Community Tasting Notes (average 95.4 pts. and median of 96 pts. in 472 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by sdr on 4/27/2024 & rated 94 points: An excellent bottle, from Rare Wine. Deeply mature but well preserved. Appropriate mousse. Very Krug - rye bread, whiskey barrel, caramel, brioche. Good acidity. Full body. It won’t improve so I hope it will hold on for a while. (695 views)
Tasted by pwagnert on 4/27/2024 & rated 98 points: Drank at Restaurant Aira (**) in Stockholm. Absolutely fantastic! Good drinking window right note! Fantastic freshness despite its age. (614 views)
Tasted by N.Bonaparte on 4/27/2024 & rated 95 points: 3rd of 21. 2.5 years since last bottle. This still has massive energy and is laser focused. This did not fully reveal itself over a 2 hour dinner. Continuous glass swirling helped reveal, to some extent, this supremely balanced chiseled beauty but really beauty to be with a finish that simply didn’t end. This probably needs another 5-10 years to reach its prime and will easily drink well for 4-5 more decades. This was exceptional with oysters and held its own with rack of lamb. Revisit 2027 (593 views)
Tasted by jfpwine on 4/24/2024 & rated 96 points: Lemon color, tiny bubbles. On the nose, toast, green apples, hazelnuts and hints of stone fruit. Full and complete on the palate, with great balance and complexity. Excellent acidity and finish that keeps going. Excellent wine. (836 views)
Tasted by B Paul on 4/14/2024: Very fresh, more youthful than I expected. Excellent persistence and power here. Nothing out of place. This isn’t typically my preferred style of Champagne, but this is delicious and its greatness is evident. (1778 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 4/1/2024 & rated 98 points: blind
Again a stunning bottle. Very fresh. No hurry with this bottle. 98 (2025 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 3/24/2024 & rated 96 points: not blind
Still fresh, for the ages. Lemon peel, some hazelnuts. 96 (2199 views)
Tasted by Cailles on 3/18/2024 & rated 98 points: This vintage is in a perfect place today, with all its youthful freshness combined with a first wave of tertiary aromas, paired with the aromas of the house style. Complex, very precise, delicate and elegant, well blended but still with a lot of tension and zest. The first sips gave me goose bumps. Quite perfect and the best champagne I've had in a year (or since Krug 1996). 98/99pts.

TN: Wow, right from the start this is so expressive and intense but with a sense of balance, elegance and completeness that makes it clear that something great is in the glass. On the palate this is so delicate but with so much substance and layers and layers of white and citrus fruit, some toasty notes, some caramel, some nutty notes and all wrapped around a superb minerality backbone. Sweetness, savoriness in perfect balance. Ultra-fine mousse, so round, balanced and elegant. Lively and full of tension. Close to perfection.

Decanting: Superb right out of the gates. Remained on a high level throughout the evening. No decanting needed. (2783 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 3/15/2024 & rated 95 points: René Engel: Great because how immediately opulent and balanced it is, even if shy. Every time I taste this there is some slight development waiting to be noticed. 95 (1771 views)
Tasted by nmmnori on 3/15/2024 & rated 92 points: Rene Engel Dinner (Benoit Bistro, Manhattan): Rather lost in a line up of other great wines. Although I can firmly say that this is one of the lesser bottles of 02 I have had. Lacking the tension and richness of some other bottles

