Tasted by Red Sox Fan on 4/21/2024 & rated 95 points: Very nice with a 60 minute decant. Don’t think this will improve much from here. (178 views)
Tasted by Elkcims on 12/1/2023 & rated 96 points: Similar preparation and enjoyment as my entry in June. This edition ~ along with a fatty porterhouse or ribeye ~ is special. (543 views)
Tasted by Elkcims on 6/25/2023 & rated 97 points: 2 hour decant. Just a lovely bottle. Grainy tannin gave way to soft and elegance after another hour. Black currants, dark red cherries, spice, cassis. Such a nice reward for waiting. I'll be on the lookout for more as this is nowhere near peak. (663 views)
Tasted by JP75Wine on 6/21/2023 & rated 98 points: Deep, rich, powerful fruit driven wine. Texture and finish were exceptional. This wine provides a heavy dose of new world style, but does it so well. (558 views)
Tasted by Elkcims on 1/11/2023 & rated 97 points: 3 hour decant. Drank over two days. Lovely wine. BTK vineyard wines always impress. Sexy, bold creme de cassis, blueberry preserves, chocolate covered cherries, opulent texture. (788 views)
Tasted by kennyg on 10/14/2022 & rated 96 points: Wow! This is rich. Understand why this is the top parcel in Napa. Not sure this will improve as it is a fruit forward pleasure but enough structure to not be plumby. (875 views)
Tasted by Elkcims on 1/16/2022 & rated 97 points: Decanted 3 hours and rebottled, left open for another hour. Full bodied, blueberry pie, blackberry, sandalwood, creme de cassis, plush tannins, opulent. Saved half in a split overnight in the frig and slow-ox 2 hours before dinner. Even better on 2nd night. Very seductive opulent 45 second finish. Pure Beckstoffer Tokalon perfume. Will only get better from here. (1342 views)
Tasted by Geaux Tigers on 10/8/2021: PnP, good from the start. Insert typical BTK profile here, but add a wintergreen mint note. Some loved it some found it distracting. First time I’ve sensed it in a BTK wine. Good not great. Last bottle, no regrets opening at the young age of seven. (1646 views)
Tasted by Tonythefish on 9/20/2020 & rated 95 points: Must decant due to high sediment. Wine had a great nose and lots of dark fruit, cassis, light smoke and bright floral notes. Opened even more in the glass over the 45 minutes in it, with even some leather scents. Medium to long finish (1936 views)
Tasted by joshabramson on 5/23/2020 & rated 96 points: Really great juice. Big, bold, delicious... approachable now, better with air. (1730 views)
Tasted by PJB06221996 on 5/23/2020 & rated 94 points: Overall great but a little to fruit forward for me. Maybe to much plum but very smooth and flavorful. Have a few more bottles. Will let them sit a few more years till trying again. (1722 views)
Tasted by SMHalps on 12/22/2019 & rated 94 points: Opened but not decanted at a NYC Steakhouse with my wine group. For most of us, it was the WOTN. For me, as the youngest wine of the night, it was just too fruit forward to be my favorite. I didn't think it went well with the food. It was more Blueberry Pie than Blueberry. I do think it will improve greatly over the next few years, and eventually come near WA's 97 point rating. But for now, it was a "drink on its own wine." Other notes: Full bodied, long finish, some spice notes hiding behind the fruit. (1802 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 8/16/2019 & rated 96 points: Decanted and let rest for a few minutes before pouring and tasting a little bit of it. Amazingly beautiful nose and a taste of cocoa powder. Will try it later with diner. (93-95)
A bit later. The cocoa powder is gone and sweet dark red fruit flavors about in a complex swirl.Fantastic wine that offers a great mouthfeel and after taste. (1817 views)
Tasted by TJ1967 on 4/20/2019 & rated 98 points: Rich full throttle cabernet, splash decanted but it didnt really need it ready to go right off the bat. drank along side a 2014 Carter fortuna both drinking ridiculously well. if you own either of these go ahead and open with confidence. Cheers! (1688 views)
Tasted by TomOfCT on 4/6/2019 & rated 95 points: Wonderful fruits. Softer structure than I anticipated. (1592 views)
Tasted by cablover123 on 2/10/2019 & rated 97 points: Decanted for three hours. I felt like a bloodhound as I kept going over and smelling it during the decant. Black cherries, blackberries, spice and chocolate. A finish that that lingers for a full minute.

