Community Tasting Notes (average 88.1 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 15 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by EdKz@comcast.net on 5/28/2022 & rated 85 points: ruby, medium/full body, aromas of dark red fruits and pencil lead, opened oaky with high acid; mild dark red/black fruits; disjointed 84 points that resolved a bit over two hours; second night, settled 86 points (619 views)
Tasted by dmventure on 4/3/2021 & rated 91 points: Had this wine with a leg of lamb. It was a perfect pairing. I'm not a wine expert, but when it tastes good and is smooth. I am a happy camper. I would purchase this again. (1272 views)
Tasted by Coachron13 on 9/2/2020 & rated 88 points: Too oaky for my tastes. Drank over two nights but really didn’t change. Has some good qualities too, but the oak is what stands out. (1291 views)
Tasted by Niecell on 10/27/2019: Woody, Anne liked (1898 views)
Tasted by aerosol on 8/5/2019 & rated 88 points: Nose had a hint of vanilla and oak. The first night, it had more body and structure and was a better than adequate merlot that is full of green notes with a hint of tomato in the finish. It was darker and more full bodied the first night so if you open a bottle, be committed to drinking it all on the first night. (1969 views)
Tasted by chanote44 on 7/12/2019 & rated 87 points: Heavy on American Oak. Not my thing. (1531 views)
Tasted by kgmoose2@gmail.com on 5/2/2019 & rated 90 points: Delicious, full bodied Merlot got better in the glass (1371 views)

Merlot

Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
