Community Tasting Notes (average 87.4 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 9 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Cabfrancophile on 11/14/2015: Consistent with prior notes. Shows some processed vanilla yogurt oak on the finish, but the core fruit is really nice. Drink now while the fruit still dominates over some weird treatment that is getting more obvious. (1804 views)
Tasted by Cabfrancophile on 6/13/2015: Similar to prior note, though showed more (i.e. I perceived more) graham-cracker oak flavor. Still, I like the acidity and savoriness, it's a nice crowd pleasing house wine. (1833 views)
Tasted by Cabfrancophile on 5/11/2015 & rated 88 points: Like an early-drinking Cotes du Rhone in weight and structure, but with CA fruit. Not much tannin, though the acidity brings nice balance. Mostly black cherry/blackberry, not roasted or heavy, and set apart by the savory, bacony Syrah character on both the nose and attack. The umami on the attack is tasty, though there isn't much to the finish. Not an ager, though the balance should keep it in good shape for at least a few years.

Interestingly, the cork has Foggy Veil inscribed, and usually private label brands go with a generic cork. Makes me wonder if this was originally intended as a TJs private label. (1817 views)
Tasted by dwaynelm on 1/27/2015 & rated 89 points: Dark cherry, good acidity, and moderate tannin. Nice complexity with a long finish. (1943 views)
Tasted by Snoman on 1/5/2015 & rated 88 points: Easy-drinking Rhone blend, with medium garnet-red color and nice aromatics of red fruit and a touch of spice. Flavors emerge with red cherry, some rhubarb and Asian spice in a medium-bodied blend, no discernable tannins, but a touch of acid to balance. Light+ finish, pleasant and food-friendly. (2024 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
