Tasted by blackbrownbeige on 4/23/2024: This is drinking very well - it's lovely and elegant with the savoury, sous-bois character nicely framed by a solid core of dark red and purple fruits. A really nice mineral/crushed rock streak runs through it from start to finish, too. You could keep it for quite awhile longer if you wanted more of the the botanical notes to come to the forefront, but I feel it's really quite balanced now with just the right amount of grip.  Tasted by SirJ on 1/21/2024 & rated 95 points: Had this vintage two years ago, Mount Eden Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 and it was evan better now then 2021. Wonderful fruit, cassis, black currants, leather and dark chocolate. But an elegance that reflects the Santa Cruz Mountains, nice acidity with wonderful tannins. Drinks perfectly now but will last for many more years. Drink or hold! (760 views)
Tasted by Bryanb2002 on 9/15/2023 & rated 96 points: Drinking fantastic at the moment. A great blend of red fruit with herbaceous forest floor accents resulting from age. Really good. (1096 views)
Tasted by Mike Dildine on 8/20/2023 & rated 95 points: Deep, rich, balanced and complex now. Should continue to hold well over the next decade. (1126 views)
Tasted by Slaz on 7/2/2023 & rated 94 points: Drinks splendidly right now with brief decanting. (1201 views)
Tasted by Mike Dildine on 2/15/2023 & rated 96 points: This wine is absolutely soaring right now. Bright, intense, impeccably balanced. Sensational. (1606 views)
Tasted by bgrimm on 10/3/2022 & rated 93 points: Just one word: Green peppers … After a 1h decant they were absolutely dominant. Besides this quite cool and elegant - reminded us of a 1994 Montrose we had recently.

Still very young, better cellar for some years or decent for some hours. (1669 views)
Tasted by unrelenting on 2/17/2022 & rated 94 points: Santa Cruz, the most under appreciated AVA in CA. Big nose, but not a lot of alcohol. moderate tanning, great acidity. already a 30 second finish with plenty of runway to improve. (2860 views)
Tasted by SirJ on 12/17/2021 & rated 94 points: Mount Eden Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 is magical right now. Wonderful fruit, cassis, black currants, leather and dark chocolate. But an elegance that reflects the Santa Cruz Mountains, nice acidity with wonderful tannins. Drinks perfectly now but will last for many more years. (2939 views)
Tasted by Mike Dildine on 10/29/2021 & rated 97 points: 14% abv. Dark ruby-red, very aromatic. On the palate, cassis, blackberry jam, ripe plum, graphite, leather and a touch of mint. Great cab typicity. Very deep and layered, great length and mouthfeel. Fabulous now and it is no doubt still improving. A stunning cab, simply delicious! (3261 views)
Tasted by magyarsvensk on 5/1/2021: Black cherry, morning fog, wet paint, raspberry, lemon peel. Light weight and wispy, but very satisfying. Still a decent amount of grip. Open, but not mature. I would continue to hold. (2942 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 11/12/2020 & rated 91 points: Courtesy of tlv, popped and poured with the others. Dark inky color. Vanilla, buttery popcorn, and black cabernet fruit. Full-bodied with firm tannins. Flavors of clay and black fruit. Green notes similar to those of the '15 emerge as this unfurls with time in the glass. Right now this is driven by the oak and needs time in the cellar to round into form. Hold until 2025+ at the very least. (3044 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 11/6/2020: Big black fruit on the nose. This underlayment of super black fruit but then earth and just bare hints of green. That is multi-layered and awesome. And the palate is generous but lifted. Darn is that good. (2775 views)
Tasted by Slaz on 10/31/2020 & rated 94 points: Tremendous; old-world style. But also ridiculously young and shy. Several hours of decanting helped reveal exceptional energy, mineral and earthy streaks, with lots of clay and red berry notes. Much joy, especially in further expectation. (2458 views)
Tasted by DavilaDC on 5/22/2020 & rated 95 points: Tonight's bottle was consistent with my previous note.

It needs 30-45 minutes of air before you can even think of enjoying this bottle. (2745 views)
Tasted by Slaz on 5/13/2020: Young and raw, even on second day. Hold. (2175 views)
Tasted by hrazdiiv on 4/19/2020 & rated 89 points: A disappointment. The notes on this say drink 2023-2043. I can tell you there is no way this wine is making it to the 2040s. As other reviewers note, the nose on this is fairly nice, some nice California fruit with judicious use of oak. However, this does not follow up in terms of structure. Decent red/dark fruits on the approach with black current being dominant but there is a beam of acidity creeping in without any secondary elements that suggests the fruit selection wasn't strong this year. Finishes a bit thin, short-medium finish. A well regarded winemaker, I may have to try again - but this did not impress. (2076 views)
Tasted by Eriklainen on 11/24/2019: Really silky and densely packed but not overextracted. Had next to Certan de May 2012 and they had those silky tannins in common. Real nice. Found slightly floral notes in this one which made it stand out. Can probably do many years in the cellar. (2777 views)
Tasted by magyarsvensk on 11/7/2019: Violets, berry candies, jam, vanilla bean, toasted coconut. Markedly tropical sensation of sweetness. Unique and well-executed. (2803 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 10/16/2019 & rated 93 points: A small tasting pour, this wine was surprisingly accessible to me albeit with rich red fruit and evident oak. It seems like a classic Napa cab that needs to shed its fruit and oak. (2521 views)
Tasted by G_H on 10/13/2019 & rated 94 points: Lush, fruit forward and opulent. Quite approachable now, but has the backbone for a very long life. Love this wine! (2414 views)
Tasted by 3daywinereview.com on 10/10/2019 & rated 93 points: 2019 Hennepin Lake Charity Event (Minneapolis, MN): Top five wine at the tasting. Pepper, dark fruits, stone, rose petals and cigar. Medium to long finish. A young wine with some serious age ability potential. 93 to 95. 93+ (2914 views)
Tasted by jps3@columbia.edu on 9/21/2019 & rated 89 points: Beautiful nose on this SC cab. Still a little young but after several hours it's beginning to come together nicely. Will wait another year before opening my next bottle. (1810 views)
Tasted by soon.wine on 6/30/2019 & rated 92 points: Fruity, medium bodied, fine tannins. Drink now. (2073 views)
Tasted by despore on 6/19/2019 & rated 93 points: Lovely Santa Cruz mountains Cabernet, so well made, balanced, complex, elegant, fantastic mouthfeel. Needs 3-4 hours air to really come into its own but very approachable given its young age. Cedar box, black cherry, graphite. Fine tannins. Will certainly get some more and see how it is in 5 years. Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Santa Cruz Mountains

Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Association | Wikipedia

Once referred to by wine writers as the Chaine d'Or -- or "golden chain" -- the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA sits above Silicon Valley, running along the craggy range next to the Pacific on some of the prettiest parts of Northern California. The area supports more than 75 wineries, despite being limited by geography and high land prices.

In 1981 the Santa Cruz Mountains Viticultural Appellation became federally recognized, one of the first American viticultural areas to be defined by geophysical and climatic factors. The appellation encompasses the Santa Cruz Mountain range, from Half Moon Bay in the north, to Mount Madonna in the south. The east and west boundaries are defined by elevation, extending down to 800 feet in the east and 400 feet in the west.
