Tasted by Janstan on 8/23/2019 & rated 88 points: Soft oak, dark fruit (882 views)
Tasted by texaswinelover on 12/26/2017: Mid body, restrained and although developed cassis notes, just not wowed. Certainly showed better with air and honestly for $25 was a very good buy for Cabernet. (1876 views)
Tasted by rickspicks on 10/28/2016 & rated 91 points: Have gone thru 2 cases of this wine, and every bottle has been very good. Rich, ripe, dark berry fruits with nice depth and concentration, a firm structure, lush texture and an enjoyable fruity, persistent finish. One of few inexpensive cabernet wines that is not syrupy or cloying. Drinks way, way above its price point. (3217 views)
Tasted by rickspicks on 6/6/2016 & rated 91 points: Another terrific bottle ... just like all the others. Ripe, rich dark fruit with plenty of cassis and nice depth, both lush and structured, slightly rough texture, medium to full bodied, good finish. 91+ (3657 views)
Tasted by theplatz on 4/24/2016 & rated 80 points: Wine was really disappointing with strong eucalyptus flavors I find very offputting. Expected a lot more given all the writeup about the high quality sources of fruit. (3516 views)
Tasted by rickspicks on 4/16/2016 & rated 92 points: I probably should be used to it by now, but I continue to be blown away by the great flavors, texture and structure of this wine. I keep waiting for a bad bottle, but instead, this was the best bottle yet. Dark fruits including blackberry, boysenberry and cassis along with cocoa and dust. Medium-to-full body, slightly chewy texture, a big, firm, acidic structure that is a great complement to all the fruit and a long and enjoyably acidic finish. Not even a hint of syrup or cloying textures that are so common with lower cost wines. 92+ (3330 views)
Tasted by rickspicks on 4/4/2016 & rated 91 points: Another beauty - big, fruity, lush and structured. Dark berry with spice and oak, medium-to-full bodied with good concentration and depth, and a long, fruity finish that ends with a bit of bitterness. Has some rough edges and a chewy texture that gives it a rustic character that I liked. (2759 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 2/22/2016 & rated 90 points: Not decanted but given 45 min. of air. Deep, dark reddish-purple in the glass. The nose is a little reticent but the palate is definitely open for business. Richly fruited without being overtly sweet, unlike many wines in this price range. The nose takes on a slightly medicinal quality with additional air, which I don't love, but the palate is surprisingly complex and really very nice. Actually tastes like Napa cab. This really delivers for $22 locally and is a definite repeat buy. (1902 views)
Tasted by rickspicks on 2/21/2016 & rated 91 points: Another really nice bottle that drinks way better than its pedigree. Big flavors of mostly ripe, rich, dark berry fruits including blackberry and cassis, along with aggressive acidity and firm tannins. This is not subtle or elegant, but rather an "in-your-face", bruiser of a wine with sharp edges and a rough texture. Long, fruity and rustic finish. One of the few < $20 Cabs that is rich, ripe and deep, but not flabby or cloying. (1418 views)
Tasted by rickspicks on 1/28/2016 & rated 91 points: No notes, PnP. Big, palate-pleasing cassis and blackberry along with some unusual, but enjoyable bitterness - like the bitterness in unsweetened chocolate - and oak. Medium body, firm structure, excellent balance and a terrific, rich, firm texture. Very enjoyable - drinks way, way above its price point. 91+ (1517 views)
Tasted by Pluckemin Inn on 1/16/2016 & rated 91 points: "Simply a beautiful expression of pure Napa Cab, with layers of dark concentrated plush fruit - blackcurrant and plum - with hints of cedar, spice and vanilla and an amazing texture and depth of flavor that lingers long into the finish. Whether your relatives have cleaned out your stock of wine over the holidays or you are just looking for a super value in Napa Cab to drink over the next couple of years, this is a great opportunity to stock up. A beautiful Napa Cabernet that drinks light years beyond its humble price tag." ......Pluckemin Inn Cellar Note (2261 views)
Tasted by BadOyster on 10/21/2015 & rated 91 points: Beautiful cab for the price. (2172 views)
Tasted by texaswinelover on 7/20/2015: Wow. Completely different experience this time. Initially Very reticent nose. Needed 45-60 min decanting to open. Mouthfeel delicious. Luscious but not velvety, very unique bitter chocolate notes. Nicely balanced. Tannins fine. Lingering finish. Touch bitter but overall Very nicely done this time. Drank while preparing dinner. Next time, I won't bother drinking until its had an hour in the decanter. (2152 views)
Tasted by texaswinelover on 1/7/2015: My first time to try Hardin. Surprised not sure why that the wine was a big as it was. Big voluptuous wine. Nicely balanced with a tiny hint of heat. Classically Made with cassis, currants and oaky notes. Not overwhelming oak but well balanced. I'm curious to see how this will age but I expect it to improve. Very nice qpr. (2651 views)
Tasted by BadOyster on 12/28/2014 & rated 91 points: Definitely our new go-to cab, riding the line of luscious fruit with enough tannin and acid to keep it interesting. (2344 views)
Tasted by Zumboto on 11/17/2014 & rated 91 points: Consistent with first bottle I drank and very pleased with the quality to price ratio. (2549 views)
Tasted by BadOyster on 10/24/2014 & rated 91 points: A nicely done california cab, with good balance of fruit and grip/acidity. Might be my "go to" cab for the year if Broadside doesn't step up its game. (2123 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
