| Community Tasting Notes (average 88 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 10 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Eugenedinapoli on 3/10/2018: Medium ruby. Green bell pepper, herbaceous, black pepper. No funk. Soft but linear; light, even, mouth drying tannins throughout.
Tasted w the breton. This wine came off as lighter body and more refined while the breton was fuller and more rustic. Both were very nice. Very good value (2115 views) | | Tasted by chcook on 9/17/2016: PNP. Color dark garnet with purplish edges. Agree w others that nose shows cherry bell pepp and graphite. Swishing shows necessary acidity but most of the structure at the end is fine grained tannin. Sipping this allows the fruit to dominate the structure, and this shows surprising balance for the price point. Although there is polish this lacks weight in the mid palate. No doubt that the fruit density is buoyed by the structure. I like it (2032 views) | | Tasted by Motz on 7/11/2016 & rated 90 points: Focused and appealing bouquet, showing all that Loire Cabernet Franc should be, including peppers and graphite. Power and precision on the palate, great acid, grit, and finish. 89-90. (2434 views) | | Tasted by Beerzebub on 6/26/2016: P&p; best with 30+ minutes of air in the bottle as it gets more expressive. Fairly typical cherryish, earthy, white peppery, and mossy/vegetal/leafy aromas; fresh and pleasant. Similar on the palate; plenty of fresh acidity; fairly fruit forward, fresh juicy cherry (and red apple skin - obvious only after reading WAYWARDWINE's note!), balanced by the acidity, fairly firm tannins, and earthy/gravelly/stony and stemmy/leafy elements. Not incredibly deep or complex, but quite tasty and enjoyable, fulfills its Cab Franc fix function well, and a good value at sub-$20. lean, but quaffable cab franc with enough ripeness and interest but nothing too complex.
medium body with a light juicy structure. good acid, and minimal tannins midpalate but a young bitter tannin comes through on the finish.
bright boysenberry and cherry juice, coffee bean, red apple skin, pink grapefruit and a stoney minerality. some white pepper but by no means green or stemmy.
drink this cool with lighter fare. i would argue this is a little "hollow" compared to other cool climate cab francs but it's great for springtime. (1223 views) | | Tasted by waywardwine on 12/29/2015 & rated 89 points: Clear, medium intense purple ruby color with a short clear rim, wash legs Medium intense fresh crushed boysenberries, white pepper, iron Dry, medium plus acidity, lean dusty medium intense tannins, medium alcohol 13%, medium body Medium intense mouthwatering flavors of red apple skin, boisenberry, orange pith, chalk dust, iron. Medium length good.
A taut, lean, dark-berried, mineral Cabernet Franc from Chinon with oodles of acidity. Needs food. Can age well for five years. Consider lean, mildly prepared meats or mushroom or potato dishes pork, turkey, etc. I miss the old label.