We enjoyed with steak and the wine cut beautifully thru the fat. My son's girlfriend typically does not enjoy reds and she kept sipping on his glass. My son stated "Oh great, this is the level of reds she likes". lol (1819 views)
Tasted by bplant13 on 2/3/2019 & rated 97 points: Decanted for 2 hours. A special wine! An evolving nose of blue raspberry, followed by floral notes, vanilla and spices. Big body with a dark fruit, licorice, leather. Moderate tannins and edgy acidity. A ton of fun to drink in its youth, but this should smooth out and continue to amaze for decades. (1537 views)
Tasted by msuwine on 10/31/2018 & rated 97 points: This incredible wine is absolutely singing right now, with fruit that is outrageously ripe and wonderfully balanced. (Yes, this is a wine that inspires adjectives.) This reminds me of a young Myriad GIII with more structure and more chocolate - so, in two words, incredibly good.

Dark purple in color and full in body, the wine offers aromas of black cherry, blueberry pie, rosemary, and baking spices. (Really, you can't smell this and not think Napa Cabernet.) Lovely and layered tastes of blackberry tart, dark chocolate, leather, and anise, with a lingering finish that has dusty and sweet tannins. 15.5% alcohol. Decant at least an hour, in order to let some of the sugariness blow off. It was drinking beautifully the second day.

This is an impeccably made modern Cabernet, which achieves a level of concentration and intensity that is almost unmatched among 2014 wines. This wine has an incredible amount of fruit, which at times made me wonder - is it too much? To each his own, and I wouldn't begrudge someone who found this to be too ripe. For me, though, this wine was thrilling: in addition to fruit, this has structure; this has balance; and this is absolutely delicious. No rush on drinking, since it's in the window - but the window should last at least 3-5 years. (3330 views)
Tasted by iamandyc on 9/6/2018 & rated 97 points: Memorable wine. The nose filled the room upon opening with sweet red fruit and flowers. Decanted for 2 -3 hours which brought balance and redder fruit profile. Great depth to the fruit that shined brightly though the long finish. Some spiciness, minerality, red licorice, tobacco notes are present. (1751 views)
Tasted by Badmonkey on 7/29/2017 & rated 97 points: Dark black fruit with a touch of red - blackberry and black currants with a little raspberry and dark cherry. Smooth mid-palate coupled with nice depth and purity. Full/vibrant flavors of dark berries and some spice. As usual, a little rich. Nice long/deep finish. Decanted for two hours and drank over another three. Improved with time but drinking quite well after the decant. Surprisingly approachable at this stage despite its youth. According to the winemaker, "what makes this wine so remarkable is just how broad its drinking window will be. This will be amazing on release and likely never shut down." However, I'm still inclined to let this vintage lay down for another year or two to let the fruit soften and open-up a little more. Probably my favorite vintage of this wine that I've had so far. 100% cab. (4247 views)
Tasted by csimm on 8/27/2016 & rated 98 points: Tor Kenward Premier Tasting Event at Meadowood (Meadowood Resort, Napa): Hands down the best wine of the fifteen Tor wines sampled during the tasting event. Even more captivating than the Black Magic (the "Reserve" BTK). Unbelievable intensity and depth, kicking out everything I tend to love about To Kalon. Primarily black fruit driven, with awesome complexity and layer upon layer of tiered, meaty fruit framed with a seamless minerality. A great personality of a wine, exploding with flavor. Reminded me of the 2014 Carter OG.

Specific notes of black and red fruits, black currant, blackberry, black and deep red raspberry liqueur, asphalt, slate, earth, cassis, and some spice. A lot going on here, especially for such a youngster. Incredibly sweet tannins. Depth and mid-palate were extraordinary. 60 second+ finish; not clipped in any way.

97-100 point potential in my opinion. Give it a year or two to settle into itself, but drinks pretty damn fine now. As Jeff Ames stated, "You can drink this wine in a year, or you could drink it in 10 years. Either way, you won't be disappointed." I suspect he is right! This will be one of the best 2014 Napa Cabernets of the vintage. (6610 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard

Beckstoffer To Kalon continues to receive worldwide accolades for its wines, particularly in the last decade. The vineyard is on a gentle slope on the western foothills of the Oakville appellation. Soils are Bale loam/Bale clay loam, and are impeccably farmed by Andy Beckstoffer’s team. We have a by-acre contract so we can determine canopy, crop load and picking dates – but rely on the Beckstoffer viticulturists for insight into this unique vineyard to guide our decisions. ... ©2012 Tor Kenward Family Wines

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
