Tasted by ogres3 on 2/15/2024 & rated 92 points: Pure deliciousness. One of the best zins around. (527 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 12/3/2023 & rated 92 points: Held up well after being pivoted, had with a beef soup, on the lighter side for Zinfandel but has good complexity and balance. Otherwise similar to previous recent notes (831 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 11/7/2023 & rated 91 points: Dark red, menthol, savory soy, cedar and dark fruits on the nose, on the palate there is red and black fruit, big but not too big, nice acidity, with a long tart finish. (969 views)
Tasted by t_moderne on 6/25/2023: This bottle was opened, a glass poured out, and then let to sit for an hour before tasti8ng.
Dark purple color.
Nose offers dark fruits and some black pepper notes. Hint of tobacco and earth.
Nice fruit but with a tart almost bitter note on the initial taste and then opens up to show the dark fruit. Blueberries and blackberries with a peppery note on the finish.
The tart element was a bit of a distraction, unfortunately. (1275 views)
Tasted by markcic on 5/26/2023 & rated 92 points: A very nice wine consumed over two nights. Dark berries, cherry, bramble and hints of spice on the finish which was moderate to long. (1246 views)
Tasted by indiscriminate palate on 8/11/2022: Blackberry, raspberry, bramble on the nose. Full bodied. Very soft tannin. Medium(-low) acid. Raspberry on the palate. Drinking well now, not sure it will improve. (1932 views)
Tasted by kosdogger on 6/2/2022 & rated 93 points: In a great spot- it's a real mix of red and blue fruits. Tannins are really soft and there is a good tension to this wine. This wine would please a lot of crowds as it is super easy to drink and the fruit is excellent. Glad I sat on a few and waited to open (1862 views)
Tasted by matiasox@gmail.com on 4/23/2022 & rated 93 points: Nose: bramble, baking spices, blackberry pie, blueberry, sage, forest floor, palate: blackberry, cocoa, minerals, medium tannins, full body (1712 views)
Tasted by tomlee on 4/15/2022 & rated 92 points: Purple in color. 14.5% ABV. Brooding nose of red and black fruits, plums and cocoa. Medium body with medium acidity. Claret style Zinfandel with primary fruits and great balance. Soft and approachable. Black cherry, blackberry, anise and pepper on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Old school Zinfandel that will likely age well but there is a lot to like here right now. Best over the next 2-4 years. (1673 views)
Tasted by JERB on 2/4/2022 & rated 93 points: 2015 Pagani Bedrock & Ridge; 2/4/2022-2/5/2022 (At the house of dear friends): Excellent! Last tasted this wine in November of 2018. At that time I suggested that it needed patience - either a long decant or let it sit in the bottle for a while. 3+ years in the bottle since then has been very beneficial for this wine! Tonight it was decanted for 1.5 hours.

