Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.1 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 19 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by MJReb on 6/25/2023 & rated 91 points: From a rich year, citrus (more on the orange side), stony with a high salinity. Drinking well, but will become more compact and shred its baby fat with some years of additional cellaring, reminds me on 2009, which are excellent now 91+ (683 views)
Tasted by Wadham Cellar on 2/18/2023 & rated 92 points: Really interesting. Not typical but, with time, not atypical either. Medium gold. A bit fat at first, but with air the chablis structure reasserted itself. Some tropical notes but with linearity. Evolving in the glass throughout. Interesting to see where this goes. (823 views)
Tasted by Lehto on 7/9/2022 & rated 91 points: This wasn't like I would have expected a Chablis. A lot less steely minerality and acidity but more warm and creamy.

The note was rather tropical with a bit of ripe peach, citrus, yellow pear, white flowers, some wet stone and a bit of sea breeze.

Palate was slightly warm and rounded and less acidity than I was expecting - and love. Yellow apple, yellow pear, ripe peach, caramelized pineapple, some citrus fruit peels (from some sweeter citrus fruits), the white flowers again and a beautiful saline minerality. Slight creamy butter feel as well.

I don't know if it's the vintage or the style but I was just looking for more acidity to kick me in the face with a bit more freshness and lively playful unripe notes. (1412 views)
Tasted by nzinkgraf on 12/10/2021: Lots of pineapple called out by Nick.
Not as stoney mineral, as it is seashells on the palate. Rounder than angular. And a generously styled wine with initial maturity showing, makes you wonder how long it’s got, but it’s also got something to the palate that could into something or another down the road. definitely one for more investigation.  Tasted by jfpwine on 7/9/2021 & rated 92 points: Crisp and mineral nose with a hint of tropical fruit. Sharp and crisp on the palate, definitely with a bit more opulence than the 2014, probably due to the vintage. Long finish. Delicious. (1710 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 5/14/2021 & rated 92 points: Online Blind Tasting: Limestone soil - Riesling and Chardonnay: Wine was filled into 0,1l bottle three days before. Tasting note is based on ~ 5cl tasted blind and ~ 5cl the day after.
Glass: Zalto Universal
Clear, medium golden color. Clean, rather muted and closed notes. Some pear, fine oak, delicate sea shells.
Dry, medium+ acidity. 13% abv. Medium body. Dominated by limestone, delicate fruit (yellow fruit, lime, pear) in the background. This wine requires focus and attention. Very fine and elegant, lean, develops tension over time. Long, salty finish. Still painfully young, needs 3-5+ years. 92++ (1801 views)
Tasted by KTelaak_Buffalo on 7/19/2020 & rated 93 points: Full flavored. Slightly less acidic than expected. Still all the classic characteristics of Chablis. Excellent. (1508 views)
Tasted by Diane (LI) on 7/3/2020: Fatter with less cut than most vintages but still quite nice. More Apple than citrus but it worked well with our fried Ipswich clams. (1311 views)
Tasted by jnewman77 on 4/5/2020: I disagree with some notes here in that this was quite typical of Chablis and my prior experiences with Sechet. The nose is subtle initially and then shows lovely mineral, saline drenched orchard fruit, high toned floral notes, and oyster shells. The palate is fresher than anticipated for the vintage with lovely lift and no hint of heaviness at all. Delicious with crab risotto. (1126 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 2/28/2020 & rated 89 points: Wines Tasted at HDH Auction; 2/28/2020-2/29/2020 (Spiaggia - Chicago IL): Ripe apple with a richness I would never associate with Chablis. For me this is a better glass of Chardonnay than it is a good Chablis, given barely/ faint signs of mineral/ oystershell/ saline character. Much more 2015 than anything else. (1694 views)
Tasted by jfpwine on 7/29/2019 & rated 92 points: Lemon color. Crisp apple, lemon and stone. Medium+ body with a long finish. More opulent than usual, I assume it’s the vintage. Excellent nonetheless. (1115 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 10/27/2018 & rated 88 points: not good, not a rebuy, might be youth of the bottle but won't rebuy for sure... had with the '16 bottling too and that was the same (not good) (1004 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 8/13/2018: NR as this was very young and hard to assess, and with the '16 and depending on the night (we had these over three nights) one would outdo the other, both wines felt a little heavy on the minerals and non-fruit side, wondering if the fruit was simply sleeping... hard to assess and not immediately compelled to go out and load up (as I did on this wine in '10 and '12)... we will see but sitting on my hands for now (1024 views)
Tasted by beatles on 6/6/2018 & rated 92 points: Very young, yet accessible - due to the warm vintage, I guess; tell tale notes of smoke, minerals, honey and abundant fruit.

Tasted by Zweder on 4/17/2018 & rated 93 points: Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow" #028 Chablis (by DJ): Beautiful and complex bouquet with minerals and tropical fruit flavors. On the palate a well structured wine with impressions of honey, tropical yellow fruits, passion fruit, caramel and beautiful minerals. Good and fresh acidity and a good length. 92 - 93 (1313 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 4/28/2017: Visit to Domain Vincent Dauvissat-2015 Chablis (Chablis, France): Strong iodine and seashell. Rounder, slightly glycerine entry that then gives way to a lean finish with spicy herbal tones and raging minerality. Absolutely classic. Sechet is never generous, and this was true to form, even in this year that produced some pretty rich wines. Truly a Chablis for Chablis lovers, and a bit of a throwback to days gone by. Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
