Community Tasting Notes (average 89.3 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 29 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Mtpisgah on 11/30/2019: Ok but a little too sweet, almost Riesling like. (820 views)
Tasted by guzmana on 6/13/2019 & rated 91 points: Very nice with Indian food. Refreshing and with a touch of spiciness. Rounded. (767 views)
Tasted by depdoc on 10/11/2017 & rated 90 points: This is the third of three bottles. The first two tasted vastly different and were not appreciated by me at all. Incredible bottle variation, as this was classic dry, flavorful with typical aroma. In short, wonderful. (1323 views)
Tasted by JackCMac on 9/12/2017 & rated 94 points: Best gewurtz of weekend. Alsatian is again a Hit. Great nose. Full bodied w lingering after taste (1262 views)
Tasted by mnuncorked on 9/5/2017 & rated 88 points: dark lemon color. on the nose a little bit of spice and lovely floral notes. On the palette, off-dry, with medium body and flavors of tropical fruit (banana and pineapple), moderate acidity and medium finish. (1297 views)
Tasted by depdoc on 7/26/2017 & rated 87 points: The aroma is vastly better than the taste, which is not bad, just not very good. (939 views)
Tasted by azwino on 6/4/2017 & rated 88 points: No formal notes. Nice, great aroma and fruit on the palate, but wished there was a bit more acid to balance the sweetness. (1016 views)
Tasted by depdoc on 4/12/2017 & rated 86 points: Nice aroma, but that is it. Bland, no spice, not worthy of the Zind Humbrecht name. This is the first ZH wine I have had that disappointed me. (669 views)
Tasted by Deux Chevaux on 8/18/2016: The last two August notes generally reflect our recent experience doled out in small pours over 5 nights. In addition, we got some pleasant stone fruit pit/ slight astringency. And yes, maybe a bit stewed, but not unpleasantly so. (1095 views)
Tasted by Mossrose on 8/14/2016 & rated 91 points: Pale yellow color and richly perfumed with rose water, lychee, and lemon basil. In the mouth, lightly sweet with decent acidity instead of the low acidity typical for Gewurztraminer. Smoothly textured, glides down when swallowed. A fine introduction to the Zind Humbrecht Gewurztraminers at an affordable $20 price, without making the wine dumb downed, thin, or bland. Tastes spectacular with a spicy red pepper and quinoa spread. (97 views)
Tasted by Vino Nomad on 8/7/2016 & rated 89 points: Intense lychee and white peach on the nose with white flowers and a hint of wet rocks. I've been drinking down a case of this over the past 12 months, and I can see a downward trend. Would've rated this a 90 or 91 last year. The fruit is becoming more stewed without the acidity necessary to maintain some life. Very good value and an enjoyable wine, but not something to cellar. Drink now. (1004 views)
Tasted by BaronsPaw on 7/16/2016: Difficult to rate - on the first day it was quite sweet and smooth, but by the second day, the alcohol is intense, and it's sour. I highly recommend finishing on the first day to enjoy this to its fullest. (826 views)
Tasted by vino_per_tutti on 4/22/2016 & rated 89 points: Dried apricot, white flowers and honey on the nose; sweet honeysuckle, apricot and cream on the palate and finish. More sweet than dry. (1059 views)
Tasted by Mmmmisha on 4/2/2016 & rated 90 points: Bought at Costco for $20. Absolutely delicious wine at this price for people who appreciate a dry Gewürztraminer style. There's tons of dried fruit and an unctuous mouth feel. I found a slightly oxidized quality that contributed to the dried apricot and honey flavors. I don't think the wine was oxidized at all, but some may find it a little odd. (729 views)
Tasted by Icemantdx on 3/18/2016 & rated 85 points: Very floral with lychee and rose petal. Also very dry with some acid. However some sort of astingent flavor left a sourish tone in the mouth, maybe the lack of rs didn't balance out the acid? Had spicy chicken thighs. (725 views)
Tasted by GTFreek on 3/7/2016: Blind tasted. Obviously floral with a spice component like ginger or saffron. Alcohol medium plus, acidity medium minus. (753 views)
Tasted by Ombibulous on 1/13/2016 & rated 89 points: Delicious with spicy Cuban black bean and ham soup, with crackers. This was bought for Christmas, but there was no room in the fridge for it in Carbondale. The flavour grows a little intenser but also slightly stranger after a night or two. But overall Zind-Humbrecht makes fine Alsatian wines like this. Not as good as Trimbach, but still good, and at a lower price. $20. Will buy again in future. 13.5%. Made from grapes from biodynamic agriculture. (958 views)
Tasted by stassivo on 12/13/2015 & rated 89 points: Focused nose with elderflower, dried apricot, rose water and melon. Medium texture on the palate, nice acids and yellow fruit, ending in smoky spiciness. Medium rich and bone dry. Good tension and purity, a well-balanced Gewurztraminer. (867 views)
Tasted by danstrings on 10/17/2015 & rated 88 points: Wonderful clean, fresh floral exotic aperitif. Yet blessedly dry and refreshing. (924 views)
Tasted by RajivAyyangar on 9/11/2015 & rated 87 points: Education Retreat 1 (Cabin in the woods): At lunch. Aromatic. Lychees. Possible slight botrytis. 15-20g/l RS? (only 7.3g, but the acid was lower than expected, so my impression was higher RS). Phenolic bitterness. Medium acid. Very nice and classic.
13.5% Alcohol
7.3 g/L RS
3.3 g/L H2SO4 TA (793 views)
Tasted by CondorKhan on 5/29/2015 & rated 90 points: Zind Humbrecht tasting at my local store: From the warm Herrenweg site. Intense Gewurz aroma. It might be the most obviously lychee-like Gewurz I’ve had or it might be that I ate a bag of lychees 2 days ago. Flowers and peach on the nose as well. On the palate again more lychee and peach. Lots of body and power, this would beat Grand Crus of lesser producers (it’s also priced like one). (333 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 3/25/2015: Drank @ Aldo Somm wine bar paired with tuna crostini. The saltiness of the fish really brought out the RS of the wine which was easy and light on its feet and with a nice balancing acidity. Very enjoyable. (1478 views)

Zind-Humbrecht

Producer website
Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is one of the stars of the Alsace, in the northeastern corner of France. Fought over for decades by Germany and France, the region, according to Robert M. Parker Jr., “is perhaps the most underrated and underutilized source of great white wines in the world.” Zind-Humbrecht was created in 1959 by Leonard Humbrecht and Genevieve Zind. Their son Olivier is now instrumental in running the 99-acre estate, which the family still owns. Like many Alsatian producers, Zind-Humbrecht makes white wines in varying degrees of sweetness, from dessert whites to very dry wines. The vineyards are planted to 30% Riesling, 30% Gewurztraminer, 29% Pinot Gris, and smaller amounts of Pinot Noir, Muscat, Chardonnay, Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc. Up to 18,000 cases are produced annually. Many are Grand Crus and single vineyard bottlings.
