Tasted by AGELVIS on 2/2/2024 & rated 88 points: Thirty minutes in the glass before tasting. Deep dark ruby garnet color. Port-like nose. Very dry palate. Firm, full, medium intensity tannins on the longish finish.

This was interesting. Seems to be starting to fall apart. Had a wonderful tasting here at Seavey, although most of the wines were not my style. All the reds lean toward Bordeaux. The property is beautiful, with a working farm. (709 views)
Tasted by dsimmons on 1/5/2024: Drinking well at 20. (499 views)
Tasted by Napacablover on 7/12/2023 & rated 95 points: Spectacular! Still lots of life left in this one (603 views)
Tasted by jbaron on 4/23/2023 & rated 93 points: Very tasty if a tiny bit hot and a tiny bit tannic. Kevin says that “the taste wins” but I’d hope that more years would temper the tannin a bit and show a better still presentation . (603 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 11/11/2022: Seavey Dinner (bellwether): Another favorite of the tasting. This was out of magnum. Young and beautiful and well structured and dark and a bit almost brooding in style. Lots of fruit without being overpowering. Almost juicy in nature. Just a lovely wine. (1168 views)
Tasted by dsimmons on 12/26/2021 & rated 95 points: PnP and drank wit prime rib Xmas day. Delicious aged Cab drinking at or near peak. (1491 views)
Tasted by drmarc61 on 10/20/2021 & rated 90 points: This wine was not up to snuff with some others around the same time period. The primary fruit was muddled in with the wood, earth and spice notes. I do not see any upside to keeping this year cellared anymore. (1387 views)
Tasted by kend707 on 11/22/2020 & rated 88 points: First Seavey Napa Cab I wasn't wild about. Perhaps a fluke bottle, but I can't get to the numbers of other posters. Very mild cherry scented nose followed by light flavor. (1566 views)
Tasted by Vitis Maximus on 9/24/2020 & rated 95 points: Full bodied and soft tannins but still plenty of structure. Philippe, Philippe you have cooked up a long time winner. Gravely, earthy with stones and valley floor in the background. Dark fruit and cassis with lots of grit and grip. Have more than a few bottles left including a '96 that i was holding as tester. Got to get on it. This is Good Stuff Maynard! (1547 views)
Tasted by drrobvino on 4/23/2019 & rated 94 points: Bottle #2 of 3. Last tasted in 2012. This wine is big-boned and full-bodied. The tannins are still a bit fierce on the first day, but this softens on day 2 and 3. Gorgeous cassis and pencil lead, coffee grounds, black cherry, tar, and tobacco leaf.
The palate shows chewy tannins, lots of power, full-bodied, moderate and well-balanced acidity, with a long and teeth-staining finish.
Drink now through 2030+. Delicious. (2490 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 12/30/2018 & rated 94 points: Very good fully mature Cabernet made in a fairly traditional style. Pretty but modest nose of black currant, tobacco leaf. Palate is mature with moderate tannins and attractive balance showing flavors of black currant, plum, cigar box and lead pencil. This is Cab harks back to some of the great cabs on the 90s stylistically. I think this is in the early stages of its maturity plateau with 5 to 10 more years of great drinking. (2127 views)
Tasted by jbaron on 11/10/2018 & rated 93 points: Not mature but in a great place. (1987 views)
Tasted by dsimmons on 4/5/2018 & rated 95 points: Very nice mature Cab. Open this an hour before drinking. Beautiful integration and balance. Complex [palate with rich dark fruit and earthiness. Delicious. (2416 views)
Tasted by wine4lux on 11/22/2017 & rated 93 points: Medium ruby in color; red currant and mocha on the nose; mocha with a darker fruit profile on the palate; complex interplay of flavors and textures over a long and smooth finish. (2318 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 8/25/2017: tasty mature cab.....sweet fruit, resolved tannin and some chewy bits..excellent wine (2082 views)
Tasted by rlove on 7/8/2016 & rated 93 points: Inky purple. Gorgeous, expressive nose of black currant, mocha, and cedar. Sweet, plush, and nicely textured, but the tannins are more rustic than I recall from my last bottle. Finishes long and sweet, grippy with those aforementioned tannins. Drink now through 2030. (3006 views)
Tasted by rlove on 1/9/2015 & rated 93 points: Inky purple. Black currant, fresh earth, and cedar on the nose. A rich & powerful style. Tannins are soft and integrated on the palate, leading to a medium-long finish redolent of dark fruit and mocha. This seems big and overripe on the nose but is nuanced and mineral-driven on the palate. Drink now through 2030. (4333 views)
Tasted by jbaron on 11/15/2014: Wow this wine is really good. If only I'd pay the tariff for them these days! Nonetheless, we're lucky to have some from the old days.