The first sip was a bit tart, it had a bite to it, but that mellowed out pretty quickly. What impressed us was the range and depth of flavors. Musical metaphor: This wine was an ensemble of a variety of instruments all combining to create a beautifully balanced performance. It had lots of different layers: dark berries, some brighter red berries, a sense of spiciness, just a lot of wonderful things going on! (2005 views)
Tasted by RobbieC on 2/4/2022: Lovely! Drinking well now. (1616 views)
Tasted by Bozekt on 12/4/2021 & rated 92 points: Deep and rich, yet still elegant and with the lift that I feel Bedrock Zins are known for. Brooding nose of blackberries, black plum, spice box, and red currant. Long and silky palate shows same flavors with notes of black pepper and dried herbs. ABV med-plus, acid med, tannin med at best. Fabulous with coffee-rubbed BBQ ribs! (1731 views)
Tasted by cdebeau on 11/13/2021 & rated 95 points: Deep, dark color, smooth finish, black and blue fruit. Amazing wine (1563 views)
Tasted by Rick 4 Wine on 8/12/2021 & rated 92 points: Excellent Zin with great fruits does better with about 20 minutes of time in the glass. Paired nicely with some BBQ chicken but also was accessible enough to sit down with and sip after dinner. (2156 views)
Tasted by adnorthup on 7/20/2021: Almost 6 hours decanted by the time we got around to it. Very dark, giving to the mixed blacks (e.g. Alicante). Super aromatic with dark red fruit and spice. Last bottle a few years (4?) ago felt a bit weighty m, but that’s faded a bit. Loads of acid over the dense fruit flavor, spice is still there. First sip feels a bit hot but that goes away once the mouth is coated. (2020 views)
Tasted by Craig15 on 5/28/2021: Darker fruit than most Bedrock Heritage blends. Lots of structure. Still big tannin and acid. Definitely going to give my other bottle several years of rest. (1871 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 5/25/2021 & rated 92 points: Quite good, very solid blend. Full bodied, purple fruit, may be a little hot. Lush finish. (1835 views)
Tasted by ephorn on 5/21/2021 & rated 95 points: Dense impenetrable purple with a full pour. Sweet kumquat? Pudding on nose for me. Oodles of balance and cola notes right off the bat on front palate. Some heat in the finish was probably amplified by the spicy food I was having with it. Powerful mid palate full of sappiness flavor and energy, medium plus tannins. Another MTP gem! (1695 views)
Tasted by swigna on 4/24/2021 & rated 92 points: Perfectly balanced lovely wine. On the sweet side but not overly so. (1742 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 2/28/2021 & rated 91 points: May have had high expectations as this is compared to Carlisle, Ridge, Outpost...
Pleasant, full-bodied, enjoyable but didn't wow me. (1873 views)
Tasted by cdebeau on 12/26/2020 & rated 94 points: Smooth, velvet tannins with long finish. Dark, medium bodied, black fruit. (1951 views)
Tasted by adnorthup on 12/17/2020 & rated 94 points: Opened for the HVS Pagani virtual tasting. Decanted 3+ hours before first pour. Really really dark color, I assume because of the Alicante B and petite sirah. Still pretty tough tannins up front, but definitely more resolves than a bottle a year ago. Really nice dark fruit on the outside of the tongue at first, that gets followed by some really nice vibrant blue fruits. Finish is nice and long, with an acidic streak. Everything I love about Pagani, but feel like this one needs a number of years to start peaking. (1908 views)
Tasted by westcoastwannabe on 11/15/2020 & rated 90 points: Decanted for 2 hours. Dark fruit and pepper on the nose. Great balance of fruit, spice, and a solid acid backbone. Good depth and finish. 90-91. (1942 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 11/5/2020 & rated 94 points: Well done, great depth but not overly extracted. (2216 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 10/29/2020 & rated 93 points: This was terrific with lasagne. Not over the top. Drinking well now. Balanced extraction, acidity (1976 views)

2015 Bedrock Wine Co. Heritage Wine Pagani Ranch

From the release newsletter

2015 Pagani Ranch Heritage Wine, Sonoma Valley

There is a reason this ranch is well-known, as the wines are wonderful and distinct. Pagani Ranch always seems to be the largest-scale and darkest Heritage Wine we make. It could be the ashy soils, or the hot days and cold nights of Kenwood, or the high percentage of Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet and other teinturiers varieties, but the 2015 is no exception to the rule. Deep, opaque purple in color, the wine possesses many mysteries that time will reveal. Despite its weight, the wine is nicely balanced by fresh acidity. If you have this alongside the Monte Rosso (also on this release) you would be hard-pressed to guess that the vineyards are only a few miles from each other—as Monte Rosso is all about perfume and mountain fruit elegance and this is about density and power. The Taft to Monte’s Teddy. $39

Pagani Ranch

The old Pagani Ranch on the east side of Sonoma Valley. 100-year-old zinfandel, petite sirah, alicaante, mataro, and carignane vines.

(Fall 2012 Ridge Wine Club notes:)

Since 1991, Ridge has made zinfandel from the old Pagani vineyard on the east-facing side of the Sonoma Valley. All the vines were planted 90 to 115 years ago.

This is a fine example of what we look for in a vineyard: low-yielding old vines, carefully tended by a quality-conscious family who, in this case, have worked the land for four generations.

The climate here is generally cooler than at Lytton Springs.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Sonoma County

Mendocino County

Sonoma Valley

Sonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.

Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries.
