Community Tasting Notes (average 90.3 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 38 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by joraesque on 12/8/2023 & rated 90 points: So much better 24 hours later—unbelievable! It softened up revealing a rounder profile marked by dry cherries and bramble fruits. (479 views)
Tasted by ethanwade on 10/26/2023: Garnet color with a brick red rim. Nose has a lot of marasca cherry, some florals, thyme and warm spice. On the palate this has a lot of red and black cherry, kirsch, and mint. Medium+ acidity, medium body, tannins are well integrated on the palate right now but are very long and not yet fully integrated through the finish. A little rustic for Cavallotto but not surprising for the vintage (especially given that this 2017 clocks in at 14.5%). (489 views)
Tasted by Jmac56 on 6/20/2023 & rated 92 points: Moderate floral anise nose. Medium to full bodied, well balanced, jammy and chalky with nice fruit and acid. (748 views)
A carafer impérativement. (733 views)
Tasted by joraesque on 2/19/2023 & rated 89 points: Needs some venison… (730 views)
Tasted by Jeanda on 1/3/2023 & rated 91 points: Grande intensité aromatique sur la rose et les fruits rouges. Bouche bien équilibrée avec une légère sucrosité. Vaut bien des barolos....À maturité. (763 views)
Tasted by Wine celler on 9/17/2022 & rated 90 points: Deilig nebbe (766 views)
Tasted by Hschmitz on 7/2/2022 & rated 90 points: fyldig chanti (770 views)
Tasted by Axone on 4/18/2022: Très acide à l'ouverture, presque imbuvable.
rebouché et dégusté quelques jours plus tard, le vin était correct mais toujours marqué par un excès d'acidité. (710 views)
Tasted by MaMinator on 12/23/2021 & rated 92 points: Anis, Cherry and for me the first time i find a hint of rose that should come with nebbiolo, candy when opening up.

Light body, very dry, still quite tight tannis, high acidity, leather, a herbal tone of the very last finish. Perhaps hibiscus?

Ok to drink now and can take a couple more years. I rarely say this but this wine should definitely be decanted properly to let the acidity give way. (970 views)
Tasted by kstoddard on 7/31/2021: Tannic (1402 views)
Tasted by Jmac56 on 3/31/2021 & rated 89 points: Acidic nose. Still tannic and acidic. Went well with tomato sauce. (1434 views)
(1624 views)
Tasted by deschnoll on 12/16/2020 & rated 90 points: Really nice, everything you would expect from a Nebbiolo, floral nose (roses), beautiful color, nice acidity and tannins. Not at integrated or refined as a typical Barbaresco/Barolo, but great at the price point. (1506 views)
Tasted by despore on 12/16/2020 & rated 90 points: Excellent QPR, love this Lange Nebbilio. (1730 views)
Tasted by idalseg@gmail.com on 12/6/2020: Farge: Klar rubinrød, liten kant som heller mot murstein.
Lukt: ren, medium intensitet, røde bør, ikke fat, mørke bær, jordlig preg, krydret.
Smak: tørr, høy syre, tannin M+ (tørre tanniner). Kirsebær sorte, bjørnebær, modne bær.
Fylde M
Kompleksitet M+
Meget god. Bør lagres noen år. (1373 views)
Tasted by HEBRO 10 on 8/3/2020 & rated 90 points: Sweet. Depth. (1929 views)
Tasted by Mot and Rob on 7/22/2020 & rated 91 points: Deep ruby color in the glass. The nose is spice forward with a bit of smokiness and plumb. In the mouth it is bright, but opens up to plumb, leather, and smoke that is absolutely stunning - drank over two nights, and was still developing day two.
Give this one a bit of a decent - maybe an hour or two? It started a touch tight but was singing shortly thereafter. Will also do with some time in the cellar, but open if you have multiples as it is still drinking well today. (1516 views)
Tasted by Jofauk on 4/4/2020 & rated 92 points: Stunning. (2182 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 1/16/2020: Flickinger Customer Appreciation Tasting (Casino Club - Chicago IL): Walk around tasting. Light red color with soft, fun red fruit aromas and faint spice. Palate is a bit of a punch on the mouth with tannins for now. (2964 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 11/28/2019: Piedmont II - better and learnings; 11/23/2019-11/29/2019 (Barolo, Alba, others): Again lots of fruit and darker fruits. It's also easy and drinking nicely although that drying tannin makes me wonder if a few more years would make it a touch better. It wants food. Some red style. A great bargain. (2517 views)
Tasted by retired_and_roving on 11/28/2019: Thanksgiving week in Piemonte; 11/22/2019-11/30/2019 (Milan, Barolo, Alba, Barbaresco): Tasted at the winery. From 15 year old vines. Spends 18 months in large oak barrels. Nose has tar and black pepper. More in the easy and early drinking style (warm vintage) red fruits, some of that tar but light and easy. (3129 views)

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
