Tasted by ASMB on 10/7/2023 & rated 90 points: Don’t think I’ve ever been let down harder. Expected so much from such a highly regarded wine. It was fine. Alcohol was hot. Felt pretty plain and 2 dimensional. As a value, I’ve never had worse. (615 views)
Tasted by @robin on 4/30/2023 & rated 95 points: (2011) Deep garnet in colour. Excellent nose. Baby of the night, with so much potential in the bottle.
Warm vintage for sure, ripe red fruits. Extremely balanced wine with a long finish.
Looking forward to tasting it in the next few years. (932 views)
Tasted by rikipedia on 9/19/2022 & rated 95 points: Coats Family Cellar Tasting (Wine Cellar): Merlot from 7 hectares; Deep garnet, the bouquet is intense and complex with plenty of red fruit, spices, forest fruits, wet earth, dark chocolate and vanilla.
A soft, richly textured entry with so much depth and focus here. Fantastic development, this full-bodied wine is fine-grained, finessed and yet elegant with lively acidity. The flavours weave around the palate with dark 70% chocolate, vanilla extract, cinnamon, cardamom, black cherry and a hint of cigar. A persistent length and penetration of layers of complexity, the finish is supple with sweet cocoa powder tannins. (1400 views)
Tasted by Panta rei C2H5OH on 8/5/2021 & rated 93 points: Pronounced nose of black currant and black cherries. Still firm tannins, with same fruits on the palate. Later some vanilla.
Will develop for many years in the bottle and reach new highs. (2561 views)
Tasted by camachodavalos on 3/22/2019 & rated 98 points: Spectacular. Still many years to come (4618 views)
Tasted by dvansteenderen on 5/15/2018 & rated 96 points: Tasted alongside the 1997 Masseto, 2006 Masseto and 2015 Masseto. The 2011 is very impressive for the vintage! Beautiful wine... (4541 views)
(5631 views)
Tasted by Pacalet on 11/14/2017 & rated 90 points: A soft and easy going red, not a great vintage so the structure is soft and approachable. At the current moment there is too much vanilla oak. (5245 views)
Tasted by zaza10 on 5/1/2017: I feel a lot or fruit wildberry , raspberry cherry still a bit too much tanins but Very concentrated wine komplex as much as it can ! Just amazing (5071 views)
Tasted by DrZett on 11/6/2016 & rated 95 points: What to drink before we die... (Restaurant Prinzinger, Düsseldorf (Germany)): I don't like this wine - I LOVE IT! One of the best wines a had in the last few years. It is fat and bold but without being jammy or something like that. I love drinking young wines but i'm sure that it will get much better in the close future - try again in 5 years. Just superb! (4753 views)
Tasted by oxwombat on 7/29/2016 & rated 95 points: Opened at the Jackson Room at the Hong Kong Club. Decanted.

This was a fantastic wine, and I really enjoyed this over dinner with an old friend. Powerful nose with bursts of red and black fruit with a lot of backbone and structure - but well integrated and in a good phase even if this was early in its life. (549 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 10/8/2015 & rated 94 points: Merlots (mostly), Masseto, Kapcsandy, ++ (Cleveland Heights): Quite the treat. Never had a Masseto and then two in one night. This was splash decanted and obviously needs a long time until maturity. Most of us thought this would eventually be better than the 99, but not on this night. Purple in color. The nose has dark cherries, minerals, coffee grounds and spice. On the palate, there is a wall of tannins. At the same time, it is delicious right now. Bold black raspberry and dark cherry flavors. Deep. Juicy acidity. Long finish. I know 2011 is supposed to be a great vintage in Tuscany, but this is a pretty special wine. (6509 views)
Tasted by Yagil on 11/7/2014 & rated 93 points: Tenuta dell'Ornellaia visit (Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, Bolgheri): dark transparent red-purple, rich fruity earhty aromas & flavours, rich, powerful, full bodied, firm tannins, well balanced, complexity, tight, very young, high future potential, tannic present finish. (6765 views)
Tasted by Camacho on 11/5/2014 & rated 93 points: Supper tight. Sweet tannin's on the nose, smells are warm and inviting. Cocoa, notes of espresso, plum and blackberries. Twirling the glass brought out some coffee and herbs. Warm mouth feel with tangy acidity that meshes well with the fruit. Spicy finish a bit hot. (4472 views)
Tasted by cephomer on 11/5/2014 & rated 93 points: Drank at Masseto tasting, along with 2005 & 2006 at Christies in NYC with importer and wine maker. Lots of fruit on the nose, oak & perhaps some cedar. Dark color, medium to full-bodied, very tannic as expected. Dark fruits, extracted, good complexity, big and sexy. Obviously the wine's quite young but it should be a great wine in the future. Reflective of great vintage in Bolgheri (5197 views)

Merlot

Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.
