Tasted by Derek Darth Taster on 1/20/2024 & rated 93 points: Dinner at Wimborne. Drank in Gabriel Standart. >10 years bottle age already. Had very low expectations, so this really turned out really beautifully!
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, gold colour. Thin legs. Fast fading bubbles.
Nose medium+ intensity, with aromas of tertiary nuttiness, aged biscuity brioche toast, citrus orange, stony mineral notes. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol (12.5%), medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of lovely nuttiness, sweet caramel, citrus orange, ripe lemon curd, pineapple, wet stony minerality. Refreshing long acidic finish.
Very good quality. Body actually fleshing out even more with air. Aged house champagne style. Oxidative already but still well underpinned with good acidity and fleshy fruit. Drinking at peak probably.
Beautiful. To be updated. (1284 views)
Tasted by nobluda on 12/24/2023 & rated 87 points: A friend brought the bottle for the Christmas dinner for fun. Mediocre as we expected. Not a quality for this price. My 7-year-old son loved the golden bottle. (887 views)
Tasted by EvoPeteMTL on 6/17/2023 & rated 90 points: Glad I had the opportunity to try this, but the price of this is purely a marketing stunt. (2469 views)
Tasted by BLam on 2/4/2023 & rated 92 points: It was one of the twelve wines in the CNY gathering in Jim's home with wonderful fireworks. Everybody got drunk that night but felt graceful. Thank you Jim! (2044 views)
Tasted by Sean Tay on 1/28/2023 & rated 94 points: Medium nose intensity with notes of sea shell, mineral, red apple, toast. High acidity, slightly sweet on the palate. (2843 views)
Tasted by acyso on 9/18/2022 & rated 80 points: Pausing for the Cause 2022 (Part 2) (Chicago, IL): It's like "oops, my hand slipped" when dosing the bottle and then like 4x the amount of dosage ended up in it. Ludicrously bad wine for the price, this is put to shame by pretty much any entry-level bottle of champagne (which this may well be, since I imagine the price of this wine goes to the bottle and the marketing). Anyway, distinctively sweet, this tastes nowhere like a brut, and there's no complexity (or really anything else discernible) on the palate either. Very short. I'm inordinately glad to have gotten to try this.

In fairness, this was not served in a club, so I may have been missing the full experience. (4370 views)

Tasted by mblatino on 1/24/2022 & rated 90 points: Light golden in the glass.

On the nose it shows some maturity. Brioche, green candied apples, fresh citrus.

On the palate soft, fresh and with a nice mousse.

A really nice glass og champagne. But the price is far from justified.

On off the list. Probably wouldn’t buy it again, but definitely wouldn’t mind it being served. (2735 views)
Tasted by Dnordh on 9/18/2021 & rated 93 points: Had with Beluga and Oscietra, good match :) (3389 views)
Tasted by Sean Tay on 8/29/2021 & rated 92 points: Medium nose intensity with notes of mineral, sea, apple, pear. High acidity. Slight toast and sweet on the palate. Not sure if I think its worth the money, but the bottling do look impressive. (2861 views)
Tasted by BenBlu on 7/27/2021 & rated 91 points: First time with this label - in fact I had been familiar with Cattier having visited them 20 years back which is when a bottle must have cost me around €12 direct or so for the Brut NV going up to €30 for the Clos Moulin. This champagne evaluated without the bling of the bottle was a nice drink - clean, some pear notes, very fresh aperitif style. Absolutely fine fizz, maybe tad high on the dosage (not disturbingly so though to be clear) making it a crowd pleasing style.

Of course though the content is not better than other Grande Marque standard NVs, so as a wine drinker you will channel your funds into other things surely. Still good to try. (3132 views)
Tasted by Sean Tay on 7/24/2021 & rated 95 points: Medium nose intensity with notes of sea shell, mineral, lemon, grapefruit, slight honey, toast. High acidity, slightly sweet. Drank it side by side with Dom Perignon 2010, I like the 2010 Dom slightly more. (2840 views)
Tasted by Harley1199 on 4/20/2021: Surrounded by models of Victoria’s Secret with my tightly fitted leopard thong on, sunbathing on my 40-meter yacht anchored between Ibiza and Formentera, I told my crew to climb on deck a golden bottle of the Ace of Spades so those paparazzi stationed on nearby boats could get a snapshot of that "tacky bowling alley" facet as I like to be.
Joking no more, in my humble opinion this champagne is one of the world’s largest marketing operations in the wine world. An exorbitant price for what it really is, famous for appearing in the shows of "some sisters operated on buttocks" and with that golden coating, dazzles very simple spirits. No problem.
I will never be a competitor treasuring this kind of bottles. As for the champagne, where they blend shoulders (as Fernando Remírez de Ganuza would say) of unknown lands very north of Reims from wines of three different vintages, on the nose it is quite obvious that weight of the pinot noir with those sweet notes of brioche (surely an excessive dosage), quite peachy too. Also memories of sour raspberries and some citrus. Without much precision neither complexity. On the contrary, direct and obvious. On the palate it has an oily texture, quite heavy, with an adjusted acidity and a fine persistence. Vulgarity formwork dressed in gold and with "L' As de Pique" on. Flamboyance in excelsis. Psychologically this current price will make you think this is better than it really is. I wasn't affected by that because I was invited so ...

