| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.2 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 100 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Old School Fan on 10/29/2022 & rated 91 points: Another great bottle of Ridge. Distinctively Ridge - brambly fruit, American oak, easy to drink. Still has some years to go in my opinion. (1165 views) | | Tasted by ploher on 6/11/2022: Thought this to be more on the red than black fruits than last time. But the essence is the same. Amazing wine for your buck. Flavorful, but elegant, full bodied, but never overboarding. Clean, precise, polished, Ridge. Great. 17/20 (1428 views) | | Tasted by wchrisw on 11/23/2021: I gave this an hour in the glass before drinking over next 3 hours. Plums, light in body, red fruits. I had the 2014 which was lovely a few months back. This was decent. It can still hold for a few more years but I do not see an upside in doing so. . (2057 views) | | Tasted by MikeLovesRed on 10/26/2021 & rated 96 points: Drink now. Absolutely incredible. (2304 views) | | Tasted by Thomas D on 10/19/2021 & rated 90 points: Medium purple color; sweet black cherry , menthol and anise nose; smooth, well integrated tannins with persistent fruit on the finish. Very enjoyable to drink. It needed some time to open up. (2207 views) | | Tasted by chatters on 8/21/2021: This proved pleasingly plummy and fresh, the oak less dominant than the last bottle I had. Nice. (2019 views) | | Tasted by chatters on 6/5/2021: 4th Annual 7 Deadly Zins (well, 24 this time) (Ben and Estella's place, Parramatta): From Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas of plums, sweet spice, a little bread yeast, raisins, cherry. Savoury, wood tannins are chalky and the fruit plays second fiddle. Hmm (1931 views) | | Tasted by Oberunter-5 on 5/13/2021 & rated 87 points: Big, boozy nose of toasted vanilla, black currants, and cloves. Palate matches it, but is on the jammier side—black fruits, maybe a little raspberry too, given how tart they are. That tartness and alcoholic heat linger. In my opinion, this is a wine you need to pair with the proper dinner (bbq, meatloaf, etc.). The tannins are chalky; there is nice acidity. Food helps by reducing the impact of the former— (1359 views) | | Tasted by wdcwineguys on 3/12/2021 & rated 91 points: PNP, opened at cellar temp. Expressive nose of black cherry, pipe smoke, dusty gravel. Full bodied, medium+ finish. A little heat from the alcohol, but right now this wine is in a great place and very enjoyable. This would pair well with BBQ and grilled meats. (1619 views) | | Tasted by ploher on 2/17/2021: Fresh bramble, cassis, a bit (raspberry?) jam, mint, some chalky minerality here as well; cool fruit, very fresh, polished, concentrated without ever feeling heavy, this screams Ridge all over the place. A step (or two) behind the Geyser and Lytton Springs in terms of depth and complexity for sure, but god, if this isn't absolutely delicious as well. Fantastic QPR. 16.5+/20 (1582 views) | | Tasted by Brian of Mull on 10/27/2020 & rated 90 points: Opened for 3 hours. Color: Deep garnet. On the nose: Cassis, vanilla, a bit of sour cherry. On the palate: Blackberries, cassis, vanilla, and lots of spice. Good acidity. A bit less density in the mouth than I would have thought. Drinks easily. Good wine. (2019 views) | | Tasted by Fine wine Lad on 10/5/2020 & rated 92 points: Big wine with a big Tannins and acidity that slightly over power the fruit here. The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like red currant, raspberry, vanilla, oak and barnyard. It tastes like black currant (cassis), raspberry, apple and vanilla. The body is full. The wine has coarse texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has high acidity. This is definitely a wine to have with food something meaty and rich that will balance the Acid. For my taste I think it could do with another year in the cellar to mellow and become more balanced. Interesting and complex but not rounded enough yet for my taste. (1890 views) | | Tasted by Bryan49 on 10/4/2020 & rated 91 points: Served with smoked Baby Back Ribs. Drinking really well. Notes of red and black fruit. Blackberry and licorice on the palate. Long smooth finish. May get better but great now. (1783 views) | | Tasted by rexmerlot on 7/26/2020 & rated 90 points: Dark purple in colour. Notes of blackberry, spice and licorice. Great wine (1972 views) | | Tasted by GofastTommy on 7/24/2020 & rated 94 points: Blodröd inte helt klar.
Stor, komplex doft av mörk frukt. Körsbär, vinbär. Inslag av choklad och vanilj.
Fruktig, fyllig och balanserad smak av skogsbär. Sötfruktig. Stor fyllighet, medel+ tanniner (fina silkiga) och hög syra.
Lång, varm och elegant, bärig eftersmak. (1702 views) | | Tasted by paintinginacave on 7/11/2020 & rated 86 points: Drank over three days. An opaque, deep purple core fading to a deep ruby outer edge. High viscosity. Nose a little closed initially and rather simplistic. With time the wine developed a lush, highly concentrated core of baked black fruits, blackberry, blackcurrant, mulberry, black cherry, and black plum. Liquorice, black pepper, and oak provide additional layers. The full bodied nature and 14.5% alcohol is just about kept in check by the acidity. (1562 views) | | Tasted by ogres3 on 5/22/2020 & rated 90 points: Solid middle-of-the-road Zin from Ridge. (1743 views) | | Tasted by ogres3 on 5/9/2020 & rated 90 points: Solid, probably top half of Ridge zins. (1654 views) | | Tasted by mdkraft99 on 3/6/2020 & rated 90 points: Consistent with my last note - Plum, strawberry, hint of vanilla, oak, pepper, a little minerality, mild tannins, very enjoyable. (1649 views) | | Tasted by chatters on 1/17/2020: Coravin fun - Ridge range; 1/15/2020-1/17/2020 (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Ooh, smells quite serious initially. Savoury plums, black cherry, slight earth, spice, a little blood note, polished oak. With time in glass the fruit grows more compote and is joined by some baked strawberry. On the palate it's surprisingly fresh, strawberry joins plums and black cherries, there is some peppery spice, tannins are drying and a little chalky , but by no means dominant. Balanced. Long. Fantastic. (2030 views) | | Tasted by bjschmitt on 12/14/2019 & rated 89 points: Served with Cossetta's mushroom ravioli and sauce. Crimson, almost opaque. Opened cooler than was wont. Inviting nose, which opened up as evening wore on. Needed some time to come to appropriate temp, and with a bit of air. Mea culpa on this one. (2045 views) | | Tasted by Pålla on 12/5/2019 & rated 88 points: OK, tror den vil ha godt av ett par år til, neste 2021 (2000 views) | | Tasted by rgprints on 10/30/2019 & rated 90 points: Didn't match expectations, which were very high. (2246 views) | | Tasted by Motz on 10/18/2019 & rated 89 points: Extracted and dense. The extraction level masquerades as structure. Not much range or depth; 1,000 day aged Gouda accentuated the nuance. (2301 views) | | Tasted by ppandian on 10/11/2019 & rated 89 points: Solid Zin as always from Ridge. Nice tannins, bramble, chewy and balanced. (1922 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountyDry Creek Valley Winegrowers of Dry Creek Valley | Dry Creek Valley Association | Appellation America | San Francisco Chronicle Article |
