Community Tasting Notes (average 91 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 195 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by td1836 on 5/4/2024 & rated 90 points: Very fruit forward and could use some more structure, but stylistically in line with valley floor Napa. (302 views)
Tasted by Hrv123 on 2/18/2024 & rated 89 points: Pnp. Quite tannic and didn’t settle down after 3 hours in bottle. Poorly integrated. A departure from previous bottles where the fruit was more at the fore. Saved half the bottle for tomorrow. (847 views)
Tasted by ppandian on 2/6/2024 & rated 89 points: Good Napa Cab. Red fruit and mellow tannins. Slightly fruit forward.. (651 views)
Tasted by tbrader on 11/2/2023 & rated 93 points: Last bottle of 100. Still drinking lovely. Tannins have nearly completely yielded to smooth black fruit. Cassis, licorice, vanilla. I'll miss the 2016s. (1256 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 10/10/2023 & rated 90 points: Not much to write home about, esp for a '16 Cali cab. (1419 views)
Tasted by BordeauxBoy on 7/25/2023 & rated 91 points: Soft. Enjoyable cab. Pnp'd. Opened quickly. Don't think it will get any better but will last for 5 more years. (1672 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 6/25/2023 & rated 90 points: The neighbor walked over when we were drinking a Relentless - so I ran downstairs and popped this for him - and he sucked down almost the entire bottle. (1545 views)
Tasted by Rossodio on 6/23/2023 & rated 91 points: From magnum. Somewhat faceless and stereotypical but enjoyable and good napa Cabernet Sauvignon. This has shed some of its baby fat and is expressive and delicious on the palate and should hold and likely improve over the next 3-5 years at the least. The ceiling is likely around 93 points or less but this is certainly nice for the price. If you like a good new world expression of cabernet without overbearing tannins this is a good go to. (1378 views)
Tasted by Vtdarush on 1/31/2023 & rated 92 points: Full bodied with lots of fruit -- almost jammy and with somewhat tight tannins. Certainly benefited from an hour in the decanter. (2052 views)
Tasted by Francophile1 on 12/19/2022 & rated 89 points: Good value Canernet when you want a nice glass of wine but don’t want to have to think about what you are drinking. Four square and somewhat unremarkable. While I probably won’t buy this again for my personal cellar, I would buy it off a wine list at a restaurant especially if with a group of people who like prefer new world wine. (2080 views)
Tasted by Baslers Winery on 11/3/2022: Full bodied and fruity. One of our favorites. (1839 views)
Tasted by Baslers Winery on 10/27/2022 & rated 94 points: Full-bodied with a fruity finish. (1783 views)
Tasted by talid on 10/7/2022 & rated 91 points: Nice nose of cassis and some tobacco. Medium acidity and tannin and surprisingly a little muted on the palate. A good, but not outstanding, Napa cab. (606 views)
Tasted by Cablover1982 on 10/2/2022 & rated 93 points: Nice entry level bottle by Hall. Tasted a lot more focused than 2 years ago. Notes of mellow oak, dark fruits and tobacco. Palate adding some savory notes with warm vanilla and cedar. Nice tannins, good finish. (2078 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 9/23/2022 & rated 90 points: Pleasant, nothing remarkable. (1457 views)
Tasted by TastesGoodToMe on 7/21/2022 & rated 91 points: I find Hall NV regular bottling to be consistently good mid week quaffer. Good QPR especially when you can find these on sale. (2085 views)
Tasted by Yondan on 6/7/2022 & rated 92 points: Great wine for a great price. The 2016 vintage was quite tannic but opened up nicely after 6 years. Well rounded, balanced wine. Fruit forward. Cant go wrong with this wine. I suggest getting a few of the 2018 now available and hold till 2024 (1773 views)
Tasted by WineTimeFineTime on 5/29/2022 & rated 92 points: Excellent and aging really nicely. Still fruit forward but the middle emerges with graphite and blackberry jam and tannins. (1443 views)
Tasted by denisontb on 5/6/2022 & rated 91 points: This is a nice Napa Cab, which benefited significantly from a bit of time out of the bottle. Pop & poured, and initially somewhat tight. An hour later it was delicious. A truly solid wine, and very enjoyable. Well structured. Sad this was our last bottle. (1566 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 3/12/2022 & rated 90 points: Pretty average Napa cab. (2024 views)
Tasted by Cfavs15 on 2/5/2022: With JK (572 views)
Tasted by Colorado3G on 1/30/2022 & rated 90 points: Solid Napa Cab! A little air helped this open up too. (2195 views)
Tasted by TCKM on 12/9/2021 & rated 91 points: Nice Napa cab. Well balanced, pure. (2357 views)
Tasted by Thebigbaby on 11/25/2021 & rated 88 points: Magnum for Thanksgiving. Fruit and straightforward Napa cab. Crowd pleaser that did show its alcohol level of 15.5%, though. Solid. (2172 views)
Tasted by Tacoma714 on 10/11/2021 & rated 92 points: Best QPR of any Napa wine under $50. But more. You won't be disappointed. I never get tired of it (2680 views)

Hall

Producer website
Since first working in her family’s Mendocino vineyards, Kathryn Hall dreamed of a place to showcase fine wines alongside expressive art and masterful architecture. Now, Kathryn and Craig Hall are creating an unrivalled destination
in the Napa Valley—where winemaking excellence meets contemporary design to celebrate life and inspire the senses. In 2005, Craig and Kathryn Hall unveiled a state-of-the-art winery amid the legendary Sacrashe Vineyard in the hills
of Rutherford that is dedicated to making single vineyard and limited-production wines. The Halls acquired the historic Bergfeld winery in St. Helena in 2003, and are merging history and innovation with the completion of California's
First Winery to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold Certification.

HALL’s estate vineyards encompass more than five hundred acres of classic Bordeaux varietals; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc.
As winegrowers, the Halls have a strong respect for the environment and a commitment to cutting-edge vineyard technology to yield the highest quality grapes.
Through meticulous attention to detail in the vineyards, HALL wines are able to express the unique and diverse character of Napa Valley’s soils and climate.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