(3581 views)

Tasted by Satoshi Nakamoto on 1/16/2021: Ripe apples, lemon/citrus zest, and bready aromas. A bit too simple of a drink-- lacking acidity and energy, especially compared to the Krug 168 right beside it. Not much to see here.

It'll get you more thots than Veuve though! (2768 views)
Tasted by Derek Darth Taster on 1/11/2020 & rated 90 points: Davyd's Birthday celebration at ES BK. TASTED BLIND!!! Now who the ** does that?? Glad we drank it blind nonetheless. Hahaha. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Initially damm tight and unyielding. Needed a good dose of air to show.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Thin legs. Fine persistent bubbles.
Nose is clean, medium- intensity, with aromas of clean stones, toast and biscuit. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol (12.5%), medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of citrus lemon, lemon peel, yellow pear, brioche, toast, nuts, salty saline minerals. Long finish with lingering sweet minerality. On hindsight, could just be the high dosage (9g/l).
Good quality. Drank blind, just tastes like an ordinarily good quality BdB.
Hahaha is actually 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Meunier. Base wines 2009, 2010, 2012. (4942 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 11/11/2019: Just horrible. How does this even get released? clumsy, unpure fruit, blah finish. Biggest scam in wine. Southern Tasting (4285 views)
Tasted by kentlaw on 9/26/2019 & rated 70 points: Had it at a friend's birthday party. Very average. Not much going on the nose with very light scents of brioche, golden apples and lemon rind. The palate is short, light, and frankly not much going on besides a slight hint of sweetness from the 9g/l dosage. Do not understand the hype and if you serve it blind, it is not that different than an average bottle of NV from any champagne house.

Let it breathe for 30 minutes. Even worse with no freshness. (3789 views)
Tasted by csimm on 9/5/2019 & rated 86 points: Yellow citrus, chalk, 9V battery, lemon rind, lemon seed, chamomile, varnish, and some twig notes. Slight oxidative notes on the attack, finishing bitter with an alkaline aftertaste. Not a ton of complexity here, nor much layering of flavor. Others went gaga over this, so I’m not sure if it was bottle bling, tariff envy, or what, but this didn’t do a whole lot for me.

I suspected that there might be a slight technical flaw here, but was assured that wasn’t the case. Ok then...If this is the intended outcome here, then all I can say is this could’ve been a $30 sparkler from a 7-11 and I wouldn’t have known the difference.

What I do know is that other Champagnes and sparklers poured throughout the evening overshadowed this by a significant margin. An Ultramarine BdB and a 2009 Dom obliterated the Ace of Spades. (5652 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 7/8/2019 & rated 92 points: Lovely nose - a bit of honey, yellow fruit, minerality. Vibrant and mineral on the palate. Really well balanced. Fresh with very good length. 91-93 (3822 views)
Tasted by Friendless Drinkers Club on 6/24/2019 & rated 93 points: First vintage in 2006, Jay Z bought a stake in this winery after Cristal champagne owners complained they couldn’t stop rappers from drinking their champagne. Named after a French novel character Brignac and the Ace of Spaces on the label is one of the designs used by French monarchy. What makes this champagne different from other non vintage champagnes is the dosage, which is aged in oak for 9 months. Each bottle hand made. Non vintage but a blend of typically 3 vintages. Blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier grapes. Aged in new French oak for 1 year. Tasting note: very fresh and creamy. Had some honey elements. Nice but not spectacular (2628 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 1/5/2019: New Year's Champagne Madness (Casa Gill): Wish I had tasted this blind, as the bottle is just so off-putting to me. Seemed pretty fruit forward and more broad, but I wouldn't have said this was any different from a basic bubbly. (3374 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
