This was my favorite of the vintage at release and this is the first bottle we have opened since. Coming along great and immediately get that classic smoky, meaty Syrah characteristic reminiscent of Northern Rhone. Good acidity, lighter tannin and body than I remember. Really enjoyed this vintage CJ since it wasn’t as “fruit forward” or “big” as other years. The decanting really let this open up and would say drink now if you enjoy more fruit forward vintages of CS but could easily go for 5-10 years. Savory, medium-bodied with nice balance and a sustained finish. Enjoyable now, but worth a hold. (565 views) | | Tasted by Amerique on 6/5/2020 & rated 95 points: More accessible, still huge blackberry fruit with black olive flavors, terrific wine! (604 views) | | Tasted by shilohmedia on 1/31/2019: Terrible (969 views) | | Tasted by Amerique on 12/25/2018 & rated 94 points: Rich, huge, gigantic blackberry fruit, very focused and intense, took at least 2 hours to open up, needs many years to soften (755 views) | | Tasted by MAXIMUM SATISFACTION on 3/8/2018 & rated 90 points: Nose is dominated by tart red fruit, smoke, and earth/barnyard notes. Astringency carries through to the palate with tart acidic red fruit front and center. Warm spices, vanilla extract, stewed plums, and roasted beef accompany. Powerful extraction that remains fresh, light, and in balance. I'd recommend holding but if you drink decant for 2-3 hours for the best results. (995 views) |

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent. USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Central Coasthttp://www.ccwinegrowers.org/links.html
