Community Tasting Notes (average 92.6 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 16 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by KeithAkers on 1/24/2024 & rated 93 points: Dinner at Iki Ramen vol.II (Iki Ramen, Los Angeles CA): This was open and giving right out of the gate as it filled the glass with deep tones of wax, lanolin, gun flint, warm dough, meyer lemons, red apples, crushed rocks, vanilla beans, and yellow flowers. The fruit certainly has some primary qualities to it, but it shows off excellent balance and a round quality to the tones. The Medium bodied feel is textured and balanced with crisp, medium+ acidity that shows off a lot of persistence. The feel is pure class and really makes the wine into a textural experience. This is right at the beginning of its window, but there is plenty of ways to go. I'm not sure this has the stuffing to be a legendary or extremely long-term Raveneau, but it sure is pretty darned good right now! (423 views)
Tasted by Peter Spijker on 1/1/2024 & rated 92 points: This was quite ripe for Chablis, some tropical fruits such as mango and pineapple, wax, with a mature feeling. Nonetheless it feels reasonably balanced, has some lovely stone fruit, but does not wow me like other bottles have. (344 views)
Tasted by beatles on 10/18/2023 & rated 92 points: Maybe the weakest Ravenau if the trip; quite rich, somewhat heayy, sunny style, exotic fruit, seems mature. But this can surprise, might seem fresher in ten years.

Tasted by rocknroller on 9/11/2023 & rated 95 points: France Trip: Paris, Champagne, Burgundy; 9/3/2023-9/17/2023 (Paris, Champagne, Burgundy): Light gold color. Split bottle between the four of us at Au Fils du Zinc in Chablis. Lemon and white flowers on the nose, with tarragon, sea spray, beeswax, clean and fresh. The palate shows lemmon preserves, lemon oil, white nectarine, wet stone, and a long finish. Quite exquisite. (619 views)
Tasted by lorenzodemonye on 7/9/2023 & rated 93 points: Good (394 views)
Tasted by Vinvidz on 5/1/2023 & rated 91 points: PNP. Light to medium yellow. Stone fruit and some wood on nose. Palate of stone fruit,
minerals and citrus with good acidity and nice balance. Could pass off as a Cote de Beaune white. Very drinkable. (487 views)
Tasted by llink on 2/17/2022 & rated 92 points: PNP. Pale yellow. Very aromatic, with essence of sea shore, iodine, lemon and a touch of brined funk. Medium weight palate, viscous and lacking a little acidic zing but still quite dry and chalky. (1213 views)
Miam ! (1765 views)
Tasted by jnewman77 on 9/30/2020: Purchased at restaurant; nose was lovely and classic Chablis with loads of seabreeze, iodine, green apple, hints of baked lime, pear, and crushed stone. The palate had very good concentration, great balance, and a lovely long finish. A bit more rounded than many Chablis in the wood aged style of Raveneau, but that doesn't detract at all for me. Top class Chablis. (1524 views)
Tasted by HowardNZ on 2/5/2020 & rated 93 points: Two visits to Waiheke Island (Easter 2019 and New Year's 2020) (Auckland, NZ): A complex nose of spices, minerals, tangelos, wet river boulder and rock melon with a hint of honeycomb. Fine, mineral and chalky in the mouth. Quite available. Rich and phenolic with grapefruit citrus, peach and some pineapple and other tropical fruit. Good Chablis typicity. “Slate and soil, surprisingly open and approachable”, noted Tamra. Very good! (2509 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 8/20/2019 & rated 92 points: Dinner at Nico Osteria (Nico Osteria, Chicago IL): This is a great contrast to the 00. The 00 was clearly mature while this one had some excellent tension and drive with peaches, white fruits, crushed rocks, apples, saline, custard, white flowers, and flint notes. This had seen some air, so it was fully uncoiled and bringing a lot of freshness. The Medium bodied feel is well balanced and vibrant with racy, high acidity. This is certainly young, but it's showing that there is an excellent base here. This really will benefit from another 5+ years before it really hits its stride. (741 views)
Tasted by dvansteenderen on 7/20/2019 & rated 95 points: At a * restaurant in the south of Burgundy. The sommelier said I could better choose something else, as this wine would be too young. But I told him I wanted to try it anyway, and so glad I did. This was amazing, super crisp and spicy! Even better than the François Raveneau 2016 MdT; 2015 MdT; 2011 Blanchot and 2011 Chapelot in this same trip. (1507 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 6/11/2019 & rated 93 points: Five winos excellent adventure , mostly in Burgundy; 6/7/2019-6/15/2019 (Beaune, France): Expressive nose displaying ripe yellow citrus, lemon curd, candied lemon peel, honey, beeswax, saline and wet stone. Excellent concentration, sweet citrus fruit, round, bright acidity, strong mineral and a long yellow citrus fruit driven finish. It is round and very sweet but also precise. (3710 views)
Tasted by Bobhelge on 4/12/2019 & rated 91 points: Beeswax, sweet white blossom and developed citrus. Tight but that’s no surprise at this age. A licorice componed almond in the finish. (1035 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
