| Community Tasting Notes (average 85.3 pts. and median of 87 pts. in 4 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Stephan O on 12/27/2004 & rated 87 points: Easy drinking and refreshing. Although it is priced perhaps at the high end of the “everyday” Sauvignon Blanc scale, it’s a decent value. Almost perfectly dry; not much trace of the usual sweetness that sometimes ruins inexpensive California whites. Surprisingly oaky—in the Chardonnay-wannabe style—which seems atypical for a Sauvignon Blanc. Light-bodied and crisp on the palate, if surprisingly (but not unpleasantly) acidic. Pretty well-balanced, but finishes a bit alcoholic. Not long, not deep, and not complex, but one can’t expect all that at this price ($15). (Tasted twice, on 12/27/04 and 1/27/05, with consistent notes.) (2850 views) | | Tasted by ancientvines on 11/25/2004: An OK Fume Blanc. Probably not worth buying again. (2955 views) | | Tasted by bestdamncab on 2/16/2004 & rated 89 points: Sauvignon Blanc (Walnut Creek, Ca.): Nose of smoke, ash, citrus, and minerals, more of the same on the palate, medium body, tasty, mouth filling fruit, a great wine for lunch, and a medium/long finish. | Ferrari-Carano Producer websiteSauvignon Blanc Varietal CharacterUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountySonoma CountySonoma Coast |
