Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 93.2 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 7 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by AndrewSGHall on 9/22/2022 & rated 93 points: Gorgeous. So rich and unctuous while being precise and bright. Nose of florals as enchanted by Byredo. Then Silvaner minerality and attention-grabbing structure on the palate. Key lime, bay leaf and slight dry Curaçao. Long finish with a recapitulation and a little white strawberry as well as that incredible texture. Beautiful stuff. (683 views)
Tasted by glou.sf on 1/29/2022 & rated 94 points: Very Riesling-like nose, dominated by stone fruit and minerals. It's light and subtle, yet very interesting and really expressed itself more at room temperature. Great acidity with crushed rocks and lemon on the palate. Nice finish. This is a very serious wine with a lot more depth coming through with air. Really lovely and delicious! (917 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 9/16/2018: Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah
Drunk over three days. Clear, pale lemon golden color. Clean, medium- intense and youthful nose with some spices, white pepper, herbs and some ripe pear.
On the palate dry, medium+ acidity, 12,5% abv. Quite closed and locked down. Some vegetables, pear, pepper. Good balance. Hard to rate at this stage. Wait at least 2+ years (currently around 88-89) (1670 views)
Tasted by Burgaddict on 6/30/2017: From 70 year old vines. Step up from the regular Silvaner. Nose as the regular Silvaner, but deeper, sweet, bloodorange, grapefruit. Taste precise, fresh, complex, mineral, very long finish. There is some grassy Sauvignon tone in the mid-palate. Elegant wine. (1983 views)
Tasted by Frank Schneider on 8/7/2016 & rated 93 points: Very Young but also very good. Needed a lot of air . Minerals , flowers ,
not on the fruity side, but yummy and delicious. Wait 2 years !!! (2425 views)

Note that the "Großes Gewächs" do not say so on the label; however, they are in 'Erste Gewächs' bottles.jht

Silvaner

Varietal character (Appellation America)

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)
