Tasted by SLOman on 4/4/2019 & rated 93 points: Wonderful, aging nicely. I'd drink now, maybe another 3-4 years at most. (1065 views)
Tasted by agsdlswine on 2/10/2019 & rated 92 points: Excellent Paso Syrah Blend. (1020 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 5/15/2018 & rated 92 points: Syrah with accentuation. The Petit Verdot make this syrah more syrah like. Love this blend. (1348 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 4/21/2018 & rated 93 points: Once again, syrah on steroids. Fabulous. (1266 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 3/4/2018 & rated 94 points: Geez. What an incredible wine. This is syrah on steroids. The PV makes the flavors of the syrah explode in your mouth. This may well be becoming my favorite Calcareous bottling. Great job by Justin Joyce of blending--who would think a BDX wine with a Rhone. Just incredible wine. (1364 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 1/4/2018 & rated 94 points: Wow. This is potentially one of the best blends I have ever had from Paso wines. It makes the syrah sooooo much better. Such an out of the box blend, but what character. I think this becoming my favorite Calcareous wine. Incredible blue fruit. Soft tannins. Just lovely wine. (609 views)
Tasted by SLOman on 12/31/2017 & rated 92 points: Luscious! (520 views)
Tasted by Coachron13 on 11/23/2017 & rated 94 points: Another great Calcareous syrah, this one with 14% petit verdot which makes it a deep dark robust wine. We’ve always thought that Paso Robles makes the best syrahs in Clifornia, this one certainly supports that. (370 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 11/3/2017 & rated 92 points: Another great west side Rhone blend. Lovely wine. (386 views)
Tasted by djsievers on 11/27/2015 & rated 89 points: Inky dark from the Syrah. Berries, blackberries and a bit peppery. Nice finish and very drinkable (1495 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 9/24/2015 & rated 92 points: Calcareous keeps making better and better wine. This is such an interesting combination, Syrah and petit verdot. Who would have thought, but very nice. (1344 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 7/5/2015 & rated 91 points: Tasted both at the winery and also had a bottle for dinner that night. Delicious blend. A one hour decant really improves it. Lovely stuff. (1314 views)

Calcareous

Producer website

Pronounced kal-kâr'ē-Əs. WINE LABEL: The beautiful western hils of Paso Robles caught our eye. The exceptional Calcareous (limestone) sil, so rare to California, gained our attention. The ocean breezes caressed our souls as the southwestern exposure warmed our hearts. The terroir replicates some of the most famous vineyard regions of France.

Syrah Blend

The 2018 is 40% Merlot and 60% Syrah.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
