Rich and bold. (942 views) | | Tasted by vinhslee on 11/9/2020 & rated 90 points: On the nose, it's all about lychee and pineapple. On the palate, it tastes of the syrup that comes with canned peach/pineapple/lychee. It's sweet but not cloying, saved by the acidity. It's a easy crowd pleaser. The 2016 is at its most open at present but having seen how the 2015 has begun to fall quickly I don't think one would want to hold on for another 6+ months. Great richness and well balanced acidity, it has an impressive length yet always under control. (925 views) | | Tasted by afields on 7/30/2020: The nose is all lychee syrup and pineapple. On the palate there’s some more energy with maybe M acid (more than other similarly priced Gewurztraminer I’ve had recently) and some lively spice like fresh ginger or maybe cardamom. Off dry though of course the flavor profile makes it come across sweeter than it actually is. We had this with glazed tofu in holiday ham style (with cloves and garlic et al), on a bed of ginger coconut rice, with a mixed tropical fruit salad (also with ginger). This wine really sings with the ginger notes, does well with the glazed tofu and rice in general, great with the tropical fruit obviously but not quite as good with the zesty citrus elements. I think ginger is the key to making Gewurztraminer work with savory dishes, and this is a pretty good bottle for trying that sort of pairing, but IMO you really have to shape the dish around the wine to make it come off. ~6-6.5/10 (1023 views) | | Tasted by mysterycooper on 6/24/2020: A little lemon up front, pithy Satsuma, peach. Dry & creamy, lean. Quite viscous from the fridge. Nice (1085 views) | | Tasted by Phillip.Panda on 3/20/2020 & rated 90 points: Lychee, pineapple, honey, peach, floral. (968 views) | | Tasted by auldalliance on 2/15/2020: With Indian takeaway. Excellent with tandoori. Well made wine, on the drier end of scale for Gewurz. (746 views) | | Tasted by fotomill on 12/21/2019 & rated 92 points: As always, fragrant, fruity, elegant. Ripe honeyed apple, lychee, apricot, lemon. Sweeter version Viognier. 91~92/100. (1116 views) | | Tasted by auldalliance on 12/13/2019: Beautifully balanced. More refreshing than some Gewurztraminer, due to a little more acidity I think, yet retains the spicy tropical fruit nature. Very good with a spicy, yet slightly sweet chicken curry. (1004 views) | | Tasted by srh on 11/2/2019: Taste Thanksgiving Holiday Wines (San Diego Wine Co.): WAY too cold
“Mainly from our named localities of Bollenberg & Bux as well as from the young vines from our Grand Cru vyds; Slow, pneumatic pressing was followed by static racking; Fermentation in thermo-regulated tuns for 1-4 mos; Maturation on lees from 6-8 mos; 13.43% ABV, 20.57 g/L R.S., & 3.14 g/L T.A.;”
N: Very FRAGRANT melding of grapefrt, flowers, & notes of spice (ginger?)
P: Med body; Very RNDISH entry with NICE, SWTISH frt (DEFINITELY > threshold R.S.), acidity trying to balance as it fairly seamlessly transitions into a LONG, balanced, tangy/SWT (35:65) finish with OCCASIONAL hints of a very, VERY slight varietal bitterness. For now & through '20, poss '21. While NICELY done, I'm flumoxed as to a pairing for it. I'm doubting entrees (even spicy Thai), so with lighter deserts? My VG+/EXC- (88-91/100 using that metric). 92 pts Decanter (Gellie, 1/28/19) & 90 WE (8/1/18) @ $27. [This vendor's $19.99 is as good as anyone on wine-searcher.] (1120 views) | | Tasted by rjpbath on 9/1/2019 & rated 91 points: Quite simply the best cheese pairing wine that I know of.... Lovely (954 views) | | Tasted by fotomill on 8/16/2019 & rated 92 points: Still very good. Fragrant, rich fruity. (951 views) | | Tasted by ricard on 8/4/2019 & rated 93 points: I'll keep on saying how wickedly good this wine is. Supremely elegant and utterly scrumptious. See my previous tasting notes! (1058 views) | | Tasted by Chateau-de-Plonk on 5/5/2019 & rated 90 points: Very aromatic. Roses, lychee and some sweet spice. A lovely oily texture, with medium acidity and medium alcohol. A hint of bitterness but very rich and unctuous. Solid Gewürztraminer with great balance. (824 views) | | Tasted by fotomill on 4/15/2019 & rated 92 points: Very concentrated, fragrant. Another excellent example of Alsatian Gewurztraminer. Sweet, bitter, lychee, peach, apricot, honey. (754 views) | | Tasted by ricard on 3/27/2019 & rated 93 points: My passion for this is undimmed - as per previous note. Peachy, opulent, floral, super-viscous, dense, sweet and generous. An absolute gem of a wine. Wonderful. (924 views) | | Tasted by ricard on 12/6/2018 & rated 93 points: Speechless. Just speechless at this crystalline exotic perfumed creamy voluptuous oleaginous beauty. An outstanding wine of great poise, power and intensity. Utterly delicious! (933 views) | | Tasted by vinhonotte on 5/23/2018 & rated 90 points: Grand Vin - Portfolio Tasting (The Ritz Carlton Millenia, Singapore): pale gold; perfumed, off dry, medium bodied, quite acidic; peach, apricot, elderflower, lavender, somewhat herbaceous (1309 views) |
