Community Tasting Notes (average 91.3 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 10 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Argrath on 4/1/2022 & rated 94 points: Full, lovely and rich nose. Very classic white burg. Oak, nuts, citrus, yellow orchard fruit and gravelly mineral. Perfect balance. Toasty.
Fullish palate with very good balance. Rich and structured. Fresh and acidic backbone. Gravelly mineral. Nuts, oak and yellow orchard fruit. Citrus finish. Very good.
(Very true to its origin higher up on the Puligny slope.) (510 views)
Tasted by ILarsen on 12/28/2019 & rated 91 points: Still a bit disappointed due to the price as my earlier ratings are saying this is nice wine with lots of minimality but had expected more - staying at 91. (1034 views)
Tasted by ILarsen on 8/3/2019 & rated 91 points: Not a lot to add - happy to stay at 91- the wine has clearly opened more up - but not enough to increase the rating. (1104 views)
Tasted by ManhattanBeach on 1/29/2019 & rated 91 points: An evening at 67 Pall Mall: £28/glass at 67 Pall Mall. Loved this. Really luxurious, poised, elegance and finesse. (1308 views)
Tasted by HowardNZ on 1/9/2019: 2018 Burgundy trip: White Burgs at the Bar, Le Bistro de L’Hôtel, Beaune: A better 2015 white Burgundy. Fairly gold coloured. After the initial reduction on opening, a Puligny-typical nose of lemons and limes, chalky minerals, pear, spices and gentle white meadow flowers. On palate, more Meursault than Puligny (not surprisingly, perhaps, for a climat on the Meursault border, in a warmer year). Decent acidity, the citrus here more mandarin or orange than lemon or lime. Real volume and power but a touch broader than I would, ideally, have liked. Also, prominent vanillin oak yet to integrate. Perhaps hold for 2-3 years, but I would not expect this Sauzet to be very long-lived. (1679 views)
Tasted by The Vines That Bind on 8/8/2018 & rated 89 points: Fresh nose of white peach, lychee, and coconut. Pleasantly dry vanilla oak. Not an overwhelming amount of ripe fruit. Palate is both soft and a little short right now. The dry oak seems to dominate without the fruit to round it out. This is a pleasurable and straightforward wine, hard to pick out any nuance right now beyond the dry wood. (1645 views)
Tasted by ILarsen on 8/3/2018 & rated 91 points: I had higher hopes - especially due to the price - but a solid Puligny with lots of minimality - the fruit is citrus and some apple - but I am clearly lacking the finesse, the elegance, the freshness that you can expect to find in these wines. The balance is fine - but for me this wine is a bit closed at the moment - its 91 but it is not a big one. (828 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 3/3/2018: Some Wines from the 2018 La Paulée Grand Tasting of 2015 Burgundy (The Fairmont, San Francisco): All citrus here, less ripe than the Perrières. Rich, sappy, lots of soil, great finishing cling. Somehow, this compensates for the average acidity and is very convincing. (1912 views)
Tasted by Tavastgatan on 8/1/2017 & rated 91 points: ‪Yet again I'm underwhelmed by Sauzet. This should be much better given reputation and price point. (1263 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
