Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 87.8 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 4 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by John from GR on 3/31/2020 & rated 88 points: I would have been embarrassed if this had been in a blind tasting. It screened “Burgundy” to me (entry level Cote du Beaune). I was surprised at the complexity. Excellent QPR... I will buy more. (299 views)
Tasted by eboracum on 7/8/2019 & rated 88 points: Another attractive vintage from Folle Noire with the usual nicely perfumed cherry tinged fruit and moreish bitterness on the finish. Perhaps fresher but slightly less full than the 2015. Good. (427 views)
Tasted by dclaggett on 12/28/2018 & rated 88 points: From iron rich soils of Fronton, this soft and juicy example of Négrette varietal works well with food and is interesting enough to drink on its own. Dark bluish magenta in glass, flowers, licorice root and blueberries on nose, berries, spice, root beer on palate. Med mouthfeel. Lighter style, nice wine. (532 views)

Negrette

Negrette is a varietal originally planted just to the side of Toulouse by settlers from Cyprus during the Crusades. It is one of the oldest varietals in the world and it has light to medium bodied style and soaring perfume of spice and violets.

Fronton

Vins de Fronton (Official Site)

Fronton is an appellation in southwest France for rustic red wines (around 85 percent of output) plus rosé. The vineyard area lies around the town of the same name, just to the north of Toulouse.

At least 50 percent of any Fronton vineyard must be planted with the local grape variety Negrette. It is almost exclusive to this part of France and said to have been brought here by the Knights Templar returning from the Crusades. The variety must account for at least 40 percent of the blend of any wine.
--
All wines from this Appellation should be entered with the CellarTracker Appellation "Fronton" irrespective of whether they are from an older vintage which used the "Côtes du Frontonnais" labeling.
--
From 1975 to Sept 2005, this appellation was officially known as "Côtes du Frontonnais." Fronton has always been the colloquial name for this Appellation. The creation of AOC Fronton is legally considered to supplant the Côtes du Frontonnais and usage in CellarTracker reflects that.
