Tasted by rnjbond on 4/17/2024 & rated 94 points: Decanted for more than a hour.

Absolutely incredible. Nice color.

Notes of cherry blossom.

Long finish, still very tannic.

I think this will be amazing in five years.

94 points. (193 views)
Tasted by johnh1001 on 12/12/2023 & rated 93 points: Open. Light but powerful red and black fruit flavors. Plush texture (606 views)
Tasted by Brian of Mull on 10/6/2023 & rated 94 points: Opened for 1 hour. Color is fairly deep ruby for a Brunello. Orange rim showing age. On the nose: Forest floor funk, cherry, rose and tar. On the palate: Cherry, rose, strawberry, baking spices and bit of tar. Loads of tannins. Good length. This wine has a lot of years left. It’s very elegant and well made. (503 views)
Tasted by acyso on 5/20/2023 & rated 93 points: Sangiovese study, Volume II (Chicago, IL): This was double decanted around lunchtime, which I felt introduced more air than necessary, as the fruit was starting to show a little bit of oxidation, and the tannins seemed to feel like they were clamping down rather than loosening up. But overall I do like the red fruit profile here and think that this is a wine with very good long-term potential. (1774 views)
Tasted by Montesquieu on 11/21/2021 & rated 93 points: Rolling Stones pre-concert party bus (Austin): First time trying the Riserva. Had green and woodsy flavors that I like. Surely a Brunello built for long aging, unlike many. (2332 views)
Tasted by RayOB on 10/13/2021 & rated 91 points: Drank at 110
Not as rich and deep as the other recent vintages (1885 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 11/23/2020: Smells of dark brunello fruit and wood but not overdone in either way. Super beautiful fruit from a oregon pinot glass. (2740 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 10/21/2019 & rated 95 points: Biondi-Santi Dinner with Tancredi Biondi-Santi (RPM Italian, Chicago, IL): Nose: This takes it all to another level. There is so much layered depth, polish, poise, and balance as it just permeates in the glass with tones of red cherries, raspberries, strawberries, wild flowers, roasted herbs, violets, leather, licorice, rose petals, wild spices, and leather tones.

Taste: The feel is Medium/full bodied with tart, medium+ acidity and chewy, high tannins. The tannins show off a good bit of youth, but they aren't too overpowering right now. The feel is refined and deep with red cherries, raspberries, strawberries, wild flowers, roasted herbs, rose petals, wild spices, and leather tones.

Overall: This is clearly young and powerful, but it is also absolutely gorgeous. This feels a bit deceptive in its open-ness right now as there is almost certainly another gear that can kick on in another 5-8+ years. (1637 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 6/23/2019: Even richer in old wood and depth (3358 views)
Tasted by "Rhône Rider" on 1/14/2019 & rated 93 points: Rødbær, men lukket nese. Saftig strukturert. Kirsebær, rødbær. Herlig eikebruk (lær, sjokolade og tobakk) . Detaljert. Tight. Trenger mye tid. Ekstrem lengde. 93-95 (2294 views)
Tasted by Andre Brattland on 12/9/2018 & rated 94 points: Concentrated and deep aromas with intense and tight fruit with cherries, plums, wet leather, dark chocolate and tobacco smoke.

Medium + bodied and rich wine with juicy and appealing red berry feeling, leather, dark chocolate and nuts. Good structure. The wine is still lacking in both start and finish. However, the tannins are nice and help balance the wine in a good way. 94 points. For now. (96P) (2938 views)
Tasted by KoalaHK on 11/28/2018: Drunk at the Fine Wine Experience Biondi-Santi Riserva Rarities Dinner at Otto e Mezzo in Hong Kong. Described as a "classic vintage". A lovely brightness, prominent tannins but still very elegant. The acid is here but maybe a little lower than usual for this wine, making me wonder what its longevity will be like. (2165 views)
Tasted by Rabaja on 11/18/2018 & rated 93 points: Tough to assess at this moment as it's no where near to being ready.
Lots of mint accented red cherry notes with Moroccan spice and notes of black fruit liqueur lurking in the back. The attack is rather sweet giving way to a full mouthfeel with good tannic core. On the palate the wine is focused smooth finishing with loads of waxy red fruits and spice. (1703 views)
Tasted by englishman's claret on 11/12/2018: Perhaps not the best time to show this wine as it's super tight; a bit of griotte and cured meat but that's about it. The palate comes off as quite austere as well. By no means a criticism; so many serious wines go through a stage like this in life. (1323 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 6/6/2018: That’s locked up pretty tight. (1105 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 6/6/2018 & rated 92 points: Wilson Daniels: Celebrating 40 Years (The Lakewood - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Dense red fruit. Meaty, dense and powerful but not quite as harmonious as the 2012 Brunello. Clearly needs time. (1938 views)
Tasted by Andre Brattland on 11/15/2017 & rated 93 points: En kjenner den noe varmere årgangen på nesen med intense mørke kirsebær og tydelige plommer som kommer rundt på av glasset. Ganske tøff, men tiltalende nese i hvertfall.

Tasted by peternelson on 7/25/2016: At the winery: Lost notes, but remember was disappointed. Not sure why these did not show well other than too young/were not opened long enough. (2281 views)

Tenuta Greppo (Biondi-Santi)

Producer website

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
