| Community Tasting Notes (average 88.3 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 10 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Tannatastic on 2/1/2014 & rated 90 points: Initial nose reminiscent of a good fruity Armagnac. Once it settles down, there's plenty of burnt caramel and toffee aromas, with a hint of caramelised orange. Very easy to knock back if you're not careful!
Very nice. (2856 views) | | Tasted by Tim Heaton on 3/31/2013: from 375ml. Consistent with prior bottles, and as always, a standout pairing with homemade carrot cake. Lovely textures, and dazzling aromas and flavors of toffee, graham cracker, orange rind, and raspberry liqueur. Goes down far too easily. highly recommended. 18,0% abv (3034 views) | | Tasted by Tim Heaton on 12/28/2012: what a treat, and to say that it goes superbly with carrot cake, is perhaps the understatement of the year. I'm down to just a few bottles (375), need.to.source.more.now. 18,0% abv (2981 views) | | Tasted by numen on 5/13/2012 & rated 92 points: Lip-smacking delicious. Drank over three nights, and improved slightly with time. Not surprising, but a relatively subdued nose. Notes were slightly sweet and floral. Palate was very much like an only semi-sweet nectar. The grape-juice side of it was thick, round, and a little sweet, but the cognac side of the house was dry, and kept the sweetness well in check. The Cognac became more apparent in the finish, reminding me a bit of the VSOP or Napoleon, and the fruitiness of the juice highlighting the prune-like quality of the XO. (3600 views) | | Tasted by Tim Heaton on 10/14/2011: consistent tn's, from 375ml. This was a pop and pour that came across much like previous bottles, but a tad warm (18% abv). Benefits from a slow-O for an hour or two. Delicious candied orange peel, minerals and toffee bar. Score: B+ (3811 views) | | Tasted by Tim Heaton on 8/13/2011: Consistent notes. This goes down way too easily. An exquisite balance of fruit aromas, acid and mouth-filling pleasure. (2156 views) | | Tasted by woody0198 on 7/4/2011 & rated 92 points: Great bottle, very smooth, nice orange hints. (1820 views) | | Tasted by Tim Heaton on 7/8/2010: drank quite well over 3 nights, with a long, orange-caramel finish. consistent tn's, 16,0% abv. (2021 views) | | Tasted by Tim Heaton on 12/30/2009: Very enjoyable. I'd been sitting on this N.V. for the past few years, waiting for the right time/occasion - it was worth the wait. A superb bottle with an elegant nose of creamy orange soda, wet stones, sandalwood and wet leather. There's some sweetness to the nose but none on the palate. Dry and silky smooth, this serves up a clean, layered finish and a nutty, textured mouthfeel. Paired wonderfully with homemade carrot cake. Recommended + (2123 views) |
