Tasted by Somm David T on 3/23/2024 & rated 95 points: Really starting to come on. Beautiful mouthfeel & mousse. Apricots, both peaches, tropical melons, pineapple, some green, lemon/lime zest & notes of marmalade. Punchy minerality, pronounced chalkiness, brioche, yeasty, baguette crust, hints of cream, saline, pronounced sea fossils, yellow lilies/flowers, shades of white Spring flowers, racey crisp acidity, perfect; balance, structure, tensioned, length and smartly polished finish that lasts two-minutes.

The 166ème Édition is composed of 140 wines from 13 different harvests between 1998 and 2010, and it's a blend of 45% Pinot Noir with 39% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier. Relatively young reserve wines makes up 42% of the composition, 2000 from Oger & 2006 wines from Verzy and Bouzy of note. It’s seen a minimum of six years of bottle aging. (1059 views)
Tasted by rnellans on 3/7/2024 & rated 94 points: Same as last note (1144 views)
Tasted by acyso on 2/16/2024 & rated 93 points: kɹʌɡ wɪθ dʌɡ (Chicago, IL): A great showing today -- this was another Krug that I was not particularly keen on at release, but I think this has really filled out. It's a hair on the lean side, but you can certainly find the typical Krug intensity on the palate, with more of a hard-baked biscuity aroma on the nose. The fruit veers a little mature, but coupled with the acidity, it's actually balanced pretty well for a difficult vintage like 2010. (1594 views)
Tasted by Torchy on 2/3/2024 & rated 96 points: A dark straw-yellow appearance introduces a captivating nose of meat, candy, spices, salt, and citrus. The palate offers high acidity with hints of sherbet, tangy fruit, and lovehearts. Evolving into pronounced citrus, salt, spice, pastry, and exotic fruit, the wine concludes with a remarkably long, complex, and delicate finish. Exceptional. (1282 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 1/4/2024 & rated 94 points: 419038, V1921KA, drank over three days. Brioche, citrus, vanilla, apple. This edition is so clean with higher acidity and beautiful balance. 94 (1703 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 12/29/2023 & rated 96 points: During a tasting session. Wonderful start to finish. Very aromatic nose with layers of citrus, spice, brioche. Elegant palate, long finish. 96+ (1793 views)
Tasted by Terroir59 on 12/25/2023 & rated 94 points: A very fresh bottle. Apples, toast and crème on the nose, though somewhat muted. The palate is another story - very rich and expansive flavors, great structure and acid, lots of life ahead! Excellent Grande Cuvée, a 2010 base year, hard to say Krug overachieves because it’s so consistently good, but definitely so for this bottle, bravo! (963 views)
Tasted by Benoit Hardy on 12/2/2023 & rated 93 points: Base 2010. Yellow fruits dominate everything on the nose. Very structured palate, it is here that the use of reserve wines proves decisive in order to complete a harvest of mediocre quality in order to raise the juice to Krug standards. Vinous but fresh, the wine is layered on red fruits, then toasted and all wrapped in a custard. Slender and tracing finish. (1330 views)
Tasted by burgburgburg on 11/21/2023 & rated 94 points: This magnum 166eme delivers a wonderful performance, showcasing an exceptional and intense bouquet of toasts and brioche. The magnum size of this edition proves advantageous, contributing to its overall appeal. In comparison to the magnum 168eme edition tasted two weeks ago, the 166eme edition displays better all-rounded characteristics. Its palate exhibits great balance, promising a wine that can be cellared and further developed for decades to come. (1318 views)
Tasted by Alex Barbera on 11/19/2023 & rated 91 points: DomPi Nase, sehr kurz, viel Karamell, weit und breit (1199 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 11/18/2023 & rated 91 points: Krug tasting (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany): Glass: Riedel Superleggero Champagne
From Magnum. Clear, medium golden color. Nose with some fine caramel, brioche, ripe and deep. On the palate very ripe, caramel, a bit sweet, not as long and complex as 168eme, a bit broad, but nevertheless round and balanced. Probably not the best bottle or vintage? 90-91 (1198 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 10/24/2023 & rated 94 points: 419038, V1921KA, drank over two days. Lots of acidity still, more caramel and balanced on the second day. Brioche, citrus peel, mushroom, green apple, apricot, savory, mineral, pastry cream, milky, umami, dimensional. Classic and mouthwatering with lots of structure. 94+ (1576 views)
Tasted by ovenmitt on 7/13/2023 & rated 94 points: Starting to come into its own but probably still needs another 3-5 years. Acid still just a little prickly (being critical), but lots of nice brioche, biscuits and almond. Long finish. This is good! (2181 views)
Tasted by tedcholl on 6/14/2023 & rated 96 points: My first Krug!! 166eme. Drank last night to celebrate 🍾 a special event! This, and a Bollinger I had awhile back, so different than any Champagne I'd ever had. This so complex! brioche, toasted bread, almonds, minerals, green apple, nutty, marzipan. Incredible wine experience. (2266 views)
Tasted by NickA on 4/20/2023 & rated 94 points: Whilst not exceptional, this is damn good despite the relatively weak base vintage, and whilst still fairly primary and fruit-driven has developed definite weight and authority. Lightly mineral on the nose, with some lemon coming through, reminiscent of a fresh oyster just before you swallow it down. Lemon curd, dried fruit and buttered toast on the palate, which was long, chewy and the wine's most compelling element. Finally, a bitter quinine-esque zip on the finish, which always demanded another sip. I reckon this will improve for another 3-5 years, but it's delicious already. (2597 views)
Tasted by burginner on 3/30/2023 & rated 94 points: Magnum. Slightly reductive, but showing greatly with little age notes. (2243 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 3/24/2023 & rated 93 points: 419038. Less oxidative and more acidity-driven than last bottle, but incredibly fresh. Very good with fries. Needs some more bottle age. 93+ (2378 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 3/22/2023 & rated 95 points: blind, from Magnum
Base 2010, fresh, acidity driven, lemon tarte, precise finish, typical Krug perfume. 95 (2272 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 3/8/2023 & rated 94 points: 117011. More acidic than other editions upon opening, then superbly fresh Krug yellow fruit leesy brioche profile came out, with amazing length that is very well carried out by a punch of acidity towards the end, not only keeping it refreshing and interesting but to notably elevating its dimension. Krug always comes across so precise as if little particles are dancing on the palate, but softly, and this is such an example. I think this will be a very "fresh" edition with strong 2010 vintage characters, of course in a good way, but classic to the house style. For those who enjoy more acidity-driven than oxidative Champagne this really strikes the perfect balance between the two. This bottle also performed significantly better than the previous two, and, with its ample acidity, it will likely benefit from further ageing. Totally delicious today, at the upper bound of at least the 10 recent editions of Grande Cuvée, including good bottles of 164eme. 94-95

