Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.9 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 67 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Cirix on 8/15/2023 & rated 91 points: 91 pt, bere ora. (382 views)
Tasted by ftorrisi on 9/23/2022 flawed bottle: Vertical degustation of Barrua with Friends. Lineup: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015. Results: 2012 first ranked, 2010 second, 2015 third. 2011 was unfortunately corked.

2015, a very good wine by any token and also the one that all tried as first, some thought it was too young, some thought it had less french grapes in the mix (that at least on the official web site is not disclosed). The only one where I could taste myrtle. 91 pts.

2010, Superior to the 2015, more round, probably due to the age. It started showing signs of having reached its peak, still I would not hurry if I still had in store. I liked the well matured tannins. 93 pts.

2012, By far the be best of the lot. I still wonder if it was only a particularly good vintage, cellar maturation or the wine makers did put additional attention on the 10-years jubilee edition. Fruit still very crisp, soft and well ripened tannins. 94 pts.

Overall very consistent tasting profile of red fruits, liquorice, spices. Great quality. For the overall bottles that I tried, one corked is acceptable, pity I did not have a second 2011 to try in the same context. (899 views)

Tasted by foyfrcs on 11/15/2021 & rated 91 points: Deep ruby.
Spice, plums, damsons on the nose this time ( I thought there were red fruits last year?!)
Full bodied, well balanced.
Also some game & leather on the palate.
I enjoyed this more than last year, one bottle remaining. (1269 views)
Tasted by AlphaMikeFoxtrot on 7/3/2021 flawed bottle: Opened in Miami.

Pretty dead. Dark fruits and oak influence but not very much else. No garrigue and nothing that screams either Cannonau or Sardegna. No super obvious signs of heat damage either. Given the other positive reviews, I’m making as a flawed bottle until I try another one. (1645 views)
Tasted by Bob in NC on 4/17/2021 & rated 89 points: The last bottle of this wiine we drink a month ago had a slight cork component to it; we are quite happy this bottle does not. Based on our notes from a year ago, this wine is on the just on the down hill side as it's not as vibrant and with a little raisin component. That said, it's still a great drinking wine with it's primarily Carignan (85%), CS 10% & M 5% providing great brambly dusty blackberry and plum fruit. Went great with our homemade sausage pizza.  Tasted by GoBlue2002 on 3/7/2021 & rated 92 points: Ripe and fruit forward, yet still distinctly Italian.
Dried plum and prune, anise, violet.
Firm yet supple tannins, spice, bramble.
Still holding strong - drink until 2023/4. (1205 views)
Tasted by olracx62 on 10/23/2020 & rated 93 points: I always liked carignano-based wine from Sardinia and this Barrua (made also with CabSauv) is really nice and pleasant with its roundness and armony of tastes, sip after sip. Some educated oak helps. Will try other vintages (1026 views)
Tasted by foyfrcs on 6/13/2020 & rated 90 points: Medium ruby.
Red fruits, cherries on palate and nose.
Well balanced, long finish, very good wine.
Probably has 4/5 years left? (1436 views)
Tasted by Sugarb on 3/26/2020 & rated 93 points: Wow, easily the best of the 5 that we've had yet, sorry I only have one more left. Popped n' poured, so nothing special about that. Superb red fruits, medium-long finish, this bottle had none of the astringency from prior bottles. Pure pleasure, ESPECIALLY at that price. Would not post if it were not this good! (1160 views)
Tasted by Bob in NC on 3/14/2020 & rated 91 points: We enjoyed this youthful, rich and tasty wine with and without food. This blend of 85% Carignano, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot provides a fantastic and unique (at least to us) palate. So smooth and flavorful. We loved the integrated flavors of brambly black fruit, leather, herbs, black pepper, black licorice, and the sweet plumy and raisiny finish.

Based on this bottle, this wine will be enjoyable for a number of more years. Glad we have 2 more! (1018 views)
Tasted by t0pshelf on 12/8/2019: I'm surprised to find this one has improved with time as I didn't expect it to. Retains its earthy/mineral elements, with tannins better integrated. Hint of oxidation, so probably not a lot more time left. Drink remaining bottle soon. (1327 views)
Tasted by GoBlue2002 on 1/27/2019 & rated 92 points: Quite an interesting wine, which picks up on the cab on the nose.
Earthy, silky tannins, floral, anise. Rich without being heavy. Went well on it's own, and paired well with pesto steelhead trout.

Tasted by Happykost on 12/4/2018 & rated 92 points: Dark red, medium body, complex texture and aroma with red fruits and hints of coffee and vanilla, medium-lomg finish (1719 views)
Tasted by isbjoern on 12/2/2018 & rated 90 points: Slightly hot on the palate but otherwise very tasty wine with spicy garrigue flavors, some tobacco and lots of ripe plum fruit. Fruit forward, not overly complex and drinking very well now. - 90 points (1406 views)
Tasted by Krassens on 10/26/2018 & rated 92 points: Tasted this alongside the 2012 Montessu. This is deeper, richer, more fruit forward. Lesser tannins, but more coffee, cedar, dark cherries, cocoa, hint of vanilla, long and rewarding. A really accomplished wine, probably in its prime now or over the coming year. 91-92p (1685 views)
Tasted by Markus IWC on 4/20/2018 & rated 87 points: Rich and opulent wine, Parker style with loads of exclusive French barriques. Expressive nose with cherries, leather, vanilla, meaty notes and hints of tobacco. Warm and intense mouthfeel, still reasonable balanced with nice acidity. Labeled the Sassicaia of Sardinia. Great wine for the price of you like the style. (611 views)
Tasted by isbjoern on 4/6/2018 & rated 90 points: Very good wine from Sardinia. Slightly hot on the palate but otherwise very tasty wine with spicy garrigue flavors, some tobacco and lots of ripe plum fruit. Fruit forward, not overly complex and drinking well now. - 90 points (2819 views)
Tasted by AnseVata on 1/20/2018 & rated 89 points: Nose was black currant. Palate was spicy and bitter. Medium body. (2187 views)
Tasted by EMAZurich on 9/8/2017 & rated 88 points: Hmmm... eingekochte Pflaumenfrucht, überreif, sehr konstruiert... maggarnicht... (3488 views)
Tasted by isbjoern on 8/27/2017 & rated 89 points: A tasty and well-composed blend from Sardinia. Spicy and very ripe fruit with a good dose of vanilla and spicy oak, soft tannins. Not as complex as some previous vintages I have had, but still a very nice drink. Good now, but will hold. - 89 points (2287 views)
Tasted by GoBlue2002 on 6/21/2017 & rated 91 points: Opened up smooth, but improved after 2 hours by loosening up a bit.
Fruit forward/berry in the modern style, with loads of spice and earth.
Medium bodied yet easy to drink. Went well with a calzone. (3363 views)
Tasted by foyfrcs on 5/29/2017 & rated 89 points: Easy drinking, full, floral nose. Few years ? 3/4 left. (2297 views)
Tasted by Rubinsteins on 3/17/2017 & rated 89 points: Easy drinking now. I didn't detect much complexity. Medium fruit. Soft tannins but I did let it breathe for about 20 minutes, and disagree with the "pop and pour" notion of the other reviewers. It developed a bit and was much more enjoyable after some time. (3048 views)
Tasted by JulianSkeels on 3/8/2017 & rated 89 points: My last notes were spot on. This only needs a few minutes of air, but is becoming increasing simple. Nice mid-palate, but lacks complexity and thinning. Was better 2yrs ago. Declining - drink up. Drink 2017, especially with good pizza. 89pts now (2241 views)
