Tasted by dfcrutcher on 3/9/2024 & rated 92 points: Classic Pride. Deep, rich, black fruit, smooth and full bodied. But lacks the acidic bite that balances all that fruit. Still, very nice wine. (173 views)
Tasted by dfcrutcher on 9/17/2022 & rated 94 points: Smooth and balanced. Soft tannins with muted currant. Very nice Merlot. Medium+ weight. Performs well through all mouth stages, including a soft yet powerful finish. Nice job. (841 views)
Tasted by Mortgage92 on 2/19/2022 & rated 89 points: DRINK NOW! (1021 views)
Tasted by Mortgage92 on 10/20/2021 & rated 92 points: Nothing new to add to my previous comments (1100 views)
Tasted by Mortgage92 on 8/15/2021 & rated 90 points: Drink now! Medium body with moderate finish. Aromas of black fruit along with flavors of the same. The tannins and acidity are well balanced and that is what saves this wine. Dark rich color. I, personally, do NOT think this wine will last another 3 years, but what do I know? I am surprised that the wine is "breaking down" this early. I have other CA merlots of this vintage and they hold, but the terroir is more Napa than the "summit" of Sonoma / Napa. (1144 views)
Tasted by moxielady on 3/26/2021 & rated 95 points: Well Balanced, very pretty w floral notes. (1282 views)
Tasted by dfcrutcher on 6/6/2020 & rated 93 points: Nice soft tannins, mocha, big mouthfeel, medium to medium+ weight.
Should decant. I did not, and the first glass was unremarkable. Wine grew in complexity and softened as it warmed up and breathed. (1235 views)
Tasted by ashikoh on 7/20/2018 & rated 94 points: Medium dark ruby violet hue. Aromas of blackberry, cocoa powder, and pencil lead with ripe, concentrated dark fruit on the palate and medium length finish. Full bodied with sweet, velvety tannins and 14.5% alcohol. Made from a blend of 87.9% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 0.1% Petit Verdot aged in 40% new French oak. $85. (2007 views)
Tasted by Todd Wino 50701 on 4/14/2018 & rated 93 points: Outstanding. Subtle nose. Never disappoints. (1677 views)

Merlot

Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
