| Community Tasting Notes (average 92.2 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 7 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by MikeeyC on 2/16/2024 & rated 90 points: Some finely developed attractive tertiary notes of tar, cinnamon and stewed dark fruits such as blackberry, dark cherry and black plum. Drinking nicely now but can hold for many more years to come. (189 views) | | Tasted by Sonoma-W on 8/29/2020 & rated 94 points: Very appealing modern CNP. Silky, charcoal; dark strawberries and blackberries. (1816 views) | | Tasted by ziavino on 7/14/2020 & rated 93 points: PnP, and tight for the first hour or so. Slowly opens up to fresh raspberries and pepper on the nose, and raspberry, red licorice, black pepper, and tea on the palate. Tarry notes move in late on the moderately tannic finish. Elegant mouthfeel despite the alcohol (15.5%!). A well-crafted modern style of CdP. (1908 views) | | Tasted by PSPatrick on 8/2/2019 & rated 93 points: Southern Rhône trip with Rainer. Tasted at the Domaine, with knowledgeable Véronique. 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre. €38. From a newly opened bottle. Medium to dark ruby. Great red and dark berry notes, herbs, pastille, spices and liquorice. More elegant and even more structured and complex than the 2016, with more prominent tannin. Good, fresh acidity and superb length. Dense and tight. Great structure. Very well-balanced despite of its youth. An impressive effort! Will need a lot of time.
Great Véronique gifted us the bottle (and the bottle of 2015 Les Hautes Brusquières) and we retried the wines over dinner picnic that evening. The high-quality tannin of this Mourre des Perdrix had tamed a little, but the wine still was very dry. Our initial impression was confirmed, a serious, very structured, very impressive CdP that will need a lot of time. At the tasting, I preferred the Brusquières, but at the retastings in the evening I preferred this Mourre des Perdrix. (2118 views) | | Tasted by vespasian on 9/28/2018: Really lovely fruit definition on the nose here. Perfumed, feminine. Very driven by floral red fruits; cool, fresh and approachable. Nice mineral quality here and pure defined fruit. Very lovely. (2238 views) | | Tasted by Jeff Leve on 8/21/2017 & rated 92 points: Soft textured, with elegant, silky tannins, concentration of flavor and loads of sweet, ripe, juicy, peppery cherries in the finish The wine was produced from 70% Grenache 15% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre. AOC Red Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Hautes Brusquières
Grape varieties : This cuvee is made up of Grenache (70%) and Syrah (30%) The vines are between 30 to 50 years old. Situation and soil type : All the grapes come from the Brusquières plateau, in the north of Châteauneuf du Pape, where we can find the famous round pebbles and a clayey subsoil Vats : Wood and stainless steel with temperature control
Vatting : Since 2000, we have decided to destem and to crush all grapes Vatting lasts 3 to 5 weeks, depending on the vintage at a temperature between 25 and 30°C A release or a punching of the cap is done every 2 days and pumping over every day. The malolactic fermentation happens in barrels and vats. Ageing : Ageing continues in barrels and big oak tanks during 12 – 18 months depending on the vintage. Tasting : This is an atypical cuvee in terms of its complexity of aromas: deep spice, black fruit flavors and chocolate notes are overlaid with leather and a wild complexity. This complex nectar needs a long cellaring to 15 years from vintage. Further information: The cuvee bottled without filtration is stocked in our warehouse air-conditioned at 16°C.
Red Rhone Blend Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.
A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce. "As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
