Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.3 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 105 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by JCGuthrie on 2/28/2024: Citrus, honeycrisp apple. some light toasty notes that becomes more pronounced with air. A very nice champagne at the price point. (1063 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 2/25/2024 & rated 90 points: Monthly Tasting Group: All the Rhones (A - Side Public House, St. Paul, MN): Small taste. Oxidative, lacquer, white melon, baked apple, dried apple, chalk. 89-90ts . (1145 views)
Tasted by JCGuthrie on 2/9/2024 & rated 90 points: Initially this shows high-toned yellow fruit, toast and a slightly waxy character to the fruit. With some air it gains complexity and I got more biscuit notes. Better with food than by itself, especially upon opening. (1011 views)
Tasted by Bjweiss on 1/29/2024 & rated 91 points: I had the Laherte Ultradition just a few weeks ago and posted a note here in this thread likening it to a Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve and this bottle confirmed that yet again. While the Heidsieck is already a strong QPR proposition, the Laherte Ultradition is even better along that metric if you ask me. Definitely a crowd pleasing style that shows so many of Champagne’s greatest traits. (1022 views)
Tasted by Bjweiss on 1/11/2024 & rated 91 points: This base level Laherte Freres Ultradition Brut doesn’t get nearly the attention of the extra brut offerings, so I wasn’t sure what to expect of it going in…I have to say, it’s quite nice! Not a complex wine, or doing anything particularly memorable other than being well balanced, having good acidity, some sweet autolytic notes, rich yet fruity, and an excellent long finish. Sort of a leaner version of a Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve, to my taste. This is punching above its price class for sure (I paid $40), and would make for a great “house champagne” and a good crowd pleaser.

Update: adding a point. With air and a modest rise in temp this picked up when more richness and beauty. This is just a great champagne, period. (1123 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 12/10/2023 & rated 91 points: Annual Tasting Group Holiday Party (St. Genevieve, Mpls, MN): Had a small pour at the holiday party reception. No notes, but enjoyed it. 90+ to 91pts. (1186 views)
Tasted by JayP on 10/6/2023 & rated 90 points: Delicious grower Champagne. The (relatively ) low dosage and bottle age coming thru PLUS PN dominate. Really enjoyed it. (1331 views)
Tasted by PSPatrick on 9/17/2023 & rated 92 points: Another bottle from the 06'2022 disgorgement. Light reddish golden colour. Red berries, apple, ripe lemon, floral notes, biscuit, bread crust, and light smoke, with good acidity and great persistence. The mousse is fine, smooth, and creamy. Very harmonious, and very long. Consistently great! (1442 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 7/29/2023 & rated 91 points: A private lunch (Restaurant Cantine de Caron, Amsterdam, NL): Half bottle, disgorgement date not disclosed. A blend of 60% Meunier, 30% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir, 40% vin de réserve (kept in barrels on the lees), partial malo, aged for six months on the fine lees, 20 months sur lattes, dosage 8 gr/l. Crisp and minerally core, citrus and limestone, very energetic, lovely generosity and spice from the Meunier, very good resonance and length. (2060 views)
Tasted by cct on 7/28/2023 & rated 92 points: At Frenchie

Lovely nose. Brioche, bright fruits, and deftly done low dosage. Excellent balance and terrific with dinner. (1252 views)
Tasted by qtsam11 on 6/8/2023 & rated 90 points: Run of the mill, right down the fairway. Simple and not overly complex, but easily a crowd pleaser and one that can disappear very quickly. A nice value as well and worth grabbing to have a few on hand. (1546 views)
Tasted by PSPatrick on 4/25/2023 & rated 92 points: New disgorgement date for me, 06'2022. Medium copper-gold. Stemmy floral notes, apple, red berries, light blueberry, shy cherry, lemon, biscuit, bread crust, brioche, marzipan, and light smoke, with good acidity, and great persistence. The mousse is fine and perceived as creamy, and the wine is well-balanced and harmonious. Maybe not yet quite as complete as the 10‘2021 disgorgements I have been drinking lately, but getting there. Great champagne! (1836 views)
Tasted by PSPatrick on 3/10/2023 & rated 92 points: Disgorged 10‘2021. A little lighter-bodied but otherwise consistent with prior bottles: Light reddish gold. Stemmy floral notes, shy mixed berry notes, apple, almond crumble, bread crust, brioche, and a hint of smoke, with underlying minerality, well-integrated acidity, and great persistence. The mousse is fine and creamy. Smoothly textured, harmonious, and long. A beautiful champagne! Very good value. (2098 views)
Tasted by grapenomad on 2/12/2023 & rated 89 points: Red apples and roses, strawberry and marshmallow, yeast. This sings of sweet, gentle song of flavour, start to finish, pleasing throughout without every really elevating itself. If there was an everyday Champagne in the books, this would be THE ONE. (2269 views)
Tasted by Eric Wright on 12/31/2022 & rated 90 points: remains a great QPR (2126 views)
Tasted by NickA on 12/31/2022 & rated 91 points: Plucked from the cellar at short notice, as we'd run out of cold Champagne! Reliably enjoyable, including when slightly warmer in the glass, as its appeal rests more on broad, toffee-ish savoury impact rather than precision or delicacy. Having enjoyed three bottles recently, I'll now leave my remaining three a little longer and pull something else to be our 'house' Champagne for the coming period. (2074 views)
Tasted by Swintonblade on 12/23/2022 & rated 85 points: Pinot meunier dominate, style not really for me. (1802 views)
(1948 views)
Tasted by NickA on 12/10/2022 & rated 91 points: Probably the best bottle of this yet - lots of stuffing and some spice and savour, yet elegantly drinkable. (2001 views)
Tasted by paul195 on 11/24/2022 & rated 90 points: Served alongside the Laherte Freres Ultradition Extra Brut. Most preferred the dryer, brighter extra brut (1994 views)
Tasted by EvoPeteMTL on 11/11/2022 & rated 91 points: This wine reminds me how much I like pinot meunier. Good QPR. (2213 views)
Tasted by NickA on 10/28/2022 & rated 89 points: Disgorged Feb 2019. Solidly put-together Champagne, all in balance, slightly rich although yet to become tertiary. Nice to have some uncomplicated fun and glad to have more. (1940 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 10/20/2022: Definitely on the oxidative side of the spectrum but with some reductive quality particularly at the finish. Nutty apple bread and small to medium bubbles in the mouth. Really nice wine and glad I have another! (2208 views)
Tasted by Thek on 10/15/2022 & rated 91 points: Bruised green apple, lemon blossom, dried apricot, fairly dry with moderate tartness, light brioche finish. Straightforward but really well done. (1890 views)
Tasted by paul195 on 9/30/2022 & rated 92 points: Disgorged 1/2022 6-8g/l dosage. Pretty tight to start, medium mousse, some citrus and crisp apple notes… improved significantly after an hour or so, added some flesh, minerality and balance, nice QPR (1907 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
