Tasted by BBinSC on 8/22/2020 & rated 93 points: 93-95: Wow - been a while since I've had a Garden, and this Sophie's is it for us. Definitely would describe as joyful, bright, and rich. Some notes of eucalyptus on the nose, silky, chocolaty palate. Long finish. Really beautiful. (978 views)
Tasted by redz on 5/20/2018 & rated 91 points: Needed a couple hours decant, drinking well (1466 views)
Tasted by Simonfenton1@btinternet.com on 4/18/2017 & rated 92 points: Still punchy Shiraz and v nice flavours but getting a little old in my opinion (2093 views)
Tasted by Simonfenton1@btinternet.com on 2/24/2017 & rated 92 points: Very strong and punchy wine. So much of that peppery liquorice flavour etc you'd expect from a wine that's 16.5%!!!I would say needs to be drunk quite soon really. (1747 views)
Tasted by Primordialsoup on 2/2/2014 & rated 93 points: Even better than bottle a few years ago. Drinking very well now so why wait? (3491 views)
Tasted by SEP on 9/1/2012 & rated 91 points: Lots of fruit, but not over the top, medium to full bodied, improved after opening up for a while. Great bottle. (3585 views)
Tasted by timdrex on 5/6/2012 & rated 92 points: Upon opening, this wine was a bit overpowering with fruit and alcohol, but after 30 minutes, it settled down and became very graceful--more than I would expect for an Aussie Shiraz. (3257 views)
Tasted by yipen on 4/15/2012 & rated 90 points: Fruit bomb great to pair with a burger (3009 views)
Tasted by timdrex on 2/19/2012 & rated 90 points: Light tannins, and a little lighter on the big fruit than I remember from the last bottle. Nice acidity. (2962 views)
Tasted by wineshaman on 10/29/2011 & rated 90 points: Big fruit, big wine, very ripe, extracted, blackberries, spice and vanilla, drinking well now! (2097 views)
Tasted by Primordialsoup on 9/17/2011 & rated 92 points: Liking this: Cedar, spice, a bit of beef, blackberries, charcoal, and a round finish with some alcohol (is that a drop of Southern Comfort there?) and minimal but grippy tannins that complement the chewy texture in this handsome wine. Good stuff if you like the style. I do. (1744 views)
Tasted by Paul_Stagg on 6/19/2011 & rated 85 points: Very dark color. Inky. Nose is strawberry and grape jam, then some dust. The nose makes me think big Aussie Shiraz, which is not a good thing for my palate.

On the palate is big bright red fruit, pepper, anise, some minerals. More complex than I thought it might be (but as complex as the price tag would suggest). Some acid, tannins are there but not overpowering. Hot on the finish. Not as hefty as I thought it would be. Ended up better than the nose would indicate. Take my notes with a grain of salt, as this is not my favorite style of wine, but it's a pretty good example. Decanting will help, and I plan to do so before having the rest of it with steak. Good, not great. A hint more smoothness and weight would have helped, and I think some air might add that dimension.

3/5 (1894 views)
Tasted by raydawgone on 2/25/2011 & rated 95 points: Cedar and red brick on nose. Ripe, volumtuous black fruit. Tannins and acidity in prime. Long, peppery finish. Two Hands continues to produce some of the finest juice coming out of Aust. today. (2174 views)
Tasted by MR.CG on 12/29/2010: DID A BLIND TASTING SAMANTHA, SOPHIE, BELLA. BELLA WON (2454 views)
Tasted by mariolanza on 11/27/2010 & rated 88 points: Drank over 2 days. Quite a boisterous palate. Very Jammy and plummy. Strong alcohol level prevalent, probably would improve over the next 5 years. (2437 views)
Tasted by jorgerunfast on 8/27/2010 & rated 89 points: Pretty typical Oz shiraz. People used adjectives such as "frosting", "dessert wine", "caramel", "sweet chocolate", etc. Well made wine, but only serves a very specific purpose - although it is a crowd-pleaser (2784 views)
Tasted by Minkey on 7/16/2010 & rated 92 points: Very intense spicy nose with strawberries but also a slight touch of minerals. The palate is very fruit forward and shows red berries with medium tannins and a peppery long finish. Tannins should balance out over time and this wine should mature well in a few years. (2614 views)
Tasted by timdrex on 5/16/2010 & rated 90 points: Heavy fruit and pepper. Great if you like the "in your face" style. I think all that power strips the wine of the finesse that might lie underneath. (2602 views)
Tasted by Sourdough on 4/19/2010 & rated 94 points: Absolutely lovely. Modest fruit, dry, wonderful! (1117 views)
Tasted by jamieirving on 5/9/2009 & rated 89 points: Decanter New World Fine Wine Encounter (The Royal Lancaster Hotel, London W2): More savoury than some of the other garden series, this wine shows capsicum and tobacco characters on the nose. The palate shows concentrated fruit, earth and liquorice. Low oak input. Slightly tannic on the finish. (3820 views)
Tasted by pdrago on 2/6/2009 & rated 86 points: Holy Fruit Bomb. This bottle was almost like berry flavored syrup. The color looked unnatural and enhanced. I have had the 2005 Bella's Garden from Two Hands and that had much more finess and elegance than this imo. This wine had a very powerful, fruit and candy dominated nose. It was captivating if not pungent. I really enjoyed the first glass (I like the fruit forward stuff from time to time) but after that it became too 1 dimensional and monotonous. Some may love this and others will hate it. If you do not like the fruit forward Aussie Shiraz style then do not purchase this wine. If you do like them then you will most likely love it. It is a quality wine from a quality producer, but for my money I will spend $60 differently. (2886 views)
Tasted by air guitar & pinot noir on 2/5/2009 & rated 91 points: Almost black in color with a purple rim. Spice and mint on the nose. Dense darke cherry, plum, mineral falvors with a touch of earth. Broad and generous but not overbearing. Powerful, intense wine, rich and full-bodied. (2225 views)
Tasted by mmurry on 5/31/2008 & rated 89 points: Staff Favorites/Sale Wines (Farpointe Cellar): The nose had nice plum and cherry, plus earth and stone. The palate was too hot, but it did have plum, earth, and a little spice. (3490 views)
Tasted by Guppies on 4/1/2008 & rated 93 points: Deep dark ruby red, lots of berries, especially cherry and boysenberry with a nice oak balance. (3744 views)
Tasted by grobstein on 1/21/2008: opened it, tasted it, put in the decanter, came back in 45 mins and it was gone. what i had was great. i guess everyone else at the party that is was pretty good too. a 90some point wine for sure. (3199 views)

Two Hands

Producer website

U.S. Importer (Addt'l Info)

The 'Two Hands' are Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz who formed the company in 1999 with the clear objective of making the best possible Shiraz-based wines from prized Shiraz producing regions within Australia. In 2000 they started with just 17 tonnes of fruit from the McLaren Vale and Padthaway wine regions, and the heart of the operation is based in the Barossa Valley. Since the winery opened, Two Hands sucess has gone from strength to strength with numerous accolades defining the culture of the organization. Two Hands Wines were listed in the Wine Spectator Top 100 for the last five years with two listings in the top 10, and the Ares was voted one of the 25 Benchmark Wines of Australia.