The nose is the only reticent feature, unless you swirl and swirl. The mouth is spectacular in feel and taste, and the length is very good, if not spectacular. Good structure behind it all. Dark and candied Cherries, some dark charcoal/earth, etc.

Perhaps try again next year, in 2015? (3680 views)
Tasted by pipegarcia on 2/21/2014 & rated 94 points: Very young dark violet body. Open for 3-4 hours and drank for about 2 hours more. Excellent and strong nose of cassis, dark fruit, smoke. Medium body and medium full finish. Balance tannins, no too strong. Let this baby in the cellar for 5 years more. (4404 views)
Tasted by OttawaB on 12/22/2012 & rated 92 points: Dark inky red/purple. Nice deep sweet berry aromas. Very nice complexity with sweet blackberry, and currants on the initial attack. Borders on a being a bit jammy, but does not cross that line. Dusty drying tannins. Acidity is not quite Medium. Overall a nice balance. Some leather , graphite. Decent length to the finish. I'd go higher on the score if the acidity was a bit more. (5646 views)
Tasted by bruinboozer on 7/14/2012 & rated 93 points: Enjoyed at strand house. Decanted for 90 minutes. Another enjoyable experience. Plenty left in the tank (5451 views)
Tasted by deltacop on 1/21/2012 & rated 94 points: Outstanding. Still decanting but sample taste was great and the nose was outstanding. Thrilled these are ready to go. Enjoy!!! Edit- this was a big hit last night with everyone talking about it and asking what the name was over and over. The tannins are still drying which holds well for the future. I can't get over the Nose. I was swirling all night. Enjoy!!! (4542 views)
Tasted by jbaron on 1/17/2012 & rated 93 points: Open for 90 minutes. Initially (for the first five minutes after opening) this was all fruit and fruity fruit, but evolved into a morgraphite laden, earthy wine with a substantial, enjoyable backbone to support its weight. Seems well balanced, if a bit dark, with a nice nose, a substantially substantial mouth, and a very extended length. Good now, but better things on the horizon, I think, (4426 views)
Tasted by drrobvino on 1/13/2012 & rated 94 points: Cabernet Hedonism (Rob & Bev's place): Decanted 3 hours prior to the tasting. A wine of deep, opaque garnet-purple color. The nose was sweet and floral, with beautiful ripened cherries and a mild greenness that not only was enjoyable, but somehow added to the depth of the bouquet. The palate showed licorice, chocolate, and black currant fruit, with a gorgeous mouthfeel and beautifully integrated tannins. The balance was impeccable, this wine is just singing with youthful exuberance. Plenty of ooohs and aaahs all around the tasting table.

Tried this wine again from the partially finished bottle, 2 days later. This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. 50% new French oak. Virtually unchanged on the nose, possibly additional notes of wood and forest floor. The wine is huge, yet at the same time elegant on the palate, with the same notes as above, refreshing acidity and brightness...it is drinking so beautifully now, but will age gracefully for another 10-15+ years. This ended up being my WOTN. (4514 views)
Tasted by GBK on 12/23/2011 & rated 93 points: Drank 2 hours after decanting; the wine is maturing beautifully but needs some time in decanter before drinking. (3015 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
