Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.9 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 29 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by steveiiiiii on 11/5/2022 & rated 88 points: Third bottle this year, two previous was more like 85pts based on a very misplaced acidity. This was decent, good balance and decent length but bland. Paired well with tomato soup. (1048 views)
Tasted by Kahnru12 on 11/28/2020 & rated 88 points: Lackluster nose. Weak entry, but satisfactory mid. Paired with food does not seem to improve the flavor profile. Limited finish. But we enjoyed this wine with dipping oil and Italian bread. (2574 views)
Tasted by ttywine on 9/11/2020 & rated 92 points: Cherry, cinnamon, dark peaches, heavy tannins, light vanilla/caramel, medium plus acid (2208 views)
Tasted by Jaber on 4/25/2020 & rated 91 points: Parfait! (2521 views)
Tasted by CondorKhan on 12/26/2019 & rated 90 points: Popped and poured at a Christmas party.

Pours dark garnet with significant bricking at the rim. Looks older than 2012. At first it gave a strong whiff of musty funk, and pretty flat on the palate. I was concerned it was borderline corked, but my friends thought it was perfectly fine. After about an hour it finally came around and the funk blew off, revealing succulent warm cherry fruit and black olives and earth, with a surprisingly strong tannic finish. Glad I stuck with it.  Tasted by GuWin on 5/16/2019 & rated 91 points: Mature, delicious aromas of dark berries and sweet wood. Medium bodied with good grip, dark fruits/berries, good concentration, medium tannins and a quite long, delicate aftertaste of dark berries and spices. (2788 views)
Tasted by retired_and_roving on 4/13/2019: From the wine list at Campagnola (NYC). Pricey wine list here and this seemed like the best option at a 3x markup. Nose of dark berries and earth. Dark fruits with grippy tannin and a strong spine of acid. A wine that requires food. I found it a a bit austere, not something I would seek out again. (1887 views)
Tasted by Christian De Lafoye on 4/2/2019: I enjoyed this classic Chianti. I'm a huge fan of the style and this wine did not disappoint. (1724 views)
Tasted by Stevey on 12/30/2018 & rated 90 points: Tasted the 2015 vintage at Osteria di Passignano Antinori restaurant when we were there and loved it and found the 2012 vintage at our local LCBO store and bought it to try.

It's definitely not as good as the 2015, less fruit, less complexity. Black fruits dominate, mild tannins medium body and it did not get better or worse with more air time. It's still a good wine though but at $50 it's a bit pricey for what you get and I expected a bit better at this price point. (1779 views)
Tasted by olracx62 on 11/6/2018 & rated 92 points: @trattoria Al Fogolare, Brendola, Vicenza. THis chianti riserva is really seductive with its complex aroma and taste, full bodied and with silky texture, really juicy and classy. Hard to find such a wine at this price tag (28 eur in Italy, retail price). Badia a Passignano never falls short. Best paired with tagliatelle with mushrooms and an unparalleled costata. Recommended (1567 views)
Tasted by maxima on 8/15/2018 & rated 89 points: Bu en succ.
Très bon encore une fois, une valeur sure...50$ maintenant, c`est limite.
Beau fruit avec une rasade d`épices sur des tannins veloutés
et une finale longue et suave. Très bon. (1891 views)
Tasted by Camarotto on 6/29/2018 & rated 90 points: Open noise, freshy red fruits and floral aromas, with spice notes after. In mouth, medium body, softy tanins, little high acidity. (1879 views)
Tasted by Mfreni on 3/30/2018: $45 (2310 views)
Tasted by Double-A on 3/20/2018 & rated 93 points: Aromatic, ripe, red berry, leather, red apple and spice nose. Medium bodied, complex and expressive palate. Elegant, well-balanced finish.
4.5/5 (2131 views)
Tasted by cono_sur on 10/26/2017 & rated 92 points: The medium-high intensity nose seems shy, but offers bright cherry, clove, baking spice, and some dried cherry and flower aromas. It's medium-bodied on the palate with very nice aroma replays and smooth, fine tannins. Finely balanced overall with fresh acids. Shows excellent length on the finish with earth and forest floor notes. (1813 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 7/18/2017: Limited notes-dark cherry, tobacco, orange rind, and smooth mouthfeel. complex and rich, This was singing tonight. (2291 views)
Tasted by Kronos(er) on 4/17/2017 & rated 92 points: Very modern in style. Juicy, fleshy yet elegant red with lot of red berries, leather and coffee aromas. Smooth silky tannins, perfect acidity and relatively long aftertaste. Enjoyed with bistecca alla fiorentina in restaurant Buca Lapi in Firenze. Definitely recommended. (2035 views)

Producer Location - Tenuta Tignanello (Google Maps)
The Antinori family has produced wine since 1385 when Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Florentine Winemakers Guild. Throughout its long history (across 26 generations) the family has always managed winemaking in person. Today, the company is managed by Marquis Piero Antinori. The company has dedicated great efforts to improving the quality of its wines, through careful planning of investments and research programs embracing all production aspects. The success of these programs has enabled the company to produce a superb range of quality wines from its various estates in Tuscany and Umbria. The Tignanello Estate is home to the famous Tignanello and Solaia vineyards. Located between the Greve and Pesa Valleys, in the heart of the Chianti Classic area, 30 kilometers south of Florence, Tignanello boasts 350 hectares of land with 147 hectares of vines. The vineyards are divided into small, individual areas over an area of 47 hectares at Tignanello, facing South-West, and the neighboring 10 hectares at Solaia, both with Cabernet and Sangiovese grapes that benefit from specific exposure and micro-climate.

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
