Tasted by NoWineWiz on 9/9/2023 & rated 91 points: PnP from 375 ml. - 15 min. the glass. Smooth black & blue fruit, cedar & expresso. Soft tannins with a long full finish. (757 views)
Tasted by HappyinMiami on 5/17/2022: This has matured beautifully. Well rounded and balanced. Jammy with soft tannins. (2088 views)
Tasted by tomoem on 3/20/2022 & rated 89 points: A very good mid value Cali Cab. Restrained aromatics again like some past samplings of this wine. I get lieterally no aromatics. In mouth the wine is mulberry sweet fruit with some casiss and plum skin Cabernet. Blackberry, and plum and a smooth mouthfeel at first, but quite a lively mid palette where acidity overtakes the fruit. Spice driven finish. (2191 views)
Tasted by ABECellar on 10/23/2021 & rated 92 points: Wow. Would not have thought these would be so good when I layed them down a few years ago “just to see” what would happen. I have a magnum left which I will be saving until 2025. The QPR on Faust is outstanding and like one of the other posters I scooped up a case of the 17s at $29/bottle. A steal but definitely not in the same league as the ‘15. Dark fruit and plush mouthfeel. Medium-long finish. Pleasure to drink now. Bottles like these make me question some of the other much higher price napa cabs I collect to which I would give similar 92 rating. (2698 views)
Tasted by boston617 on 3/27/2021 & rated 94 points: Strong notes of caramel with hint of chili on finish. Cherry and blueberry flavors as well. (3547 views)
Tasted by mjm226 on 1/31/2021 & rated 92 points: This just keeps getting better. Big and bold but extremely smooth. Drinking really well right now. This one is a favorite. (3238 views)
Tasted by Hi.its.Don.4.Wine on 10/8/2020 & rated 92 points: A Time, and Wine, for Reflection

I’m generally not one to post anything other than my reviews, but last Saturday I felt a need to express myself outside of the wine biz. If you didn’t see it, you can look for the wine behind this review, as it was the main pic.

The wine also happens to be a re-review of this same wine I did a little over two years ago. In that review, I talked a great bit about QPR (Quality to Price Ratio) and how this wine was an excellent example. One thing that hasn’t changed is that I still love the wine. An item I mentioned that hasn’t changed, although back then I thought it might (there’s me thinking again and getting things wrong), was the price creeping up over the years. Back when I bought the wine, I paid right around $40 with the expectation that it would become more expensive, especially given its pedigree of being owned by the Huneeus Family, owners of Quintessa and predominately Cabernet with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot added, the grapes are sourced from the renowned areas of Coombsville, Atlas Peak, Rutherford, Mt Veeder, and Howell Mountain, and after a quick check, I found the newest vintage, 2017, on sale for $40! Who’d a thunk it?

In two years the wine still emanated aromas of bright blue/black fruit with no hint of oak or rustic elements even given the 19 months in 100% French Oak with 30% of that being new oak. The palate brings forth dark rich black fruit, while some reviews indicating plum; I found it a more bright almost sweet form of plum and cherry combination. Soft tannins and smooth nuances allow the wine to finish long with slight spice notes. It was a great wine for the Short Ribs and Braised Veggies that settled me into a time of reflection on Saturday.

And breaking with tradition, I wish you all; Peace, Happiness, and Health to you.

Darn, I can’t do it:

Cheers as well! (3120 views)

Tasted by kevrob822 on 1/9/2020 & rated 91 points: I’d raised this to 91 Points. Just getting a bit smoother and more polished. (3388 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 12/30/2019 & rated 90 points: Solid 90 Pointer. Nothing more to add. Every bottle has been a 90 or 91 Pointer. (3204 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 12/29/2019 & rated 90 points: Moving this down One Point, possibly unfairly, but this followed a shared bottle of Miner Family 2014 Saddleback Cabernet Sauvignon, which was just excellent. Honestly, this had a big wall ahead of it. (2830 views)
Tasted by PJM Iam on 12/27/2019 & rated 90 points: 1.5L decanted for 30 minutes. Nice deep garnet to tawny color. Medium intensity, seemed like lots of fruit versus other typical cab flavors. Nice wine with a medium finish and well integrated. Great value. (2730 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 12/22/2019 & rated 91 points: Yummy! Can’t wait to try the ‘16! (1672 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 12/12/2019 & rated 91 points: Nothing more to add to my (numerous) previous reviews. Just another yummy bottle. (1768 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 12/4/2019 & rated 91 points: I just did a spectacular “post-Thanksgiving Turkey” (since we got NO leftovers this year from my sister in law!). I HAD to open this half bottle of Faust after I tried some horrible CS from Happy Canyon to go along with my bird.

As always, this was lovely with lots of depth, texture, smoothness and just a great mouthfeel. So, should you match a CS with a Oven-roasted Turkey, Hell Yes! This bird was heavily seasoned with Garlic, Rosemary, Thyme (all fresh!) and a light topping of (freshly ground) Salt and Pepper. (1772 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 12/3/2019 & rated 91 points: Really, not much more to add that I haven’t said before. Down to 3, time to get more! (1745 views)
Tasted by mmeyers1984 on 11/28/2019 & rated 94 points: Really a terrific wine. Large format helped. Faust is always good but this was a notch above. (1759 views)
Tasted by RayT on 11/25/2019 & rated 93 points: This was a last-minute open. This was purple in color. This was a big, rich wine. Drank fine as a pnp but was better an hour in. This is such a big wine that time can only be its friend. A great QPR as I paid $22 for a 375ml at Costco. I had drunk this a few years ago and didn't love it but this 2015 was hitting on all cylinders. The best compliment I can pay a wine is that I buy more and I will be stocking up on this one! (2089 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 10/22/2019 & rated 91 points: Wow, this is another solid 91 Pointer! This juice is just getting better and better. Time to get more. This may have 5+ more years. (2084 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 10/17/2019 & rated 91 points: Wow, this bottle seemed to be a step up from the previous excellent bottles. The best bottle yet. To be completely transparent, this Faust followed TWO other bottles (which to be polite, shall remain nameless) that were just so bad they were just simply poured out and to add clarity to this, it takes a while hell of a lot for me to just pour out wine! They were just that bad! (2037 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 10/13/2019 & rated 90 points: Nice... decanted for 2+ hours. Very nice. I always try to keep 6+ of these around. Backup if I need “a touch more”. LOL (2187 views)
Tasted by Immigrator on 9/19/2019 & rated 91 points: At close to $50, this is not an inexpensive wine, but it has decent QPR for a Napa cab. A bit of oak on opening, followed by dark stone fruit and lavender aromas. The flavor profile is of blackberries, Herbs de Provence, and a light pencil lead. Well integrated tannins and a silky mouthfeel. Ready to drink now, but could be cellared for up to a decade. (2080 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 8/28/2019 & rated 89 points: Great little half bottle. Love the consistency of these bottles. So nice, big, rich, powerful and full of black fruit, plum, vanilla and oak. This juice just tickles my “buds”. Yummy! (2355 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 8/17/2019 & rated 90 points: A very nice bottle. Had it with a very nice Deemer's Patty Melt, which is one of the best burgers around. This little Half Bottle was just the perfect size and all I needed. (1959 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
