Tasted by pmilne on 8/21/2009 & rated 84 points: Bottle lost at back of fridge - way past its prime. Some nice apple, grapefruit, lemon on the nose - but mostly faded and overtaken by the oak. Taste was same fruit flavors, but weak. (1825 views)
Tasted by duckyfufu on 1/19/2008 & rated 89 points: Nose of vanilla, honey, and oak. Rich flavors of roast pear and apple with toasted oak. Very luscious, long finish. Great! (1890 views)
Tasted by macfan on 12/8/2007: Forgettable -CM (2141 views)
Tasted by yowens44 on 11/6/2007 & rated 93 points: Wow- really liked this one. Citrus, vergetal, sugary peach on the nose, some wood, grapefruit, med bodied, nice sour finish. (2029 views)
Tasted by DRoberts on 8/12/2007 & rated 82 points: Enjoyed, but wish there was more to it. (2184 views)
Tasted by yowens44 on 7/25/2007 & rated 87 points: Paired the wine poorly and didnt really get a great taste of it. Signifiant amount of vanilla and oak, light and crisp, alot of citrus. (1171 views)
Tasted by yowens44 on 6/21/2007 & rated 86 points: alcholic nose, some pear. Acidic midpalate w pear. Still no bringin what I tasted at the winery. (1221 views)
Tasted by jjclips2 on 4/19/2007 & rated 86 points: Lightly golden in colour. Huge buttery, oaky, vanilla studded spices on the nose with a hint of d'anjou pear. The body is medium and displays a rich mouthfeel with oak and vanilla dominating. Surprisingly finishes with a nice burst of acidity with lemon curd and fresh cream. I don't particularly care for this, however it is well made. (1271 views)
Tasted by sunalsorises on 2/4/2007 & rated 87 points: Solid SB. I wished it was cheaper. (1456 views)
Tasted by JonnyB on 7/8/2006 & rated 88 points: Very good, taste of grapefruit and melon, some minerality, nice thick texture. Will buy again. (1550 views)
Tasted by hutch on 6/29/2006: Something funky on the nose. I guess it's the wood. Where's the fruit? I just don't like this. However, the tasters were divided. Some really enjoyed it, and a couple others along with me didn't see the interest. I did see that someone (Wine Enthusiast?) ave this wine a big score, though. (1529 views)

Varietal Character

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