P.S. Since I have already written this much, I will just say this is one of the best Krug I have tasted recently. The charm of Grande Cuvée is exactly its charm, not complexity or structure but its elegance as a "simple" wine. Maybe I should sell some of my grower Champagnes and buy more of these... (2151 views)
Tasted by asparagus on 3/5/2023: On a night where we drank 7 drank Krug GCs (162ed to 168ed, both inclusive), 1 vintage (2004) and 2 Roses (21st and 26th ed). All single blind. This was somewhere middle of the pack of the GCs. What was clear to me was (1) Krug GCs are very good and somewhat consistent even over the various editions, (2) I couldn’t tell vintage apart from GC and (3) the more heralded versions aren’t necessarily the best performing (too young?). Amongst all wines served that day, first was 168. 2nd was 165. And last was 164. (1744 views)
Tasted by acyso on 2/28/2023 & rated 93 points: Dujac and Moreau come to town (Chicago, IL): From magnum. Textbook Krug. Fantastic depth and proper weight. I was never a particular fan of this edition on release, but with some time and in the magnum format, this is pretty good stuff. (2617 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 2/28/2023 & rated 92 points: Small taste last night, note from memory. Magnum. Very layered and complex with good weight. Lots going on here. Time in bottle has been kind to 166eme. (2546 views)
Tasted by beatles on 2/9/2023 & rated 95 points: Drinking great tonight. Creamy, rich, layered, buttery, hast just enough age on it to show it's stuff, yet still young with plenty of lemon and acidity. Great, great wine.

Tasted by ash_then_chase on 2/4/2023 & rated 91 points: HARD on the cat pee. Reminds me of my ex-fiancée’s cat’s litter box… glad I ran away from that situation. Would have called Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2008 blind. Tons of green apple, fresh juiced lemons. @ Napa Boys Trip (1767 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 1/30/2023 & rated 94 points: Dave's btl tonight at Dave Ds fabulous dinner on a bone chilling MN night. So long to January! Thanks Dave! This was a little bonus 375 to kick the evening off and a wonderful way to welcome Dave's Guest! Classic MV Krug. Personally, I've found the MV series more in my wheelhouse. Mainly because the vaunted Vintage wines tend to be more advanced for my liking than the MV. This was an exceptional little btl tonight that was both fresh and boldly rich and intense. Loved it! 94-95 (2055 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
