Tasted by gzim on 2/4/2024 & rated 88 points: Screw Cap. Wine still alive at almost 10 years old. on the lighter and redder side of Zins. (418 views)
Tasted by jfkwines on 10/30/2023: pop n pour (554 views)
Tasted by ginfizz on 4/25/2023 & rated 93 points: Shockingly complex zinfandel: raspberry jam, plum, prune, red cherry, incense or Indian spices...very subtle. Better the next day! Hedonistic. (816 views)
Tasted by DesMarteau on 3/24/2023: Takes an hour to integrate after opening ….starts with tart bramble berry ….menthol …disjointed . Becomes a jammu fruitbomb with more seemless integration after an hour or 2 (786 views)
Tasted by norzano on 3/1/2023 & rated 92 points: Red fruits on nose and palate. Easy drinker, with a nice rounded medium finish. Has some aging left if you want but super drinkable now. (794 views)
Tasted by GoBlue2002 on 12/29/2022 & rated 92 points: Rich and delicious. (865 views)
Tasted by levinml on 7/18/2022 & rated 91 points: Nice weeknight wine with great flavors and no heavy tannin. Good drinking. (898 views)
Tasted by bergkamp10 on 11/7/2021 & rated 89 points: Drinking well, If a little one dimensional. On the nose, ripe red fruits with hints of licqour, cocoa and kirsch. Medium bodied, slight shallow mouthfeel. On the palate, dominant note of ripe raspberries with hints of blueberries, dark chocolate with hints of earth. Holding up well ! (1174 views)
Tasted by JSolo on 10/8/2021 & rated 90 points: Surprised that it was a screwtop. (1075 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 10/1/2021 & rated 91 points: Smooth and rich with dark fruit and nice finish (1202 views)
Tasted by SchlaepDog on 9/22/2021 & rated 93 points: PNP. Medium dark purple and slightly translucent. Nose is filled vanilla, a potpourri of spices, lavender, tar, and faint red berry.

In the mouth, the wine is quite velvety with no harsh edges. Gobs of red and blackberry fruit envelopes the flavor profile at first, with creamy vanilla oak emerging mid-palette, then a burst of acidity and more Bing cherry and faint raspberry on the medium long finish.

Oh my, this is delicious, balancing the ripe fruit so well with the acidity and oak. I usually don’t like too much vanilla in my wines, but somehow, this works.

This is drinking great right now, but I see this easily going to 2025+ no problem, zero signs of any “over the hill” qualities. (1240 views)
Tasted by PSUSteve on 8/18/2021 & rated 91 points: PnP. This continues to be a smooth red-fruited Zin with a hint of spice. No bramble at all. (1267 views)
Tasted by SpoochMan on 7/19/2021 & rated 90 points: Brought to Mom&Dad's for party. This bottle was solid and enjoyable though not up to the level of a Papera Vineyard we had recently. Last one of these, and I don't bother buying it anymore since the extra $ is worthwhile for the single vineyard zins. (924 views)
Tasted by Quiller on 2/6/2021 & rated 90 points: Apparently some bottle variation compared to prior bottle in January. Poured and let stand about 45 min in glass. This one had sweetish-red fruit on entry that carried through to finish. Nice balance and decent zinfandel taste. 45 min after first taste the fruit was still present on entry, but going a little darker. The finish became a bit astringent/drying, although still with some fruit. I liked it better the first half-hour or so, but still nice. (1176 views)
Tasted by Quiller on 1/12/2021 & rated 90 points: Update on my 1/9 note: Day 2 - Poured and left 1/2 hr in glass. Entry still dark and heavy fruit, but acid lessened. Otherwise, not much change.
Day 3 - Entry not much changed, but acid now well integrated and finish is noticeably red-fruited, smoother and spicier. Balance between entry and finish still a problem, but, on whole, very nice for the money. (1195 views)
Tasted by Quiller on 1/9/2021 & rated 88 points: About 1/2 hr in open glass before tasting. Acid seems to be the most noticeable trait. Some fruit, a bit of zinfandel taste, but not distinct. Not much change over the course of 1hr. (1083 views)
Tasted by alanr on 12/25/2020 & rated 92 points: Fabulous classic Zin nose, with some hints of anise and spice, which carries in to the fairly rich, intense palate, deeply flavored, with nice notes of licorice, pepper, spice, excellent acidity. So tasty, drinking nicely even at this early stage inits life. Tannins are here, but overwhelmed by the fruit intensity and acidity. This should age effortlessly for a long time. (1289 views)
Tasted by JSolo on 11/25/2020 & rated 90 points: Expected this wine to be better. Needs at least 1 hour decant.
Surprised it was a screw top. (1030 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 11/18/2020 & rated 91 points: WIML91

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about 90 minutes.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of monkey glue, currants, plums and black berries. Flavors of black raspberries, cherries and plums. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink over the short term. (1046 views)
Tasted by GoBlue2002 on 9/11/2020 & rated 91 points: Fairly ready to go on PnP, did not need a decant.
Dark fruit, pluk, currant, pepper, briar, earth.
Smooth, some complexity,
Good but lacks rhe umph of other Carlisle zins. (1109 views)
Tasted by levinml on 6/9/2020 & rated 89 points: Not sure what was going on here. First night drank after pinot and burgers and seemed highly acidic and not at all what I expected. Second night more balanced profile, but not what I expect from my big-name zins, even the lower end versions. (1175 views)
Tasted by KlinkandKlank on 6/3/2020 & rated 84 points: Wasn’t what I was hoping for. I guess I overpaid($40) so I had high expectations, since K&L presented it as a huge bargain. I also didn’t realize it was a screw cap bottle. I little small for a Zin. On the fruity side. (1261 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 5/1/2020 & rated 90 points: Nice spicy zin with good sweet dark fruit and balance (1297 views)
Tasted by mdahar on 4/30/2020 & rated 90 points: A great qpr but lacks the complexity of the single vineyard ones. Drank with bbq and great match (1233 views)
Tasted by SpoochMan on 4/26/2020 & rated 90 points: Drinking well now and a good value at $24. Doesn't quite compete with the single vineyard wines, but it was enjoyable (1150 views)

2014 Carlisle Zinfandel Old Vines

Release Letter:
With an average vine age of over 100 years old, it’s tempting to label this wine as “Reserve.” Just look at the vineyards in this wine! All vineyard designates in their own right! Six percent new French oak, the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Tasting Note: This blend boldly collects all the scents and flavors of the Russian River Valley – redwood, cinnamon, rhubarb, red cherry and lifted notes of strawberries and cream. A very harmonious and friendly wine that provides a spicy palate, with hints of Jolly Rancher candy and cranberry. Bottled under screw cap, this is the perfect “go to” Thanksgiving wine. Turkeys beware!

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
