Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 86.8 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 31 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Ozmango on 8/19/2021 & rated 88 points: I look back at my previous notes. Maybe went through middle age paunch. Seems to have improved into a soft tannic red. Or is it just a better cork.
Addendum: Drink it quickly once open. Last glass decidedly worse than the first. (400 views)
Tasted by Ozmango on 8/23/2016 & rated 87 points: This bottle better than the last. Bottle variations under cork?? Clean soft medium bodied red. Still drinking ok. Reminds me on Cruickshank's Cabernet Franc. (1422 views)
Tasted by Ozmango on 4/8/2016 & rated 84 points: Seen better days. Drink soon. (1559 views)
Tasted by Neecies on 2/16/2013: Should have been drunk 2-3 years ago, though all the reasons for buying it in the first place were evident if somewhat faded. (3366 views)
Tasted by djpo on 2/22/2012 & rated 79 points: Black in color, tastes like moldy-hay (according to Paul), past its prime - but kinda interesting..... (3649 views)
Tasted by markjanes on 10/10/2010 & rated 85 points: Little more funk on this one... overall showed just a little better for me than the previous two and notes were the same except I had it with just a smidge more complexity. (3895 views)
Tasted by kdsipe on 5/30/2010 & rated 91 points: This is open for business with aromas of cherry, green pepper, leather, tobacco and spice. Balanced with fine tannin, good acidity and an intense minerality. Dry. This is really beginning to show well. Paired nicely with a chicken liver, mushroom and rosemary cavatelli. (3251 views)
Tasted by markjanes on 5/19/2010 & rated 84 points: My notes are consistent from the last time with this bottle showing just a little better texturally... I think the wine is at/slighlty past its peak... it's not as balanced as it was when it was younger, not as charming. Time to drink up... great wine for the price. (3076 views)
Tasted by ScottGoodwin on 2/17/2010 & rated 90 points: Dark. Manure, leather, green peppers and red and black fruits. Smoke on the palate for DAYS. Burnt plastic that I associate with Pinotage. Definite saline element. Nose starting to turn - more mineral, loss saline/smoke. More fruit, less funk! Black berries and black cherries. Subtle, fine-grained tannins. Day 2 - smoke had turned more to smoked meat with pepper. More of a floral note as well. Entire palate nicely knit together. (1766 views)
Tasted by kdsipe on 7/26/2009 & rated 89 points: A very good bottle of wine. Aromas of ripe cherry, olive, bell pepper, and spice. Light and lively in the mouth, with a very dry finish. It makes me want to find other Baudry offerings. (1892 views)
Tasted by markjanes on 7/17/2009 & rated 84 points: Reddish/purple tinged rim, dark color. On the nose moderately intense notes of red > dark fruits which are equaled by slightly vegetal, stony aromas... no perceptible new barrique influence. On the palate the wine has high acidity, a moderate amount of breadth in the midpalate, firm, chalky tannins of moderate ripeness which aren't yet integrated... low alcohol. Good balance, moderate length, above average intensity, average complexity. This wine had a coarseness to it that hurt its wine's finesse and texture a bit... there is an unmistakable Lorie Cab Franc expression of place. This bottle did not drink as well as others I have had of this wine (less clarity of aroma and texturally much coarser) and I don't know if it is going through a phase or was just an off bottle. Perfectly grilled lamb chops took care of the textural issues I had with this wine... ummm. Lack of representativeness makes maturity conclusions difficult. (1776 views)
Tasted by ScottGoodwin on 1/30/2009 & rated 90 points: Initial aromas of a barnyard which pretty much blew off leaving behind little bitty strawberries and earth. Green peppers and little jalapeno. The palate showed black cherry juice but still had that earthiness and some pine needles. Light to medium bodied. As it opened up I got more cherry and cranberry and a beautiful floral element like a little but of Febreeze! (1799 views)
Tasted by wjcole on 8/3/2008 & rated 88 points: Drank this wine with homemade four-cheese and mixed herb pizza. Earthy, fragrant, and altogether very enjoyable. Ready for current consumption, does not seem like aging will bring additional complexity. Enjoy now. (2062 views)
Tasted by stevetimko on 8/1/2008: Well, this wine wasn't totally offensive to me, which is rare for Chinon. But it also didn't do much for me either. I spent $17 to yet again prove that Loire cabernet franc is not my thing. It had good acid and fruit. Great minerality. It's more ripe than other Loire reds. I don't get much of those odd green flavors. There's something genetic about how Loire reds taste to me and they just aren't worth my money. From now on I have to resolve to buy no more Loire cabernets without having tasted them first. A Louis/Dressner import. (1858 views)
Tasted by barcud on 5/16/2008 & rated 88 points: Huge extract and youth, steely aromatic clasic CF nose. Raspberries and plums, raw tannins, yet so drinkable. This could live for a few years. (1965 views)
 Tasted by stubbie999 on 1/23/2008: Color - Opaque ruby/violet
Nose - Some sweaty funk and oaty-ness leads the herbs (mint, thyme, etc) and fruit (cherry, raspberry), there's a little olive here, as well as a touch of lactic/sour milk in the background
Palate - Bright cherries and strawberries, along with straw and olive, and noticible tannins, with the olive and muted cherry hanging on for the moderate finish. (2377 views)
Tasted by beachnic on 1/18/2008 & rated 87 points: Very nice Aromatics to this but light on the finish. (2276 views)
Tasted by markfitz on 12/1/2007: There was the classic bell-pepper. On the finish it was bitter though showing cutting acidity. With food it came alive. The green streak seemed to melt away, blending with the Pot au Feu. (1406 views)
Tasted by The Klipper on 8/9/2007 & rated 89 points: Opened at a garden jeebus with Terry Theise and 25 friends. (3445 views)
Tasted by cweiss on 8/2/2007: similar to 7/2/07; it was more a wine of distinction with young forward fruit. It is still worth drinking, and may reemerge as a wine of merit but think it's most valuable (to drink) days have passed. (2463 views)
Tasted by cweiss on 7/2/2007: I still liked this wine a lot, but preferred it 8 months earlier for ripe forward fruit. (2405 views)
Tasted by PhDP on 4/12/2007: Tellement agréable, grâce à un grand équilibre. Concentré, en légereté. Super ! (2617 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 3/24/2007 & rated 88 points: Poured at a reailer tasting. Ruby color. Lovely aromatics, with lots of fruti and herb tones. Grea acidity, fine tannins and good depth to the red and dark fruit flavors. The finish is a tad short. (2249 views)
Tasted by greenblanket on 3/1/2007 & rated 87 points: At room temperature this wine was very fruit forward but when chilled just a bit it was much better balanced with raspberry and cherry fruit along with smooth mineral, herbs, tobacco, chalky tannin, and attractive high notes of green pepper. While the flavors and aromas are simple and straight forward this wine also has depth and richness. Very nice. (2575 views)
Tasted by StewartWent on 3/1/2007 & rated 85 points: Line and length dry red for mine. Balanced nose. Good drying length with tabacco and a touch of leaf. Looks like a cool climate cabernet in the Australian context. (1772 views)

Baudry is now assisted by his son Matthieu. Baudry’s style exemplifies rich, precise fruit picked at perfect ripeness levels and vinified cleanly using state-of-the-art equipment.
