Tasted by thewineengineer on 5/10/2024 & rated 95 points: Rinaldi vertical at Franco’s house: Served double blind.
Medium-pale ruby with garnet nuances. The nose starts on the tertiary side, a little bit dusty, with some leather. Shortly it cleans and we got a light fruit first and then forcufully the orange hints both at nose and in the mouth. Wide and complex mouth with tannins present but almost resolved and a truly remarkable length. Then, waiting, very little balsamic tones and some mojito mint hints at nose, whereas the endless persistence shows some vibrant acidity that make it even longer. Wine of the night, apart the vintage, because this bottle was in a state of bliss. 94-95 (213 views)
Tasted by johnh1001 on 4/27/2024 & rated 93 points: Delicious red fruit, rose petals, plums trace of tar. Absolutely beautiful, not quite as round as the 2010 we had last night. (466 views)
Tasted by LFCHALA on 9/27/2023 & rated 95 points: Mesmerizing young Barolo. (1821 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 7/22/2023 & rated 94 points: Dinner with Rich (Heirloom Cafe, SF): Stood up for weeks, decanted off 2oz. Light ruby, clear; aromatic, roses, cherry fruit; palate is light-medium bodied, definitely some tarry notes, some floral/roses, richer styled than other vintages, high tannin, lovely depth; finish is medium-plus length. It does come across as from a warmer year, but it has a depth of flavor which is very nice. If anything this seems youthful and has a long runway ahead of it, though not a bad idea to try one now. 93-94 for now, will likely open up more with air.
With air, nice Barolo, youthful, and showing a tad bit of warmth but otherwise full of character and fabulous with the food. Lovely depth. Drinking well now, but also likely to at least last if not improve for the next 5-10 years.
Day 2: Just a half-glass left, but it's held up fairly well! Still full of character and very enjoyable. (2035 views)
Tasted by AWBryce on 4/15/2023: Incredible bottle of wine, rose petals, soft cherry, palate is balanced, good acid and structure, good fruit. Long long finish. (2222 views)
Tasted by cct on 12/2/2022 & rated 93 points: Giuseppe Rinaldi in Tucson, or Tom comes to Tucson Night 1 (Ciabot Tucker): Double decanted earlier in the day then drunk at dinner.

Rich and showing the ripeness of the vintage, but not sens eo warmth. Roses, cherry fruit, some hard candy. It's forward and plush for Rinaldi with youthful bright fruit, balsam, and good purity. Quite long, and grows with air time. Quite long on the back end. I don't think this will be a wine for the ages, but it is youthfully beautiful right now and has plenty fo time in hand. A solid 2011.  Tasted by joshabramson on 9/4/2022 & rated 93 points: Pouted from 1.5L: Very pretty aromatics, fruit is precise and detailed, a bit muted at this stage, at least in this larger format. Quite good, but needs some air or more time. I didn’t decant ahead of time and that was a mistake, I’d say. (2770 views)
J'adore.
Bravo et merci à Beppe Rinaldi. (2160 views)
Tasted by LW31 on 7/23/2022: Delicious Rinaldi. Lots of depth here with a somewhat rustic edge (but that’s part of the charm). It’s ready though probably even better in a few years. (2209 views)
Tasted by NostraBacchus on 6/27/2022 & rated 95 points: This was (unfortunately :-) tasted next to the epic 2008. Jumps right out of the glass, with explosive notes of super perfumed red cherries, ripe red berries in general, rose petals, some violets also just a touch of tar and tobacco leaf. It‘s medium-full bodied, but lacks the persistence of the 2008, has high acidity and medium-high tannin that is there but seems a touch rougher than 2008, this is splitting hair though. Good finish.
This would probably be an excellent wine for any occasion but it was just suffering a little bit from being served next to the incredible 2008. Still a very good Brunate that is just short of being truly great. It makes up for it with being super seductive and is welcoming you with open arms. (2644 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 11/26/2021: Return to Piemonte!; 11/25/2021-12/4/2021 (Castello di Sinio, Alba, other various locations): Somm opened the bottle almost as soon as we ordered it and then poured a bit later. This was just excellent. It’s easy to see why Rinaldi is considered one of the better producers in the area. There is an elegance to it that is hard to surpass. Really lovely structure and just beautiful. (3562 views)
Tasted by vespa110 on 11/3/2021 & rated 94 points: Rubino limpido con unghia leggermente aranciata, naso compresso per 1 ora, poi si distende, liquerizia, ribes rosso, fumè pietra, spezie piccanti, bocca suntuosa, elegante, vellutata, con acidità in armonia con tannini sottili, frutto e goudron nel finale salino. Piaciuto. Per me in una fase perfetta. (2481 views)
Tasted by Hanibal on 9/25/2021 & rated 94 points: This had a magnificent nose. Lots of fruit with tar and roses. The taste was also silky but had it the same power as the nose this would have been a 96 or 97 (3116 views)
Tasted by Axone on 6/13/2021 & rated 95 points: Très beau vin, dans une bonne fenêtre de dégustation. (2720 views)
Tasted by theriffraph on 5/23/2021 & rated 97 points: Textbook tar roses balsamics with a beautiful palate. After 24h slow ox. Stunning (2759 views)

