Tasted by dbkitc on 5/29/2023 & rated 90 points: Showed well next to the Kosta Brown. Lifted. Earthy elements mingle with the red fruit. Medium bodied with good persistence. Nice food wine. (90) (403 views)
Tasted by jbaron on 4/2/2023 & rated 92 points: Fruity and dusty. (312 views)
Tasted by bravo.solares on 11/11/2022 & rated 91 points: Lovely mature PN, classic Anthill, true Sonoma Coast. Good acidity, low-ish alcohol, balanced, not highly extracted, food friendly. Paired beautifully with pasta dishes (and fresh white truffles!) at Cotogna. (625 views)
Tasted by dave kammerer on 6/25/2022 & rated 90 points: Still drinking great, nice nose, good fruit (898 views)
Tasted by jbaron on 8/22/2021 & rated 91 points: Drink up. (1557 views)
Tasted by gmbdds on 12/10/2020 & rated 90 points: Cherry fruit, cola and roasted notes. Light and racy mouthfeel. Drink near term. (1681 views)
Tasted by jbaron on 9/7/2020 & rated 92 points: Nice nose. Sharp mouth that’s full of good tastes. Moderate lengths says drink sooner rather than later. (1695 views)
 Tasted by 560 B&W on 11/29/2019 & rated 91 points: Pretty, even in sub-optimal glassware. 13.1% (1986 views)
Tasted by Mbad77 on 11/2/2019 & rated 91 points: Very enjoyable. It’s quite a rich, fruit laden and sweet Pinot but has a good line of acidity with a medium finish. This may well improve with a few more years but is enjoyable and easy to drink with or without food so very much has its place.
I’ll be getting a few more for those days I fancy this style. (1786 views)
Tasted by VenturePlanet on 6/24/2019 & rated 88 points: I had higher expectations, to be honest. Fruit was underwhelming, the finish short. Disconnect between nose and palate. (1789 views)
Tasted by RGCM Gananda on 5/12/2019 & rated 92 points: Prior bottle was almost exactly 13 months ago and my notes were virtually identical. Nose still shows red berry, raspberry, spices, floral notes and the saline quality. Medium bodied and starts out with red berries and red cherry upfront, deepening through the middle with red raspberry, but maintaining balance throughout. Tart red cherry and cranberry on the backside provide balance, contrast and structure. Overall this wine shows very good fruit with depth and nuance and a general elegance that's showing quite well at present. As compared to 2009 Anthill Peters from yesterday (which was much more stemmy and fruit focused), this wine is considerably more in the Anthill style. Should continue to integrate with time and as well as it showed today, I think it does have room for additional positive evolution over the next 12-18 months. As this was my last bottle, I will look for more. (1560 views)
Tasted by ozziewine on 4/19/2019 & rated 94 points: Just terrific. Drinking beautifully today.
Complex, plush, smooth with an earthy cranberry and muddled red fruit essence. Very intriguing aftertaste.
Great on PnP...aeration not necessary.
Should last for years but seems to be in a sweet spot now. (1580 views)
Tasted by Deux Chevaux on 4/2/2019: Approximately 18 months later: Similarly spicy and rather rich, but still all in balance and with good acidity. Highly enjoyable over three nights. (1403 views)
Tasted by mbo1 on 12/28/2018 & rated 92 points: Just a really good CA pinot. Red fruit, pleasant acidity. Very difficult to put down. (1897 views)
Tasted by RGCM Gananda on 4/13/2018 & rated 92 points: Aromatic nose of red berry, raspberry, spices and saline. Showed well immediately upon opening and improved over the next three hours. Medium bodied (13.1% ABV) with a mixture of red berries and red cherry upfront, bringing in rounder raspberry through the middle. Mid-body balance and deep, but soft mouthfeel are both positives. Adds a nicely tart red cherry note towards the back that trails off into cranberry. Structure is acidity based and works quite well with the fruit to produce additional contrasts and complexity. Drinking extremely well at present but has both the fruit and structure to continue to improve over the next 2-3 years and hold that level for several more. This wine, (like all Anthill wines) is all about balance. It has great fruit without being lush or fruit forward and it has the structural elements to match without being too tannic. Worth purchasing a few more bottles. (2305 views)
Tasted by In vino potestus est on 2/4/2018 & rated 93 points: Served @ 65 degrees. Aerated but not decanted. Light purple color. Spicy, gamey fragrance. Rich, ripe cherry, raspberry, prune, pepper palate. Medium body. Long, rich, spicy finish. Paired with roast chicken. Delicious. Better than my last bottle. 93-94 (2188 views)
Tasted by Tetherton on 12/2/2017 & rated 91 points: We enjoy Anthill pinots very much. This was great from the first pour. Typical berry flavor profile with raspberries and cherries, with light acidity. (2213 views)
Tasted by Deux Chevaux on 9/27/2017: Consistent with our prior note and those of most others. This time we also noticed a pleasant saline aspect. This may be our favorite AH bottling over the past few years. Very enjoyable over three nights. (2242 views)
Tasted by Tgood on 8/29/2017 & rated 88 points: Dull medium ruby, nice nose of cranberry/strawberry-edged red fruit and some spice notes; soft tannins and tart acids. Best in near term i think (2163 views)
Tasted by In vino potestus est on 6/4/2017 & rated 93 points: I agree, mostly, with prior notes of others. Strong CA pinot. Fruit forward, nuanced with aging potential. Garnet colored. Fruit forward pinot with cranberry (kudos to prior tasters) and cherry palate with spicy, gamey and earthy palate. Sturdy tanins and good astringency and tang.Medium body. Long finish. Potential for more complexity with 2-3 years of bottle aging. (2057 views)
Tasted by Deux Chevaux on 5/21/2017: Medium ruby. Bright, lively, with a nice touch of earth. Balanced. We agree with the notes below about cranberry. Also we picked up considerable spiciness that we have come to expect, generally across the board, from Anthill. Highly enjoyable over three nights. (1884 views)
Tasted by drdan8 on 4/8/2017 & rated 92 points: What a nicely crafted young Sonoma Pinot. Great nose of tart red cherry, cranberry, earth notes, and inviting peppermint. Light to medium on the palate; you can sense the quality of the young fruit. Taut acidity holds the crunchy cranberry and underripe strawberry flavors in check. A few years horizontal should be kind to this wine allowing it to develop secondary nuance. A light enough profile to pair with both seafood and some poultry. (1857 views)
Tasted by tjbsmf on 4/2/2017 & rated 92 points: Cranberry raspberry herbs. Med-high acidity. Dark fruit but savory and rambunctious. Still young but delicious. (1735 views)
Tasted by eoinhharkins on 11/25/2016: Dam this was good, needs time but showed well, lots of cranberry, dark raspberries red florals and hints of spice, palate seems to have much more fruit than I have come to expect from the producer but with a solid tannic backbone and lots of acidity keeping it in check this shows lots of potential! (2069 views)
Tasted by wineotim on 11/20/2016 & rated 92 points: Wow, great Pinot here, lively cranberry, and plenty of acid in this light bodied but flavorful structured wine. Tasted at B-21. (2284 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
