Got a little better with time but disappointed with the value based upon the price. (965 views) | | Tasted by 1512tnw on 1/29/2023 & rated 92 points: Decanted for several hours, still acidic with quite grippy tannins. The wine definitely needs food, but with lamb chops it was great to balance the fat — long finish too. The bottle is drinking well now, but can (should?) rest another year +. (1282 views) | | Tasted by desler on 10/12/2022 & rated 88 points: This bottle has settled down from 2 years ago, Now a nice well balanced chianti, rich fruit and Light acidity (1478 views) | | Tasted by gbejjani on 10/10/2022 & rated 92 points: A super well-integrated Chianti, with a balance that's usually hard to achieve for the difficult Sangiovese grape! Fruit and tannins in good offset, round, appealing but also layered. A top wine from a top terroir and a top vintage!

Consumed one hour after opening the bottle and didn't decant it but poured into large glasses that did sit for 30-45 minutes. Nice long finish. (2132 views) | | Tasted by platpeeps on 10/12/2021 & rated 90 points: Smoked meat, cherry & cranberry fruit developing silky tannins and texture progressing to a profound and long finish. I thought this was very classy indeed and my pick of the trio from this release. Still a long way to go in terms of maturity.
CHP 90 pts (1714 views) | | Tasted by BGK810 on 8/3/2021 & rated 91 points: This is what chianti is all about. Red fruits, like cherry, a touch of tomato (had with a tomato tart, so very nice) and a feint touch of leather. Beautifully integrated. Very nice! (1741 views) | | Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 11/24/2020: Resolving a little bit. That has some gumption and power. (2540 views) | | Tasted by jps3@columbia.edu on 4/19/2020 & rated 90 points: Still could use a little more time in the bottle but after a few hours of air it's a rich wine with great tannic backbone. (1514 views) | | Tasted by Neecies on 1/28/2020: Margot's. Uncorked four hours before dinner. Classic Italian sangiovese nose of red fruit, raisins and tomato. Mouthfilling. Margot said it reminded her of her Jewish mother's Kugl. More rounded and elegant for current drinking than the '16 Roncicone poured next to it in a good way. Drink over the next 3-5 years. (3019 views) | | Tasted by Pote87 on 1/24/2020 & rated 90 points: Medium body, dry wine. Smooth tannins and good fruit flavor. High alcohol. (2429 views) | | Tasted by VinNoobie on 9/17/2019 & rated 93 points: Nose: Concord grape, strawberries Taste: medium bodied, medium acidity, smooth integrated tannins, tart cherry, tart berries, bicycle tire long finish (2186 views) | | Tasted by Marquis du Vin on 6/23/2019 & rated 94 points: Showing better than the last bottle... Sour cherry, earthy accents, silky texture with a clean as stainless steel finish! Medium body, but good stuffing despite that... I suspect this will age brilliantly too! Lovely wine, not dry at all! Perfect summer red! Gran Selezione is the way to go for Chianti as it gives great structure, character and juice to these typically dry wines... This can be had at a bargain too $35 if you can find them! That's an obscene ideal for a wine that should sell for much much more. Gotta love the art work too! At first glance it appears to be Dante's Inferno! But it's really a depiction of the very old town where this beauty is from... (2838 views) | | Tasted by dal1951 on 5/10/2019 & rated 91 points: Plenty of balance to this wine. Needed some air as the tannins are still very young. This wine could use another 5 years. Bright stone fruit on this wine. This will mature to a very enjoyable well balanced wine. (1811 views) | | Tasted by Lyubomir Lefterov on 4/16/2019 & rated 90 points: Tones of red fruit, with lifted midpalate, yet elegant body, but too much fruit for me at present, may be after 3-4 years for me. (1835 views) |

| Barone Ricasoli Producer website
Barone Ricasoli is the oldest winery in Italy, producing wine at the estate since 1141. The current owner, Barone Francesco Ricasoli, is the 32nd generation Baron of the family. Geremia and Ridolfo were the original Ricasolis, but it was in the year 1000 that the Ricasoli family was granted the highest degree of power over their feudal land, the title of "Barone" decreed directly from the King. This title signified full autonomy over their lands and those who inhabited them. After centuries of defending their land and people, the Ricasoli family was the first to utilize their farmland and vineyards, producing and selling their best wine production. It has been documented from as early as the 16th century that Brolio had exported wine to Amsterdam and England and from the beginning of the 20th century, Brolio wine had become renowned and exported all over the world.
Producer Location (Google Maps)SangioveseSANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se"). Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]
Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.Italy Italian Wines (ItalianMade.com, The Italian Trade Commission) | Italian Wine Guide on the WineDoctorTuscany Tuscany (ItalianMade.com) | TuscanytChianti Consorzio Vino Chianti | Chianti (wikipedia) |
