Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.4 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 61 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by HandTaG on 2/19/2024: Lite för gammalt (318 views)
Tasted by North Willis on 2/17/2024 & rated 91 points: PnP. Blackberry, raspberry, slight menthol, and black pepper. Tons of pepper on the palate, with some spice and mineral notes on a long finish. Tannins are ripe and well integrated. After open for an hour or so, getting some smoke and slight bacon fat on the nose.

About USD 33, purchased from a shop in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Taxes on wine/alcohol here are very high to reduce local consumption and raise government revenue. Wine selection is quite limited, and handling often dubious. This bottle however, does not disappoint. A worthwhile purchase in this country context. (335 views)
Tasted by df1962 on 12/17/2023 & rated 92 points: PnP

Consistent with previous notes. Needs some air but so good. One of the world’s great wine buys. Should be on the wine list of every French bistro in town. (420 views)
Tasted by JayP on 4/10/2023 & rated 88 points: Like it but ..... drink up!! (833 views)
Tasted by Roustard on 1/22/2023 & rated 83 points: I enjoyed this when I had it back in 2020. Now, the wine was flat, with very little fruit left. It was acidic and abrasive. It was no better on day 3, it ended up down the sink. Too old? Bad bottle? (981 views)
Tasted by Kevin Staveley on 12/17/2022 & rated 89 points: Taste tested the 2015 & 2016 on the same night & wow what a difference between the both.

The 2016 provided aromas of dark red fruits & on the palate this wine was silky smooth with very little acidity or tannins with an incredible finish.

The 2015 provided more aromas of wet cement & plum fruit notes & on the palate this wine was a little more acidity not overly complex with an ok finish.

So on the nose the 2015 was the definite winner however on the palate the 2016 was the definite winner with its extremely smooth & silky finish. Quite interesting both wine were distinctly different with the 2016 outshining the 2015. (884 views)
Tasted by eljocco on 10/22/2021 & rated 91 points: Man skulle kunna bli lurad att detta är en bra barbera men den ger mer. De blå/röda bären övergår i en komplex struktur som erinrar om anis. Inget typiskt Rhônevin men ändå köpvärt. (1660 views)
Tasted by Anton_Wallin on 9/18/2021: Simple wine that enquire meat (1609 views)
Tasted by Dominic Roy on 8/14/2021 & rated 87 points: Nose: Sea breeze. Blueberry. French vanilla. Medium intensity.

Palate: Sea breeze. Peppermint. Medium tannins. Dry. Full body. Medium minus flavour intensity. Medium finish. (978 views)
Tasted by eljocco on 3/26/2021 & rated 91 points: Här finns det mörk frukt! Vi dividerar men landar i mogna björnbär. Bra syra som klara ett lamm med örtsås. Kommer leva ett eller två år till men blir inte bättre. (1577 views)
Tasted by David J Cooper on 1/29/2021 & rated 91 points: Clear medium red. Red cherry, pepper, green herbs and a bit of warm earth. Dry delicious cherry and pepper flavours and a perfectly balanced dry finish. (1893 views)
Tasted by df1962 on 1/29/2021 & rated 92 points: PnD let air for 2hrs.

Consistent with previous. Complex and subtle. So delicious. (1581 views)
Tasted by df1962 on 12/6/2020 & rated 92 points: PnD let air for 3hrs.

Consistent with previous notes. Love the subtle complexity and lingering finish. Huge value. (1464 views)
Tasted by Roustard on 11/21/2020 & rated 88 points: jammy cherry fruit, with peppery notes. Good secondary flavours. Finish a little bit short. Good value. Needs a 30-minute decant, at least. (1203 views)
Tasted by Joclo71 on 11/7/2020 & rated 90 points: Couleur pourpre semi-opaque. Au nez, poivre vert et mure. En bouche beaucoup de fruit noir croquant et une final mentholé épicé. Belle longueur et une acidité encore vive. (991 views)
Tasted by df1962 on 10/9/2020 & rated 92 points: PnD. Let air for 3hrs.

This has improved. Great freshness with depth and complexity. Tar garrigue Bing cherry and black raspberry with a touch of black tea on the nose. Elegant on the palate with perfect grip framing the cherry and blackberry fruit with tea tar and garrigue.

Lingering cherry tea finish. Very good. Suitable for further ageing. Going to grab a few more. (1086 views)
Tasted by winetaste on 7/26/2020 & rated 90 points: Enjoyable. Well balanced. Red tannins, and dark fruits. (1092 views)
Tasted by @sebastienwine on 5/17/2020 & rated 89 points: Enjoyable wine with pretty classic savoury notes to it; olive tapenade, black plums and liquorice. The finish is somewhat lacking but overall this is a tasty wine with nice secondary character. (1206 views)
Tasted by SadEdjo on 3/27/2020 & rated 90 points: Bright red fruit, licorice, good lift, long finish. Well integrated tannins. (1460 views)
Tasted by Euge67 on 3/1/2020 & rated 85 points: Non era male, ma quasi completamente privo di acidità. Un vino senza carattere e senza un perché (1404 views)
Tasted by vlzat on 2/4/2020 & rated 90 points: Medium body, deep purple color. Elegant red and black fruits aroma combined with flowers, leather and earthy notes. Charm black currants palate and long mineral but juicy finish. Rich but not powerful, complex and well balanced, fresh fruits acidity, soft and round tannins. Food friendly, paired nicely as with stewed meat as with vegetable soup. Serve 16º - 20º. Open about one hour ahead. Drink now while young and next four years. (1911 views)
Tasted by bobkl on 1/13/2020 & rated 85 points: Sour cherry and some green peppers, high acidity and weak structure. Definitely, not my favorite style of Northern Rhône. (1521 views)
Tasted by lkilpio on 10/12/2019 & rated 88 points: This was surprisingly thin and soft on the palate, in spite of the young age. I also had expected the wine to be more fruity and intensive. Was everything OK with this bottle? Probably yes, since the wine was not unpleasant, and it did not show any obvious defects, either. On the other hand, the wine is balanced, and its peppery, coaly, meaty and earthy flavors are very pleasant and promising.

I could try this wine later again, and I also could buy some more bottles for further storage. (1604 views)
Tasted by Ericsson on 9/12/2019 & rated 88 points: Au restaurant. Ouvert et bu. Au nez, arômes d’écurie surtout à l’ouverture, puis poivre, épices, tapenade.
La bouche est un peu diluée malgré la couleur très foncée du vin, le vin manque de concentration à ce stade et finit très court. (1620 views)
Tasted by Stags on 8/31/2019 & rated 90 points: Rich, intensive with peppery blackberry and cherry fruit, viola flowers, earth and mineral tones. Concentrated wine with good balance of fine tannins and acidity. Essentially no oak showcasing the terroir in a great natural way. (1399 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

Northern Rhône

Guide to the wines and appellations of the Northern Rhone Valley -

The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)

Regional History:
Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.

### 2017 vintage ###
