It was still fantastic, but definitely time to drink. Had it with burgers...and with or without the food it was delicious. But tannins are definitely gone. (183 views) | | Tasted by Rbtrage on 3/29/2023 & rated 90 points: Good but not great. Probably right at the end of its drinking window. (212 views) | | Tasted by FullPolicyLimits on 3/5/2017 & rated 90 points: Decanted for about an hour. Nose of dried cherry and raspberry. Color still great considering bottle age. Sediment on cork, light sediment in bottle. Palate definitely shows resolved tannins with a little gritty on the mid palate of coffee and dried red fruits. Finishes a little vegetal. Still had some life, left but definitely running out of gas. Still very drinkable. (1462 views) | | Tasted by Kristinescellar on 11/30/2013 & rated 70 points: Wine had spoiled slightly I believe. Had a bit of an after taste (2450 views) | | Tasted by Old Course 72 on 1/12/2013 & rated 92 points: Lush, rich, opulent, fruit forward, but light body and finish, great cab franc (2900 views) | | Tasted by team-blackburn on 9/8/2012 & rated 93 points: PNP, no decant necessary this is ready right out of the bottle. Soft lush fruit with a little smoked meat, no tannins left drink up!!!! (2961 views) | | Tasted by Old Course 72 on 4/1/2012 & rated 91 points: A bit more refined with fruit more balanced. Still lovely nose, full red berry upfront flavor with attractive finish. (3125 views) | | Tasted by tfharris on 12/17/2011 & rated 91 points: Smooth, complex. Has not shown it's age for being in the bottle 9 years. Would have been good for a couple of more years. Very good bottle of wine. (2466 views) | | Tasted by amgryger on 11/14/2011: NY/NJ Offline at Ciano (Ciano, NYC): Dark fruit, blueberry, vanilla and oak notes on the nose. Ripe, round fruit on the palate. Full-bodied with medium acid, medium high tannin, and a long finish. (2360 views) | | Tasted by Old Course 72 on 8/4/2011 & rated 92 points: Continues the impress. Full mouth filling flavors, rich fruit and long finish. (1297 views) | | Tasted by JOEinLA on 11/25/2010 & rated 93 points: Thanksgiving Dinner and up against an 89 Cheval Blanc. The Cheval was the sentimental fav but fell short. After a 2 hr decant, The Chappellet had a wonderful bell pepper, cranberry but dark nose and a deep crimson red color. Balanced, full body, great mouth feel of deep red berries, classic Franc vegetable hints and very flavorful. Everyone agreed that it was delicious and went well w Turkey. Could have used another year or two in the cellar to get even better. Seeking out the 07 tomorrow... (1948 views) | | Tasted by Old Course 72 on 6/8/2010 & rated 91 points: Aroma that immediately promises more and does not disapppoint. Tastes that are very fulll upfront but not overpowering - Not sure which particular element dominates but a lasting imprsssion is the spiciness of the finish and the smile that crtossed my face as other people share the the experience. . (1591 views) | | Tasted by J @ y H @ c k on 12/31/2009 & rated 91 points: I bought this bottle when Dan Posner moved his shop from Rye to North White Plains and he found it, badly cracked lip and pitted glass on the bottle, buried in the basement. My first Chappellet and he offered it cheap. Threw it in my cellar and decided to open it with cheese, pate, baguette and "There Will Be Blood" for New Year's Eve. Popped and poured. The color was about as dark as wine can get. Impenetrable black with just a hint of red color around the edges. The nose was spicy and the palate was roast meat, smokiness and herbs with a bit of pepper and perhaps some cedar. This was not a fruit driven wine for me. It had a very strong and meaty mouth feel. The finish was moderate. My wife felt the alcohol went to her head, and it was 15%, but I did not find it noticeable. (1978 views) | | Tasted by cvvhrn on 11/20/2007: Defered a rating as I have a cold comming on and my nose and taste buds are a bit off. However, it was an excellent CF. Hints of cinnamon and dark fruit on the palate with a decent finish. (2574 views) | | Tasted by Pablo T on 11/17/2007 & rated 93 points: My first experience with pure cab franc. It was really delicious - not very fruit forward, but it had really good depth and was exceptionally smooth. Flavors of coffee, chocolate, mint, and earth. I wish I had a few more bottles. (2746 views) | | Tasted by ivsimler on 3/18/2006 & rated 95 points: This wine rocks my world. On first opening...its like a slightly-sugary raspberry jam aroma and taste...with just a bit of toast on the nose... After about an hour or so of drinking...you have the taste of coffee grounds... It was like walking into a Starbucks.... We enjoyed it with a marinated flank steak thrown on the grill and it matched perfectly.
This is a great wine that I feel deserves an extraordinary recommendation. (3196 views) |
| Chappellet Producer websiteCabernet Franc Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wines & Vines articleUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
