Tasted by Terese Nord on 2/24/2021 & rated 90 points: Super. Härligt fruktig och blommig. Bra syra kvar oftast låg. Fantastiskt vin. (872 views)
Tasted by Terese Nord on 2/20/2021 & rated 90 points: Fantastiskt vin, mycket smak av litchi, bra balans. Syran fanns kvar. Fortfarande väldigt blommig. (838 views)
Tasted by Erik Snel on 1/4/2021 & rated 86 points: ‘Gewürztraminer from the Alsace is always a complex item. At first I am impressed by the intens and unique palet of aroma’s, mineral, oily, with a long finish and with an Oriental touch. But after a second glass I suddenly get fed up with it. Even when from a respectable producer like Hugel.

Tasted by WineHors on 11/30/2020: Colour: slight yellow
Nose: very very floral, lychee, sweet lemon
Palate: some sweetness with lemon and light medium body. Acid is not very strong but still balance and holding up well. Very nice (880 views)
Tasted by Jokofon on 12/26/2019 & rated 87 points: Floral on the nose, good concentration, lacks complexity (1368 views)
Tasted by bvivio on 11/3/2019 & rated 93 points: (tasted blind)

Appearance: medium gold, medium tearing, no rim variation, no sediment, no gas evidence.

Nose: clean, developing, pronounced intensity, yellow pear, yellow plum, mango, tangerine, lychee, rose, orange blossom, candied ginger, fennel, anise, smoke, dried mango.

Palate: just barely off dry, medium- acid, medium+ alcohol (13%), medium+ body, medium+ intensity, some phenolic bitterness, long finish, yellow plum, apricot, mango, tangerine, lychee, candied lemon peel, rose, candied ginger, anise, smoke, dried mango, dried apricot.

Overall: A beautifully aromatic, complex, and developed Gewürztraminer. The florals are still strong, and the fruit is starting to move into the dried camp. Delicious tertiary flavors of smoke, ginger, and spices are now in great balance with the slightly tropical golden fruits and the classic rose. A little low on acid, but this is an Alsace Gewürztraminer, so that is correct for the style. Super interesting, and with a great finish. A highly undervalued wine that ages surprisingly well in the medium-term. (900 views)

Tasted by fizz on 2/16/2019: 56th TWIGS Meeting (KC and Molly's place): Served blind.
Cork. 13% alc.
Pale straw. Lychee, honey, white flowers - like jasmine and murraya. The palate is so floral. There’s good intensity here. It's got some sweetness also, but it’s carried beautifully by the weight and structure. (1352 views)
Tasted by Jason Wu on 12/25/2018 & rated 89 points: Very prominent lychee, honey and dried apricot. Typical Gewurz, great wine. (1206 views)
Tasted by TrondSB on 12/2/2018: Frisk og aromatisk, god muskatt drue. Lett
Drakk denne til oste fondue og den ga en god friskhet og balanse til osten. (856 views)
Tasted by acyso on 7/15/2018 & rated 85 points: Sunday blinds (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. Lychees = gewurztraminer. There's just nothing else to discuss here. Feels young enough (perhaps 5 years?). A touch cloying and more alcohol on the back end than I care for. A pretty typical gewurztraminer, which isn't really a great thing at the end of the day. (2052 views)
Tasted by WineCenturyAZ on 4/30/2018 & rated 89 points: One of the best dry gewurz producer in the Alsace and the Classic delivers. Light yellow in the glass, aromatic nose of floral and tropical fruit notes, palate is dry, notes of lychee lead, agave nectar, apricot, limestone minerality and a medium finish. Very nice. (1273 views)
Tasted by lovanc@outlook.com on 3/25/2018: Delicious gewurztraminer. Floral on the nose but more balanced on the palate. Papaya with enough acidity to make it the perfect match to Indian food (43 views)
Tasted by CBRwineguy on 2/12/2018 & rated 88 points: WSET Level 2 - Day 1 (Pialligo Estate, Canberra, ACT, Australia): Clear pale gold with pétillance and tears.

Clean developing nose with pronounced intensity. There are distinct notes of honeysuckle, lychee and rose petal.

The wine is dry (a little RS but not more than 9g/L) with medium acidity, medium alcohol, and medium body. The flavours are pronounced and follow the nose with notes of honeysuckle, rose petal, rose water, lychee and very subtle cinnamon. The cinnamon note was not detected on the nose. The finish has a medium(+) length.

This is a very good quality wine. The flavours are very concentrated and have a great balance with the alcohol and the acidity. The wine is simple, only showing primary characteristics, but has a great varietal expression, is very enjoyable, and has a finish with great length.

The wine should be consumed now, before it passes its peak. (1395 views)
Tasted by kostaslonis on 10/15/2017 & rated 88 points: Cellier Wine Fair 2017 (Hilton Athenaum Hotel): More fruity than floral, well balanced in the palate, easy, straightforward, ight, med spicy finish. Would be great to have by the glass (1128 views)
Tasted by Rieslingfan on 10/12/2017: Gratis BTG pour at the Intercontinental in Singapore, and I would happily have payed for the pleasure. Rose and lychee made the grape obvious, and the mostly dry palate conveyed the flavors through the mid-palate and finish. A really pleasant glass of wine. (1422 views)
Tasted by StasMedvedev.lv on 9/29/2017 & rated 87 points: Pale yellow colour. Intense aromas of exotic fruits, distinct flavours of pomelo citrus both on the nose and the palate.
Little hint is to serve the wine slightly above the recommended temperature. Let it breathe and warm up a little bit, closer to a room temperature. It will better show its complex profile.
Dry, medium body, medium acidity.
Much better vintage than the previous one.
Classy Alsacian Gewürztraminer. (843 views)
Tasted by Wine&CheeseSnob on 2/23/2017: Softer than usual gewurtztraminer
Soft finish
Pair: strong cheese, game, pork and spicy foods (313 views)

Citation from a comment by John H. Trombley on Hugel wines labeled "Grossi Laüi":

These wines come from lieu-dit(s) located within [a] Grand Cru vineyard(s), but were not labeled with their respective vineyard names (a requirement for Alsace Grand Cru AOC.) As a matter of fact, this seems to have been deliberately avoided, purportedly for reasons given below.

IT MUST BE EMPHASIZED THAT NOT EVERY WINE MADE IN A GRAND CRU VINEYARD IS ENTITLED TO THE AOC ALSACE GRAND CRU BECAUSE THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER REQUIREMENTS, NOT LEAST YIELD AND permitted VARIETIES.

NOTE THAT what is claimed by Robert Parker as an Alsatian-dialect trivalent for the Burgundian 'Grand Cru' or the German 'Grosses Gwächs', that is, Grossi Laüi, seems to have no official standing in the wine law that I could find as of this date. The Hugels are knows to be among a handful of powerful estates who, for various reasons, have strongly resisted participation in the Alsace Grand Cru system, and its efforts at promoting a separate system probably should be seen as self-promotional, in the view of some. In 2017, those resisters were beginning to work with the system, and it is expected that this will influence the labeling identity of subsequent vintages. I expect this may cause some confusion as to wine identities.

In Cellar Tracker, it is strongly suggested that wines not be listed as Grand Cru unless the maker has chosen to make that label claim, and is prepared to defend it to the Appellation authorities. However, exceptions may arise, and will undoubtedly be structured into the CT infomatics.