02 seems to benefit substantially from air - this particular bottle was not granted much. (2160 views)
Tasted by sirpat00 on 3/8/2024 & rated 97 points: Tasted semi-blind (bottle shape gave it away…). Fruit of red apple, fresh pear and bruised pear, laced with mineral notes, herbal complexity, hazelnuts and yeast – even showing elements of caramel and fudge. Light and vibrant palate, adding an increasing citric angle which amplifies the freshness. Bubbles form a mouthwatering mousse after pouring. An excellent Krug with tightly interwoven aromas, strong presence. Of the vintage Krugs I’ve had so far only bested by the 1996. For me this experienced a notable step-up from a couple of years ago. (2659 views)
Tasted by DougLee on 2/24/2024 & rated 94 points: Light gold color. Nose of brioche, grapefruit, apple, diesel, lifted stone. Layers of citrus, crisp apple core, pear, ginger, white pepper, and bready presence on the completely harmonious palate. Charged, fizzy acidity and persistent structure on the tongue. Long, potent peacock's tail of a finish providing tart sweet white fruit grounded in petrol and tactile biscuity texture. Beautifully balanced and exuberant Champagne. (2633 views)
Tasted by canan on 2/23/2024 & rated 97 points: T's 45th Birthday (Søllerød Kro): MG Bottle. Lovely and intense with a great flavor depth of both green and bruised apples but also a piercing acidity. As the night progressed, it kept evolving into a very balanced wine.
It started of showing a lot of coffee bean and sweet green apples but changed character to be more the classic Krug style. Loved it and it was simply stunning to try this from MG where it still felt very young! (2819 views)
Tasted by Oli_Vilmo on 2/3/2024 & rated 97 points: Extraordinary, complex, fresh (3111 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 1/28/2024 & rated 99 points: Krug Lover Dinner with Olivier Krug (Daniel Dal Ban 1876 (Tafelspitz) Düsseldorf): not blind
Side by side with CdM 2002. Many drinkers preferred the stunning regular Millesime in this stage. For me head to head. maybe I would go slightly with the CdM. The density and freshness likewise is unbeatable. 99-100 (3533 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 1/19/2024 & rated 97 points: not blind
Safe bet. Amazingly fresh and delicate. At least 2 more decades. 97 (3293 views)
Tasted by mjdixon on 1/1/2024 & rated 96 points: Amazing bottle of effervescent grand cru Montrachet or similar.
Some citrus, bread and honey with a massive persistence but elegant not overpowering on palate
Evolved over 3 hours at 10 deg
I have been underwhelmed by younger Krug and therefore doubted the value of vintage vs GC Krug
I’m now a believer (3327 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 12/26/2023 & rated 98 points: not blind
After a fewer "weaker" bottles. This is stunning again. WOTN for all participants in a blind tasting of prestige cuvees. 98 (3326 views)
Tasted by The Vines That Bind on 12/25/2023 & rated 94 points: [Magnum] Reference, surprised how open and accessible this was, especially en magnum, no screechy acid here, totally harmonious, great toast and round apple fruit. Crisp / crunchy. I sort of expected this to be overwhelmingly high acid and too youthful but it was in a great place for enjoying now. (2943 views)
Tasted by nmmnori on 12/25/2023 & rated 93 points: Not as full and round as prior bottles. Needs time to breath and open which this particular bottle was not allowed. (2683 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 12/23/2023: beautiful pit fruit. long and powerful acidity. drank next to the '02 DomP. and the freshness and youth of this is remarkable. Fresher than another bottle recently had. HOLD. (2535 views)
Tasted by sdr on 12/19/2023 & rated 94 points: Fully mature now, deep in its secondaries. Gold. Classic Krug flavors of hazelnut and brown butter with adequate acidity. Powerful luscious wine for a roast chicken. I’m slightly concerned about the acidity for the long term. (2666 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 12/9/2023: honeyed, rich, and very fresh. with a hint of almond skin. Beautiful wine. (3050 views)
Tasted by dbg on 12/2/2023: Tasted early among the panoply of wines at BWE '23, the 2002 Krug was pale yellow/gold with fine-medium bubbles. Great Kruggy nose of yeasty brioche, smoky nuances, and some early maturity nuttiness. Peach, apple, layered complexity on the palate, plenty of minerality and bracing acidity, medium-full body, long finish. While showing signs of complexity and clearly in a prime drinking window, I wouldn't be surprised to see this develop additional nuance and improve further over time. Has a long life ahead of it. Outstanding! (3103 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 11/28/2023 & rated 97 points: semiblind
Delivers like Karl Malone. Maybe a hint too evolved but at least 15 years ahead. 97 (3702 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
