| Community Tasting Notes (average 89.9 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 9 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by rloomis on 1/18/2007 & rated 87 points: rhubarb, stewed apple + spice (1724 views) | | Tasted by 750ml on 11/9/2006 & rated 91 points: Rich nose of blackberry, cassis and licorice with some smoky oak overtones. Delicious raspberry, cherry and plum fruits on the palate which are well balanced by herbs and a touch of black pepper. Tight and fine oak tannins diminishing on the finish to a soft medley of fruits with wisps of pepper returning to the nose. This wine is a real gem from one of the better vintages, and seriously under priced. If only I can remember where I found this bottle... (1880 views) | | Tasted by ihavezinned on 5/26/2006 & rated 84 points: Enjoyed with Karen. She said it was puckery and combative. I'm a little kinder, aromas of coffee and chocolate with flavors of raspberry and smoke, with musky undertones. Medium structure, medium length, medium body. Overall good, not exceptional. (2103 views) | | Tasted by rloomis on 10/8/2005: casis+leather, chocolate, savoury bacon+black olive -- a mighty meaty merlot! (1684 views) | | Tasted by mouton45 on 7/21/2005 & rated 89 points: There was nothing wrongwith this wine but it wasn't quite as good as I remember the last bottle. I actually liked the 2000 Raymond cab a little better. That said, it's a great buy at $10 and I should get a few more before they're gone (2303 views) | | Tasted by Drugstore Cowboy on 12/30/2004 & rated 95 points: Fantastic. Best merlot I ever had. (1477 views) | | Tasted by mouton45 on 12/19/2004 & rated 90 points: Had with grilled filets on Sunday with Andres and Jessie. I love this wine at the $10 Arturo price. Rich flavor. Nice finish. Intense without being overpowering. It's merlo, of course (1944 views) |

Producer websiteMerlotMerlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.Reserve The Wine News | Wine Country This Week | Wine Lover's PageUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Rutherford Rutherford,
