Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 93.1 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 15 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Vailman on 7/31/2020 & rated 92 points: Decanted for two hours, consumed over the next two. This dark, ripe, fruit forward style offers a wonderful range of vanilla, plum and fig but comes with a price tag: high alcohol (15.5%) which, IMHO, detracts from the experience. The wine opened up/softened over time. (1017 views)
Tasted by bsmall on 10/22/2019 & rated 95 points: VERY huge wine, decanted 2 hours..and was still better 3rd day. Very full of dark fruit, bit of eucalyptus, long, long finish...definitely needs a good rib eye steak... (1235 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 8/17/2018 & rated 95 points: On the darker, deeper side - with plum, fig and olive notes. This has depth and energy to spare (1651 views)
Tasted by tfharris on 1/15/2018 & rated 93 points: Drank over hours, glass was better than the last (1874 views)
Tasted by Thepattees on 3/7/2017 & rated 93 points: Really tight when I first opened it. My fault for not decanting it first. It definitely softened up and had a nice smooth and full body after an hour or so. (2083 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 10/27/2016 & rated 92 points: Courtesy of R&D, popped and poured during dinner. Brief notes. Floral and black fruit elements dominate the bouquet with undertones of vanilla and spice. Full-bodied and structured, with vanilla, black fruit and chocolate flavors. Big, almost too much, but tonight I like it. (1551 views)
Tasted by Motz on 2/22/2016 & rated 91 points: There is some substance to this, but there is also a lot of extracted fruit, considerable oak, and high alcohol. Medium acid, good texture, decent finish. Crafted for the New World palate. (2003 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
