Tasted by IlliniWine on 4/26/2024 & rated 88 points: An enjoyable wine but for the price, this doesn't deliver anything special. I hate to compare wines but I've only had SO Napa Valley in the past and this doesn't measure up. Is it just a subpar vintage? Is the Alexander Valley fruit not as distinctive as the Napa?  Tasted by MypalAL on 11/30/2023 & rated 90 points: Great cab, but not great QPR. Very balanced, some subtle textures. (2326 views)
Tasted by Rossdhu House on 6/20/2023 & rated 85 points: Second bottle. Worse than last year. Overpowering taste of alcohol, closed, even after a decant. Day 2 was marginally better but nothing like classic Silver Oak. My concern is that the floral and typical notes of this varietal were also muted or not present. I’m hard-pressed to believe the wine will improve with time. When the alcohol fades, we may be left with nothing.

I’m curious as to others, who think it is, classic Silver Oak, I think Justin Meyer wouldn’t be o pressed one little bit. Thoughts? (3833 views)
Tasted by Wedge on 5/25/2023 & rated 89 points: Wish, wish, wish I could score higher. Astringent as of this 2023 drinking and the lush fruit and distinct oak are buried. (3698 views)
Tasted by Booger’s Wine on 5/21/2023 & rated 88 points: It was decent but not up to the Silver Oak’s I’ve had in the past It would be great for a $35 bottle of wine. (3662 views)
Tasted by Diveusn on 4/15/2023 & rated 90 points: Not worth what it costs (3617 views)
Tasted by "Rhône Rider" on 3/18/2023 & rated 93 points: Vanilje, solbær, aske, moreller, lakris. Konsentrert, solmoden frukt. Intens, konsentrert, men litt uforløst. Svært lang. 93 (3088 views)
Tasted by Bill_Raleigh on 12/26/2022 & rated 82 points: Decanted for several hours and paired with prime rib roast. Overall, fairly disappointing. Did not live up to other Silver Oak vintages. Not horrible at all, but lacking in bold fruit taste. Better with food than to drink by itself (2879 views)

Tasted by dino_mike on 10/5/2022 & rated 91 points: Still a pleasure to drink this old. Its quite soft, medium bodied but really tasty. The big oak is well integrated, tannins are gone but nice medium fruit and mint. Drink now (3550 views)
Tasted by Poisey on 9/30/2022 & rated 93 points: Robust and concentrated with cassis, herbs and tart red berry fruit. Smooth with a round finish. Dark fruit filled vibrant finish with long lingering concentrated tannin. The acidity is amazing in this cab, its just right, balancing off the fruit and tannin. Long potential cellaring. This will improve. Drink 2025-2034. (3256 views)
Tasted by wino121 on 9/21/2022 & rated 89 points: Decanted, this seemed backwards to me from the last few bottles, one dimensional at this point.
Very distinct flora notes on the nose with awkward oak leaning tannin’s. In a transitional state?
Hold or drink you call it, although cellaring won’t hurt this one. (3360 views)

Perfumed, concentrated black fruits, lots of sweet oak and sweet spice, so enticing on the nose, one can smell this all day, on the palate it's round with silky smooth tannin, that 14% alcohol feels like nothing. Complex, intense, balanced, a benchmark of well-made Californian wine. Very enjoyable now, but can easily age for another decade. (2849 views)

Tasted by Rossdhu House on 4/15/2022 & rated 88 points: It was meh. Tanins weee almost gone, soft, not what I’m used to from Silver Oak. (3616 views)
Tasted by Mlupton26 on 3/4/2022 & rated 88 points: Good, not nearly as good as the napa. Had after a paso red blend which may have been a mistake given the sweetness of that. Overall very good. Had at hoof and vine in Sandy UT (3745 views)
Tasted by buymoreredsdrinkmorewhites on 3/4/2022: Decanted 3 hours prior and re-bottled and brought to dinner. Very perfumed on the nose, nice deep magenta color. On the palate
very sublime muted notes with some green pepper notes. All enjoyed the wine with a very smooth finish but wine seemed to be one dimensional and lacking any fruit. For the money would expect more. (3575 views)

Tasted by mats13 on 1/17/2022 & rated 93 points: Decent with a lot of air. I think the issue with the wine is not the quality but with price point - there is a lot of serious competition in the $65-$85 range. That aside, this was aromatic and displayed solid cab characteristics. Controlled oak, even somewhat restrained. Might have ben the vintage as well? (3821 views)
Tasted by Gjpass on 1/2/2022 & rated 88 points: - Brick color - Not very impressive (3104 views)
Tasted by Wedge on 12/27/2021 & rated 89 points: After consuming half a dozen bottles, I purchased another case after enjoying it so much. However, I’ve been very disappointed as well as my guests tasting with me in this second case. Very shallow and light without the characteristic oak and tannins that blend for super be nose and taste. Have opened and let breathe for over an hour and still no difference. I’m going to let it age in the bottle for five years before I drink more. (2875 views)

Tasted by La Cave d'Argent on 12/5/2021 & rated 91 points: Silver Oak's 2016 Alexander Valley bottling is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Merlot, with the balance comprised of Petit Verdot and Malbec. Tasted at the winery's Alexander Valley facility, it is a deep ruby wine that serves up an aromatic profile of cassis, kirsch, baking spices, eucalyptus and mint. Full-bodied, fresh and with nicely integrated alcohol, it delivers flavors in line with the nose and stays solid on the mid-palate. The fine-grained tannins and American oak are assimilating well at this early stage, making for a wine that is already quite drinkable. Solid on the mid-palate and medium-to-long on the back end, this is a good expression of Silver Oak's Alexander Valley style. Enjoy it throughout the decade. Drink now-2030. (3146 views)
Tasted by krish.k.vadivale@gmail.com on 11/19/2021 & rated 91 points: I could smell the vanilla and spice on the nose as soon as this wine was poured into my glass; in time, red and dark fruit also presented on the nose. On the palette, red and dark fruits, more vanilla and spice, and an almost tobacco like quality came through on the finish. I thought this wine was very good. The texture was silky - but could've benefited from more weight.

I know others have said the nose on this wine is astringent - I had the complete opposite experience. My wine was served to me at a wine club, pulled right out of a temperature controlled cellar held at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. No decanting was done. (2924 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