Tasted by theriffraph on 12/22/2020 & rated 97 points: Slow ox’Ed 22 hrs before consumption. The nose was captivating - roses, tar, liquorice, balsamic spices. It did not dissipate over the two hours I had this wine. Spectacular. On the palate lots of dark fruit, spices. Medium bodied. Tannins still show youth at the back end but not harsh- stunning with lots of life still ahead. (2681 views)
Tasted by SARED on 11/13/2020 & rated 94 points: 94-95. Very expressive nose and palate. I want to score this higher on its enjoyment factor and vivid fruit. Cherry fruit rollup with medium acidity. Lush cherry with some spice and a bunch of balsamic, with lush concentration. A little spicy heat on finish that doesnt totally go away at a cooler temp. More powerful than the Tre Tine, but also a smidge too alcoholic to be a "great" wine. A non wine geek would love this for the vivid fruit. At release price I would buy more, at auction it is not obvious... (2557 views)
Tasted by T.E.D. on 12/10/2019 & rated 94 points: A beauty even at this age. Vibrant nose of violet and sage mushroom followed by crunchy berry. Palate was bright a showing stone fruits and tart cherry. Really vibrant all around. (3560 views)
Tasted by rlove on 10/4/2019 & rated 92 points: An appealing mix of cherry, rose, and balsamic notes define the rather pretty and open-knit nose that preludes a vibrant palate of cherry and soil tones framed by a killer acidic cut. The 2011 Barolo Brunate is only now emerging from its initial closed phase, offering an early glimpse of what will be a long life. (3758 views)
Tasted by Sleepy Dave on 9/8/2019: My favourite Barolo together with B.Mascarello, G. Conterno and Giacosa.

This has amazing purity, depth, complexity and length. Rose petal, sweet fruits, little clove and spices with leather. This has got the warmth of the region yet the acidity is there for the perfect balance with stunning underlying minerality. Great textural richness, film yet silky tannin.

Day 2: it was even more expressive, superbly elegant and juicy with incredible grip, sweet tannin, excellent acidity and very long, intense finished that won’t let go. (2039 views)
 Tasted by pren on 8/2/2019 & rated 90 points: LD。地质学。三个Barolo里最好的一个。有点animal味道。2-3 小时decant。 (3615 views)
Tasted by Kris G on 2/10/2019 & rated 91 points: A firm acidity, red fruits, iron, brushwood, blood, leather, fresh and juicy. (3362 views)
Tasted by jwsmith on 1/6/2019 & rated 93 points: Classic Rinaldi excellent finally a good one. (3191 views)
Tasted by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on 1/2/2019 & rated 94 points: Had at an Italian restaurant. Decanted and drank over two hours. Still early in its life, but great now nonetheless. Slightly too acidic for my palate, but real finesse here. Great mouthfeel. Too bad it will be very difficult to find another bottle going forward. (2554 views)

Fine Wine Geek Giuseppe Rinaldi page

GIUSEPPE RINALDI

A family-run production company, it exclusively produces grapes produced from its own vineyards. At the beginning of the 19th century, Battista Rinaldi was a cultivator of some vineyards of the Feudo of the Marquises Falletti di Barolo. Later he became a farmer owner and, initially, a seller of the grapes produced. Later, with his sons, he became a winemaker and bottler. The same company tradition, of character and craft dimensions, today continues with Giuseppe Rinaldi and the fifth and sixth generation daughters. The company produces Barolo for about 60% (Brunate vineyards, Le Coste, Cannubi-San Lorenzo, Ravera) and for the rest, Piedmontese wines such as Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba, Nebbiolo and Freisa delle Langhe, Ruchè.

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.

Brunate

Located on the southern border of the La Morra, though part of the vineyard is located in the neighboring commune of Barolo. Among the top vineyards on Piedmonte. As in Burgundy the best vineyards are all sub-divided in to small plots and with fragmented ownership. Consists of Tortonian soil. Typically produces more open, velvety, and plush wines. They are feminine, yet possess considerable structure and concentration.

Barolo

Regional History:
The wines of Piedmont are noted as far back as Pliny's Natural History. Due to geographic and political isolation, Piedmont was without a natural port for most of its history, which made exportation treacherous and expensive. This left the Piedmontese with little incentive to expand production. Sixteenth-century records show a mere 14% of the Bassa Langa under vine -- most of that low-lying and farmed polyculturally. In the nineteenth century the Marchesa Falletti, a frenchwoman by birth, brought eonologist Louis Oudart from Champagne to create the first dry wines in Piemonte. Along with work in experimental vineyards at Castello Grinzane conducted by Camilo Cavour -- later Conte di Cavour, leader of the Risorgimento and first Prime Minister of Italy -- this was the birth of modern wine in the Piedmont. At the heart of the region and her reputation are Alba and the Langhe Hills. This series of weathered outcroppings south of the Tanaro River is of maritime origin and composed mainly of limestone, sand and clay, known as terra bianca. In these soils -located mainly around the towns of Barolo and Barbaresco -- the ancient allobrogica, now Nebbiolo, achieves its renowned fineness and power.
