Community Tasting Notes (average 90 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 172 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Akcbeast on 1/14/2024 & rated 90 points: Solid 90.5 to me. No decant, paired with NY strip and expected more but had good tannin structure. (1208 views)
Tasted by btc on 12/23/2023 & rated 93 points: Excellent wine. Well integrated tannins. Opened up nicely over an hour. Wish I'd bought more. Drinking nicely now. (1222 views)
Tasted by winespine on 9/21/2023 & rated 92 points: The disappointing Artemis we had last week tempered my expectations of this wine because it’s another winery owned by a large corp. from outside the valley. (Napa has a long history of big corporations turning great wineries into mediocre wineries) This is another wine I got as a present, and I did put some age on it in the cellar largely out of nostalgia. But I gotta say, this was really good! Classic Napa Cab, in a style we quite like: medium-full bodied, fruit (blueberries, dark cherries) is ripe but not overpowering, spicy (cinnamon, clove), oak beautifully integrated. Pop and poured it, no food. I was prepared to decant it, but after tasting didn’t think I needed to. It’s ready to go! (2003 views)
Tasted by pmcellar on 9/2/2023 & rated 92 points: Very good! (2035 views)
Tasted by trumpet60201 on 8/5/2023 & rated 91 points: 1st of 6. This was quite nice. Brought to a party, so only had a glass to taste, and no detailed notes were taken. It's in a good spot now, with lovely fruit and nice balance (14.1% abv) overall. The tannins are fine, but firm, and they could use some more time to mellow out, but it was still a pleasure to have this now. Drink now through 2036. 91+ (2281 views)
Tasted by CJV on 4/23/2023 & rated 91 points: Three hours "lazy" decant (in bottle). The wine is not forward, at all, but beautifully refined and goes down like liquid silk. The flavor is lovely, albeit receded as noted. Drink while seated and contemplative, not walking around in a festive setting. You would want more punch pairing with red meat but with a thick chicken or pasta dish this would be superb. I cannot imagine any reason to leave this in the cellar, so enjoy. I'm looking to scrounge more bottles, up to $50. (2640 views)
Tasted by Al-Vino on 3/22/2023 & rated 90 points: Good, solid bottle without the fruit forward, sweet profile of many Californian Cabs. Not the best option for value seekers. (2493 views)
Tasted by cjsadler on 3/7/2023 & rated 91 points: Took an hour decant, but this developed into a nice, restrained, almost old-school Napa cab. (2091 views)
Tasted by Philip Yang on 2/22/2023 & rated 89 points: Medium intensity nose. Medium+ body. Lacks complexity and would do with a little more fruit but I like it for it is not overly extracted like many new world Cabs. Some would have taken it for a Bordeaux. (2032 views)
Tasted by MonAmiPhilippe on 11/25/2022 & rated 87 points: On open nose of cassis, tobacco leaf, earth w dense cab color, flavors like nose. Strong tannins.
Day 2: nose gained complexity and smoother on palate more favorable tannins fruit held up and a creamy tactile quality.
Enjoyable yes for good qualities but not 90 points in my opinion. (2604 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 9/24/2022 & rated 91 points: 4th Saturday Brown Bagger (EBCC): Double blind. Deep color. Notes of cassis, blackberry and peppery spice. Develops a note of hoisin sauce as it sits in the glass. Firm tannins with flavors of black fruit. Good underlying acidity. Giuessed Napa cab sauv. It's not "old school," but leaning ever so slightly in that direction. Excellent despite its youth. (MM) (2913 views)
Tasted by Chill51 on 9/24/2022 & rated 89 points: Slight bit of fruit upon opening with smooth tannins. A little bit of cedar and earth with a slightly dry finish. Paired with a prime rib meal complete with baked potato and capped it off with a piece of rich chocolate fudge cake. Enjoyable (2369 views)
Tasted by tadams66 on 9/3/2022 & rated 91 points: Beautiful dark fruit with a luscious mouth feel. Nice ta mins but they are getting nicely integrated. Can drink now or hold for several more years. (2483 views)
Tasted by ramsaypaul144 on 7/18/2022 & rated 89 points: great wine, nice long finish. (399 views)
Tasted by Saltiecroc on 6/23/2022 & rated 88 points: This wine is decent, but no complexity. Highly doubt that more aging will improve it. Enjoyable, but better wines for the price. (3000 views)
Tasted by Medhat on 2/23/2022 & rated 92 points: Opened after about 30 minutes. Full bodied, cherry. Paired with filet (solid pairing). Would buy again. (3511 views)
Tasted by Okanagan Sunset on 1/12/2022: Hints of black cherry and spice.
Wine opened lovely after about an hour of aeration, so either open for a while or decant.
Paired well with tenderloin steak, less well with lobster tails (for my birthday dinner). (3613 views)

Tasted by cmcleish on 9/26/2021: It was ok, wouldn’t buy again. No complexity and it had decanted for over an hour. (4324 views)

Tasted by Bahloola on 5/14/2021 & rated 92 points: Enjoyable. Still a lot of cherrys and some tartness of red fruit on the tip. Will hold for another year (2432 views)
Tasted by markcic on 5/8/2021 & rated 89 points: So I had some friends stop by unexpected and we pnp'd this wine. It was dark berries in the nose. The palate was blackberry, blueberry and hints of coffee. The finish was moderate and relatively smooth. I think some air time or decanting might raise the score a little. (4203 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
