drinking most of my 2012's now anyway -- appears Kistler made this vintage less bright and tight than previous vintages... feels more like 2013 white burg rather than 2011 or 2014 (1153 views) | | Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 8/25/2017: no notes and had among 8 folks and at a big table with many wines, therefore NR, this was a nice bottles as best as I remember, and certainly didn't have premature oxidation as some of my Kistler '12's have -- thanks goodness (1110 views) | | Tasted by BuzzzzOff on 4/8/2017 & rated 94 points: Awesome Hong Kong Rugby 7s' starter!!! (1641 views) | | Tasted by sfqwino on 2/4/2017 & rated 92 points: Drinking much better than a year ago. (1562 views) | | Tasted by Racer117 on 12/31/2016 & rated 93 points: Exotic and excellent. Makes me think Burgundian turned up to 11. Oaky sweetness with tangerine, minerality, hay. Courtesy of UCLAdave. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa / SonomaSONOMA: The Yorkville Highlands AVA, approved in 1998, is located in the southwestern corner of Mendocino County, between Sonoma County's Alexander Valley to the South and Mendocino County!s Anderson Valley to the North. The region is 25 miles long, roughly in the shape of rectangle and bisected by Highway 128 which runs the length of the AVA. The region!s terrain is hilly and forested, with elevations ranging from 1,078 to 2,442 feet above sea level. The distinguishing features of the Yorkville Highlands AVA are rocky soils with a high gravel content and the climate, which is cooler than Alexander Valley but warmer than Anderson Valley, and significantly cooler at night than the surrounding areas.CarnerosStraddles the southern ends of Napa & Sonoma Counties. |
