 Tasted by 750ml on 11/9/2006 & rated 91 points: Rich nose of blackberry, cassis and licorice with some smoky oak overtones. Delicious raspberry, cherry and plum fruits on the palate which are well balanced by herbs and a touch of black pepper. Tight and fine oak tannins diminishing on the finish to a soft medley of fruits with wisps of pepper returning to the nose. This wine is a real gem from one of the better vintages, and seriously under priced. If only I can remember where I found this bottle... (1880 views)

I'm a little kinder, aromas of coffee and chocolate with flavors of raspberry and smoke, with musky undertones. Medium structure, medium length, medium body. Overall good, not exceptional. Merlot

Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.
